Live fast, work fast, shop fast; that can often be the cycle we're caught up in. That's why here at Veggie we're all about slowing down, especially when it comes to fashion. So, in light of this we're really excited to announce the launch of our first ethical style awards, where we'll be shining a light on the amazing brands championing sustainable fashion. From the most stylish vegetarian shoes a

nd bags, to must-have accessories and the hottest ethical brands on the high street. We've got some amazing judges to help us select the winning brands, but we need you, the Veggie readers, to help us choose your favourite eco store catering to the conscious consumer. It might seem like the words 'high street' and 'ethical' are juxtaposed, but it's cool to be kind and sustainability is in vogue right now. Not only will your vote decide the winning brand *cue smug face* but you'll also be entered into our amazing prize draw to be in with a chance of winning a luxury vegetarian spa break for two - win-win!

As the new season begins to unfold it's time to dig out your jumpers and cardis that have been sequestered away during the summer months. Luckily, green living guru Hanna Pumfrey Flor and Cesta is on hand to show you how to inject a new lease of life into your winter wardrobe.

The leaves are turning and the nights are drawing in; there's a definite crispness creeping into the air, which can only mean one thing - it's time to get your autumn-winter wardrobe sorted! Entering a new season brings a sense of newness, often in turn, making us want to go out and invest in a whole new look. Here's a tip: don't.
Refrain from spending your hard-earned cash on a totally new wardrobe, when a few extra pieces can transform what you have. Fashion is about expressing yourself, it's about creativity, not about spending frivolously. With that in mind, I have put together my top tips for reviving your autumn wardrobe ethically and consciously, ready for the season ahead.

BUY LESS, BUY BETTER
This is something I wish I could tell the 20-year-old me. Throughout my teens and early twenties, I brought, and brought. Cheap high street items that never quite did the job. At one point, I owned more than five pairs of identical Topshop black skinny jeans. Always needing to buy another pair as one had lost its colour four washes in, or gone baggy at the knees.
The fashion industry accounts for 10% of global carbon emissions, and fast fashion garments which are worn less than five times and kept for 35 days produce more than 400% carbon emissions per item per year than garments worn 50 times and kept for a full year.
Invest in classic styles that are timeless and suit your shape. This will ensure you stay in love and want to wear them for years to come.

MAKE INFORMED CHOICES
Do you ever look at the care label to find out what's in your clothes? When buying from the high street you'll see a lot of fabrics with 'poly' in. These aren't likely to be eco-friendly. Choose organic or sustainably produced materials like Tencel and Modal to limit the environmental impact and send a message to retailers to clean up their act.
The benefits of choosing safer, more eco-friendly materials are clear; choosing organic cotton, for example, yields a 40% reduction in global warming potential, 72% lower primary energy demand, and lower water consumption. Not only that, the farmers and workers involved in production are not exposed to the harmful chemicals that regular cotton growing demands.

PICK YOUR STATEMENT PIECE
When Karl Lagerfeld built a Chanel rocket launchpad in the middle of the Grand Palais, the trend for space-age fabrics this season was confirmed. If you're keen to follow the latest trends, then this is the one to pick for AW17. But, make it an ethical purchase, of course. I'll be getting my high-shine fix this season by rocking a bag. This brand use washable paper, sourced from environmentally appropriate forests in Vermount, that rivals leather in look, feel and durability. These metallic paper products are vegan-friendly and beautifully crafted to stand out from the crowd.

5 WAYS TO GO GREEN....

Can fashion exist responsibly? Yes! says ethical blogger Natalie Smith of sustainably-chic.com shares her eco advice for a more thoughtful wardrobe...

1. Find out who's the maker behind the product. Is the worker paid a fair wage? Is their work environment safe? If a site doesn't disclose this information, send an email. Transparency is extremely important, and if a brand is unwilling to answer your questions, I would be cautious.

2. Look for eco-friendly materials and certifications. This list is growing every year, and words like 'organic' and 'all natural' are easy to spot. Other materials I love to see in clothes tags are Tencel, linen and h**p. Fair Trade and GOTS Certified are globally recognised and reassuring when it comes to workers' rights.

3. Stick to the brands you can trust. Once you've established a handful of favorite conscious brands, keep supporting them. After all, they need you to continue! Most of them are very receptive to the market, so if there is something you are looking for that they don't stock, let them know. Plant that seed, and I'm sure enough requests will lead to a new product.

4. Follow sustainable blogs and publications. There's so much information you can find online and on social media! Bloggers are usually some of the first to know what's new in the conscious fashion and beauty industry, since brands reach out to them to promote new lines and campaigns.

5. Less is more. Gone are the days when you have a new outfit for every occasion (at least, that's what the movement is working towards). Its about choosing quality over quantity, and truly valuing that garment. You want to be able to wear it year after year, so sticking to timeless pieces is key. My closet - although bigger than I want - is going to stick around for decades. Who knows, maybe my kids will be rummaging through it one day...

Yesterday, Veggie's deputy editor Sophie managed to get a first look at BRITA United Kingdom's latest collaboration with fashion designer Henry Holland House of Holland. Famous for his cheeky slogan tees, Holland has created two limited-edition slogan t-shirts to bring attention to the 7.7 billion single-use plastic water bottles that end up in seas and landfill
every year.

Actress and environmental philanthropist, Lily Cole, is an ambassador for the campaign, encouraging people to make small changes that can have a big impact on the environment, such as swapping to a
reusable water bottle.

An average of 7 waste plastic bottles have been used in each slogan t-shirt. Find them on sale via the House of Holland website, with all profits going to the Marine Conservation Society (MCS).
