How do startups prepare themselves for Funding?

Some Cameroonian startups have complained about not being able to secure funding to either expand or start making money. But how do you secure funding when you don't understand how your business works or explain it to a funder?

Startups like Traveler, and Giftedmom were able to raise funds because aside from having good products, the founders understood and knew how to explain what they were selling.

Some Hubs in the Silicon Mountain tech ecosystem are helping startups gain these skills by organising pitching sessions for them. These are the plans Mountain Hub has with its then-weekly event,

"From the start, Pitch Friday was a weekly event. After feedback from participants, we narrowed it down to a bi-weekly event, happening every 1st and last Fridays of the month. And some of our future plans are to make Pitch Friday a monthly event. This is because we want to make it bigger and better," Togue Armel, Community Manager at Hub.

Pitch Friday is an inclusive event which brings together entrepreneurs/founders/Innovators for a pitching session.

These innovators share their ideas with a diverse audience made of investors, entrepreneurs and consumers to enable them master the skills of sales and fine-tune their ideas/businesses/startups to a point of credible investment readiness.

Today's edition, the 25th had 3 founders who came to pitch their business/startup ideas.

How many sessions of Pitch Friday have you attended?

An Experienced Software Engineer and Cyber Security Expert sits on the Traditional Stool of
Buea, Chief Robert Esuka Endeley.

Did you know the paramount Chief of Buea, where the heart of Cameroon's tech ecosystem, Silicon Mountain is, is a tech Enthusiast and an expert in many IT fields?

After his first degree in Geology and an MSc. in Applied Geology at the University of Buea, he bagged a Masters in Software Engineering at the University of St. Thomas, the USA in 2005.

The Prince's knack to ascend the educational ladder saw him complete a PhD program at Capitol Technology University, USA, where he graduated as a Doctor of Science in Cyber security.

Eagle-eyed, the visionary leader's passion for IT management has made him gain expertise in different fields ranging from cyber security, Cyber Security, Banking, Software, Academic and Healthcare.

Prince Esuka Endeley has served in several companies and institutions as a web designer, lead software engineer, technical consultant, and Adjunct Professor of Computer Science where he not only lectures but also mentors students on career opportunities in IT.

Expert in his field, the paramount ruler of Buea is decked with several awards and recognitions ranging from The Atomic Playpen Award Developing Healthia consulting website in 2004, US Bank Recipient of Technology and Operations " Reach for the Stars" award, 2007 and a couple of academic merit awards in the science.

Following the death of the Paramount Chief of Buea, Prince Robert Esuka Endeley was on Monday, February 5, 2018, elected to mount the traditional stool that has been empty years after Chief Endeley IV joined his ancestors.

Prince Esuka Endeley is taking over the royal stool of his uncle, Chief Justice S.M.L. Endeley who joined his ancestors in the early hours of Thursday, July 7, 2015.

For the first time in the history of the Silicon Mountain community, members of the tech ecosystem hope to gain support for the Silicon Mountain agenda from royal authority.

Many are hoping for the tech ruler who understands the benefits that come with technology to promote technology innovation and adoption in the Southwest Region and bring about reforms in Cameroon's technology space.

A perfect example of how like minds produce magic is the collaboration between the Divisional Officer for Buea, Mr Abba Abdouraman and young startups who are tapping from his expertise.

Should the Silicon Mountain Tech Community also hope for future collaborations with the new Tech Ruler?

Let's know your thoughts.

4 tech hubs and 32 tech startups have received the fastest internet today March 15,2022 from Cameroon's Ministry of Post and Telecommunications.

This is in fulfilment of a promise made by P&T Minister, Mme Libom Likeng during the launching of the Cybersecurity campaign in Buea last year.

According to the P&T Technical Adviser, Dr Wilfred Mfuh, the internet is the fastest the tech community can ever get within the South West which comes with 2 packages:

The first package is a wireless package with a hundred and thirty-five gigabits of internet per month for 12 months, with a net value of about 450,000 per user.

The second package is a fibre to the office with six megabits of continuous and unlimited internet that comes with a phone line and a digital TV.

Silicon Mountaineers have attested to the growth this gesture will contribute to their tech communities, especially in skill acquisition.

Cameroon's President Paul Biya announces plans to create a National Employment Council to enable enterprises to leverage technology and boost productivity.

The Council is expected to create 600,000 jobs annually until 2030, which will help address a skills shortage within the country’s ICT and telecommunications industries.

To achieve this goal, the government plans to establish a fund to support young entrepreneurs and start-ups, particularly with their efforts to secure capital. Raising sufficient capital remains a major obstacle for SMEs in Cameroon.

Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

February 11 is always dedicated to honor women's significant achievements in science and place a much-needed focus on girls entering Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers.

To commemorate this day, tech ladies in the Silicon Mountain community have been preoccupied with educating and inspiring other girls and the Cameroonian population on the opportunities the tech field offers.

Via different media like TV, radio and social media, tech girls have shared their journey with audiences and have encouraged others to join them.

As we honour girls making a difference in the STEM field today, we also call on the public to give them the support they need and not underestimate their capabilities.
