Sometimes it’s better to gain musical insight through description rather than song lists. I want to know what you want the music to feel like. That may be through describing a setting, or an experience you’ve had.

My favorite example from this year was, “ I want it to feel like I’m on a yacht in the Mediterranean, or at a hip restaurant eating overpriced appetizers”

Love those small intimate celebrations. Close down a restaurant, invite 60 of your closest people, and let me jam on them.

Guest count is meaningless. I’ve done weddings as small as 18 people, call it a glorified dinner party. The energy is the same as any large event, some might argue even better. Since those selected people are closest to you and are normally ready to rage.

The WHO is what matters most, not the how many.

dj x t-shirts. I can’t hop on the t-shirt at a wedding wave 🌊, just not for me. Some might argue it’s trendy with a suit. However, the moment the jacket comes off you’re now the most underdressed person in the room. For me, that’s not ok.

I put up a story recently which said that DJing a wedding for someone who works within the industry is a flex. Let me expound on this. 

Kelsey works for Boston Park Plaza as a Senior Catering Manager. In other words she oversees and coordinates weddings at the hotel in a position where she frequently works closely with vendors. 

Now most couples who are in the stages of wedding planning have to rely on referrals, references, reviews, social media, in their decision making process for their vendors. Not Kelsey, she had the unique opportunity to interview nearly every dj Boston has to offer. She can see how they perform, how they interact and work with clients and other vendors, all just by going to work. 

So when it came time to plan her own wedding she was able to enter her vendor search with far more data than most.

And even after all that intel, she still picked the crappiest dj in Boston. ☝🏼

I was on a Zoom with a couple recently and they asked if I take breaks, a valid question. To which I replied absolutely not. Personally, I get anxious when I leave my area at all…. It’s a control issue, that’s a conversation for another day.

But we aren’t like bands who need to go rest their little fingers for a bit. Once I start, I don’t stop.

With that being said, here is a photo of me taking a break.

The hotel pumps their signature scent throughout the space and it smells fantastic. My Langham crew told me what it was ~ (Ginger Flower Fragrance)

I’m telling you, stop by for a smell. Also, the wedding vibes are immaculate. 👌🏼

Let’s talk about Microsoft Excel, wait what?

Alison told me about this Excel sheet she had created during her vendor search in order to keep track and assist in the decision making process. Here are some of the metrics, they interviewed:

- 34 Photographers
- 13 Bands/Djs
- 14 Florists
- 12 Hair stylists
- 5 Makeup Artists

I totally appreciate this level of thoroughness. You have one shot to pick your vendor team, why settle for anything you feel unsure about. Props to Alison’s research to make the best calculated decision and then CTRL+ALT+Delete the rest.

Blessed to have Ed help me out. I don’t even like to call him an “assistant” because it devalues what he brings to the table.

To be honest, I don’t think I could work for me. When it comes to my brand I have almost unrealistic expectations of how I want things to sound, look, and feel at every event.

He deals with my crazy neurotic nature and hits the level of perfection we strive for week after week.
