Six months ago, my client was involved in an incident where he 'voluntarily caused hurt' to his own mother during a domestic argument. The police were called, leading to his arrest and subsequent charge under Section 323/326A of the Penal Code. Despite claiming trial, he remained in the Remand Center, as no family or friends were willing to post bail for him.
Earlier today, I met with my client in the holding cell just before his case was to be heard in court. With tears in his eyes, he informed me that he wished to plead guilty and mentioned that it was his 26th birthday. When he shared this, the other detainees in the cell cheered and wished him a 'Happy Birthday', creating a heartwarming moment.
When his case was called, I informed the judge that it was my client’s birthday and that he intended to plead guilty. In mitigation, I highlighted that his mother had forgiven him and had visited him at the Remand Center, and that he was deeply remorseful. After considering both sides of mitigating and aggravating factors, the judge sentenced my client to five months of imprisonment, counting from the date of his arrest, meaning my client will be released today!
