Brief note on investigations so far in cases under investigation at NCB
• NCB received official communication from Enforcement Directorate, in which there was various chats related to drugs consumption, procurement, usage and transportation. Taking cognizance of the matter, NCB conducted preliminary enquiry and launched investigation in this matter.
• Based on network analysis undertaken on technical level, the linkages were explored and one of the nodes of the network was busted on 27/28-08-2020 intervening night. A raid was conducted at Mumbai and two persons namely Abbas Lakhani and Karn Arora were arrested and seizure of bud (curated ma*****na) was affected from their possession. The detailed network analysis and in follow up investigation, uncovered the linkages of Abbas Lakhani with one Zaid Vilatra.
• After due procedure and taking evidence on record, Zaid was apprehended. During the search Indian currency (Rs 9,55,750/-) and foreign currency (US $ 2081, 180 British Pound, 15 Dirham) was recovered, regarding which Zaid disclosed as proceeds of drug peddling.
• Zaid disclosed that he runs an eatery shop at Bandra, which was not giving any pecuniary gains since lockdown. He also disclosed that he is into the drug peddling especially bud, through which he used to earn the substantial amount of money.
• Based on his interrogation, Basit Parihar r/o Bandra was made to join the investigation. It was learnt that linkages of Basit with the earlier registered i.e. based on preliminary enquiry on the details submitted by ED, were found and further matter is under investigation.
• Further Basit Parihar stated that he used to procure buds and w**d for his friend Showik Chakraborty.
• Showik was asked to join the investigation wherein her accepted that he used to procure w**d and buds through Basit Parihar and Kaizan Ebrahim and passed it over to his sister Rhea Chakravarty who further passed it to his friend Sushant Singh Rajput. Samuel Miranda and Dipesh Sawant used to collect the said contraband and provided it to Sushant Singh after making joints. Rhea Chakraborty was arrested after her voluntary statement.
• Meanwhile Kaizan was apprehended wherein he stated that he used to procure drugs from one Anuj Keshwani.
• Anuj Keshwani was apprehended from his resident at Bandra. During the search Charas – 585gm, G***a – 270.12 gm, THC – 3.6 gm, L*D – 0.62 gm were seized along with INR Rs. 1,85,200. He revealed the name of Karanjeet r/o Mumbai.
• In further course of investigation Karanjeet, Fernandis, Gupta, Aftaab Mohammad, Ankush and Sanket were apprehended and seizure of G***a – 500gm, Hash – 42gm, Hash – 4gm, G***a – 17gm was made. Indian Currency amounting to Rs.7,12,400 were also seized. One Mercedes M Class was also seized.
• While Rhea was arrested due to her linkages with the Drug Trafficking Network. Her statement was also recorded in Case Crime no. 15/2020, in which she dwelled into other aspects, where in violations of provisions of NDPS were noted.
• The digital forensics of seized communication devices led to some workable information which was verified subsequently.
• Jayanti Saha, Shruti Modi, Madhu Mantenna, Simone Khambatta were examined.
• Today, i.e 25/09/2020 Rakul Preet and Karishma had joined the investigation.
