I finally got to hear Omara “Bombino” Moctar perform live, at the Crystal Ballroom above the Somerville Theater. (It was a birthday surprise from Chris) This guy absolutely shredded the electric guitar, after first laying down a soulful acoustic set. His playing is routed in the Saharan blues of the Tuareg, or Kel Tamasheq nomadic tradition, while also clearly influenced by the playing of greats such as Carlos Santana, Jimi Hendrix and Chicago Bluesmen fusing traditional Berber rhythms with the energy of rock and roll. HIs website bio says that “While working as a herder in the desert near Tripoli, Libya, 16 year old Bombino spent many hours alone watching the animals and practicing his guitar” He is soft spoken and allowed himself a few words to us in French; he spoke with us via his guitars.
Chris and I had a great anniversary date night out at @theclubptown and were blown away by the vocals of Nadia Washington. Here is a brief clip of her joined on stage by Club owner Lea DeLaria @realleadelaria @nadiawashingtonmusic #provincetown #capecodmusic

Chris and I were in Brooklyn last weekend and discovered LunÀtico, aptly described by GrubStreet. as a “…a glowing fairy-tale jewel box filled with delights”. Sunday nights delight was Yacouba Sissoko, master kora player from Mali , and his 5 piece band. The diverse and chill crowd were there for the music, and the little place was rockin.
Yacouba is releasing a new album this week and I will spin some tracks on WOMR if I can score by Friday night at 5pm.
