Seven arrested in connection with r**e and murder of two minor girls in Assam

Kokrajhar district Superintendent of Police (SP) Thube Prateek Kumar told India Today TV that the seven people have confessed to ra**ng and killing the two tribal girls.

Police arrested seven people for their involvement in the r**e and murder of two teenage tribal girls in Assam’s Kokrajhar district.

The accused, aged between 19 to 27, were identified as Muzammil Sheikh, Nazibul Sheikh, Farouk Rahman, Hanif Sheikh, Jahanur Islam, Md. Atab Ali and Sankarde Barman.

Kokrajhar district Superintendent of Police (SP) Thube Prateek Kumar told India Today TV that the three prime accused among the seven arrested have confessed to ra**ng and killing the two tribal girls.

The two minor girls, aged 14 and 16, were found hanging from a tree in a village under the Kokrajhar police station on June 11. Police had confirmed that they were r**ed and killed.

“Muzammil Sheikh, Nazibul Sheikh and Farouk Rahman are the main accused and they have confessed to the crime. Four other persons were also involved in the incident,” Thube Prateek Kumar said.

RAIPUR: Two months after a minor girl killed herself after being gang-r**ed by seven men at a wedding in Kondagaon district of Chhattisgarh, her father tried to kill himself on Tuesday, allegedly because he couldn’t get an FIR registered to seek justice for her.
He survived, and it spurred police into taking action in the case.

National Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson Yashwant Jain has written to the Kondagaon SP, seeking action against the local police inspector for not registering an FIR earlier. The commission has asked for a detailed investigation report within 10 days.
While police say they were not informed about the gangr**e earlier, sources in Kondagaon say local police had promised her father that they would take action, but did nothing.
The tragic chain of circumstances reveals how little people know of police procedures and how the legal system works. The father attempted su***de because he believed a case couldn’t be registered since two months have passed and his child is dead, say sources.
