From the beginning we have been about promoting prevention and encouraging a life not held back by preventable diseases. This is something we think the current system doesn’t do well. Do you think this video encapsulates that?

Why does prevention matter? We talk about preventing stroke often on this podcast but what does that look like?
-
In this episode, Dr. Trevick describes how often times he ends up making a new diagnosis of diabetes or hypertension in one of his post-stroke patients
-
Had those patients taken care of their likely long-standing chronic issues, they may have been able to prevent the stroke!
-
Why does this matter? While diabetes and hypertension may not be as devastating symptomatically (although diabetes can be TERRIBLE), a stroke has the potential to leave someone with large disabilities
-
Thus, it’s best to take care of these chronic conditions before having to see someone like Dr. Trevick!
Is staying strong on your New Years resolutions pure will power? Are you a bad person if you fail your resolutions? No!
-
A large contributor to success with goals is your social group! Finding a group that helps keep you accountable either through words or through accompanies actions will drastically increase your probability of continuing
-
Another idea is to get help - either hired or from a friend. Getting help is NOT weakness. Having someone there to help guide you through obstacles or be there as a resource as you go through them can help keep you from succumbing to an obstacle and keep you on the right path
-
What do you think of these tips? Comment below!
We often use the new year as an arbitrary time point to make changes. Unfortunately many aren’t able to sustain these changes and “fall off the bandwagon.”
-
As we’ve discussed in previous episodes, “failure” is to be expected. The important part is not waiting until the next new year to start again!
-
The key to long term success is getting started now through small changes. It’s much easier to sustain these changes rather than having an on-off switch.
-
Thus, if you’re trying to get healthier this year, don’t wait for some arbitrary time point but get started now with small changes!

In the beginning of our latest podcast with @jeubanksmd we talk about the issues facing the care of patients with spinal and back pain.
#
One of those problems? The lack of a standard and of collaboration. Instead, every individual unique clinician tries their hand at the problem and, if they fail, the patient goes to another clinician for the cycle to repeat itself. We have to do better!

🚨Controversial statement alert 🚨
According to healthcare CEO Jeb Dunkelberger, Medicare for All cannot work for multiple reasons
1. Elimination of the current reimbursement model would mean hospitals go out of business (in this clip)
2. Hospitals going out of business means mass unemployment as hospitals are the biggest employers in many parts of the country
3. Opening and closing political windows resulting in nothing done
Make sure to listen to the whole podcast for this full discussion, it’s a unique perspective from a healthcare CEO you don’t hear often!
