After over 6 years of service, the "Rochester Area Railroads" feed, hosted by myself, has been decommissioned as of 1pm today 5/12/2022.

HOWEVER, this is not the end of rail scanners in the Rochester Area. Adam Stoneham has started a new feed, currently called "CSX Railroad Rochester to Buffalo" (subject to upcoming name change) that provides extended railroad radio coverage of the entire Rochester area that is far better than anything I could ever get! It is the replacement for my scanner feed. LISTEN TO THE SCANNER HERE: https://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/36793

Adam also provides a host of other rail scanners that covers CSX and adjoining lines from Albany to the western NY-PA state line. I will provide more information and links in the near future. This page will continue to provide updates on Adam's feeds going forward.

I had a lot of fun hosting and improving this feed over the years. I hope it provided a useful aid for understanding real-time rail operations around the Rochester Area! As I have moved down Maryland, it is now time to explore starting up a rail scanner at my new home.

Enjoy the improved scanners!

**Update on complaints regarding scanner feed connectivity Issues***

Broadcastify is experiencing some issues relating to their advertisement server that is active when listening to the stream as a free listener. This appears to have caused many free listeners to be unable to connect to my stream and many other Broadcastify streams around the nation. Unfortunately, this issue is nothing I nor any other feed host can fix ourselves. It is all up to the Broadcastify administration to sort out these issues. Please take any complaints/issues you have up with them directly.

I have checked all the components I can control (the radio, computer, and streaming software) and all appears to be sending audio to Broadcastify servers as expected. The issue does not appear to affect those with a Broadcastify/RadioReference premium membership.

Broadcastify has not addressed the issue publicly at this time.

Downloading the Scanner Radio app (available on Android & Apple devices) appears to be a potential workaround currently.

The Fairport Train Viewing Platfrom Scanner is down until further notice. It appears that the power was shut off at the breaker and never restored. I have contracted the Village of Fairport regarding the outage.

Updates to follow.

Hi all! This past weekend, our neighboring rail feed, now known as CSX Rochester Sub - Wayneport to Syracuse, moved locations to a commercial communications tower out in Savannah, NY. This change resulted in a huge improvement in the feeds coverage range. So far it has easily covered from QC367 (Rochester) to QC280 (Dewitt) on both the Road and Dispatcher channels. This has been thanks to the dedicated efforts of the radio feeds owner, Adam Stoneham, to build out a rail feed network that one day may cover the entire CSX mainline in Western NY. This would provide an unprecedented amount of coverage range for railfans to utilize. To help make this goal a reality, Adam has started a GoFundMe page to help maintain and build out his railroad scanner endeavors along with his many other feeds, ranging from Weather to public safety and air traffic! Here is a link to the GoFundMe page to help support Adam: https://gofund.me/5be520dd

With this improved radio scanner covering the majority of the territory my scanner feed has covered, it has rendered it mostly a duplicate to Adam's. That being said, it is a bittersweet moment to say that I will eventually be decommissioning the Rochester Rail Radio Broadcastify scanner in the near future to avoid this duplication. I encourage you to support the CSX Rochester Sub - Wayneport to Syracuse scanner going forward to make it the best rail scanner around! (I know I will be!) I really have enjoyed providing a feed to all you listeners since October 2016 and watching my knowledge of radio communications grow (and turn into my career) as a result. But now is the time to give way to make room for even better rail feeds for you all!

For the time being, Rochester Rail Radio will remain live on broadcastify.com for the foreseeable future. With my life transitioning down to Maryland for work, upon decommissioning Rochester Rail Radio, I plan to move the equipment to MD to start a new rail feed in the Baltimore-Washington Metro Area. I plan to keep the Fairport Train Viewing Platform scanner up and active, making any repairs and future upgrades in the future and beyond.

Stay tuned for future updates on the new and improved CSX Rochester Sub - Wayneport to Syracuse rail feed and the final updates for Rochester Rail Radio.

Thank you and Happy Listening!

FAIRPORT, N.Y. — A new train-watching platform has opened in this historic village east of Rochester in Upstate New York. Located at the junction of the CSX Rochester and West Shore Subdivisions, the three-track line sees 40-plus trains a day on the route linking the Midwest with the New England a...

Platform Scanner back online as of this morning 6/7/21

05/06/2021

The Fairport Train Viewing Platform Scanner will be down through Sunday for Canal Days live music events that are held at the platform pavilion.
The broadcastify.com scanner is NOT affected by this temporary outage.

07/05/2021

The Fairport Train Viewing Platform Scanner is back up and running thanks to the Fairport Electric.
It appears the timer that controls when the scanner turns on and off had become faulty due to a recent power outage. The battery backup was not sufficient enough and/or was not functioning properly to keep the real-time clock up to date. As a result, the scanner will be on 24/7 until the end of the month when the timer schedule can be reprogrammed.

01/05/2021

The Fairport Train Viewing Platform scanner appears to be down. Upon initial investigation (via the video live stream) , it appears that the automatic power switch that turns on and off the radio did not activate this morning around 6am. I will be in contact with the Village of Fairport to see if they can investigate on my behalf as I am not in the area. (This will not happen until Monday at the earliest). It may be until the end of the month until the issue can be resolved. The online Broadcastify scanner is NOT affected by this outage and is functioning normally.

VOLUNTEER NEEDED:
While I have not yet created a more formal posting, I will be actively seeking out a gracious volunteer in the Rochester area who would be willing to perform troubleshooting and upgrades to the Fairport scanner as they arise when I am not in the area.
As I finish college down in Maryland this month, I will be moving out of the Rochester area to pursue my new career and will not be able to get to Fairport as frequently if issues arise. If you are interested in helping keep the Fairport scanner active, please send a message to this page or to my personal account, Connor Short. I will be happy to discuss further details there.
Thank you all for your understanding and patience with these recent outages. I had not expected this many disruptions to arise with the scanner at the onset, but that's how we can learn better for the future! With your help, I hope we can keep the Fairport Scanner alive and well for railfans and visitors alike for years to come! --Connor Short

Scanner player IP changed on me suddenly. Will post and email out new one later this afternoon.

Currently working on implementing an archives feature on the scanner. Members will no be able to go back and listen to old transmissions if they so desire. The archiving software allows for no dead space inbetween transmissions allowing for easier access to finding particular transmissions. This will only be available in the external web player as I will not be able integrate it into the website.
