I was on a Zoom with a couple recently and they asked if I take breaks, a valid question. To which I replied absolutely not. Personally, I get anxious when I leave my area at all…. It’s a control issue, that’s a conversation for another day.

But we aren’t like bands who need to go rest their little fingers for a bit. Once I start, I don’t stop.

The hotel pumps their signature scent throughout the space and it smells fantastic. My Langham crew told me what it was ~ (Ginger Flower Fragrance)

Let’s talk about Microsoft Excel, wait what?

Alison told me about this Excel sheet she had created during her vendor search in order to keep track and assist in the decision making process. Here are some of the metrics, they interviewed:

- 34 Photographers
- 13 Bands/Djs
- 14 Florists
- 12 Hair stylists
- 5 Makeup Artists

I totally appreciate this level of thoroughness. You have one shot to pick your vendor team, why settle for anything you feel unsure about. Props to Alison’s research to make the best calculated decision and then CTRL+ALT+Delete the rest.

Blessed to have Ed help me out. I don’t even like to call him an “assistant” because it devalues what he brings to the table.

To be honest, I don’t think I could work for me. When it comes to my brand I have almost unrealistic expectations of how I want things to sound, look, and feel at every event.

He deals with my crazy neurotic nature and hits the level of perfection we strive for week after week.

A new space for me | The Tower

Playing this venue made me think about questions couples should ask during their dj interview process.

At the Tower a wedding can look like this:

Ceremony in the 4th floor library.
Cocktail hour in the 1st floor lounge.
Dinner in the 2nd floor parlor.
Dancing in the 1st floor lounge.

I believe if you’re interviewing someone to DJ such an event you should know how they are going to accommodate the multi floor situation.

Honestly, it’s easy to just get “music” on every floor. What is more difficult are microphones, you need multiple on every floor. Ask how many they are providing in each setting, one isn’t enough. Trust me.

The final piece is optional for some, but essential for me. Is the music just going to be playlist based or will they have the ability to live mix on each level. Some might disagree with this part but I stand strong in my opinion. What if people start dancing during dinner? What you doing to do mix on your iPad or laptop? F that

All I’m saying is ask. See if they have a plan of how they are going to make it work. Don’t settle for “I got you”, demand the details.

(This wedding was actually one of the reasons why we developed that black rolling ceremony rig. It was the first time I used it ~ perfection 🤌🏻) •

This was my first wedding at the Harvard Club in Boston. Anthony, the groom, was explaining the venue to me over Zoom and said that it had “Adam’s Family Vibes”.

I felt that. The dark wood, gold sconces, a perfect moody scene for a snowy winter wedding.

I even wore a turtleneck to cover up the bolts sticking out the sides of my neck.

While most car manufacturers are decking their vehicles out with as many screens as possible, Bugatti takes a different approach. They design the interior of their cars with the least amount of screens as possible. They claim that screens can easily age a vehicle as technology is constantly evolving. Without screens their product remains timeless. This is such a boss move.

The “TV Style” DJ booth is certainly in full force in the wedding world. For those of you who are unaware, it’s some form of a dj booth built around a tv. While I can see the benefits of being able to customize clients names or initials on it, I just knew this wasn’t for me.

Meet the new fully custom booth in my rotation. I took the Bugatti approach and focused on shape, surface finish, and colors. More to come soon.

P.S. - TV booth people please don’t be upset. Although, if you are, just grab that remote and change the channel 📺 😋

At the end of a wedding last year an older guy came up to me as I was breaking down and told me that he wanted to let me know that the music sucked tonight. 

The ironic part is that I was just reflecting about how I thought this wedding was in my top 5 of the year. The energy was on point all night. The crowd, both young and old, were wild and danced the entire set.

I actually appreciate his comment. Keeps me on my toes.

This past November I had the opportunity to play at Shepherd’s Run in Rhode Island. This place has an old estate feel, but completely modernized. The pictured event space was actually a church at one point in time on the estate.

{Side Note}
Sometimes I post setup photos in DJ forums and get absolutely torched in the comments from other DJs about my setup looking like a church. I wanted to share a few of them in this post 😗.

I honestly love a good roast. However, the only opinions that matter to me are those of my client family.

I usually don’t get nervous at weddings, however, this got my heart pumping because I really wanted to make sure that everything about this moment was perfectly executed.

I had the song playing off my main system. I also had it playing over a separate channel on my backup laptop. Finally, I had it prepared on an iPad connected directly to the speakers.

I did this because I still want to meet my couples in person if possible. In the case for Cate & Bill we couldn’t align our schedules for an in person meeting so we had only met virtually to this point.

I’ve tried to keep these captions unique and insightful as to what goes through my head being in the private event industry.

At Amanda & Michael’s Grandview wedding I arrived and setup everything in the location that’s designated for any entertainment.

I then stepped back and wasn’t happy with how it sounded, or looked. So we started over and reset the equipment to where I thought would be the optimal location.

I refuse to accept mediocre, it’s the best or nothing.

Also, shoutout to my assistant who put up with my craziness and had to move 354 lbs of speakers just because.
