I posted a few months ago championing Harvey’s preventative treatment, but instead now there’s an emptiness inside. The treatment was unsuccessful and Harvey fitted into the “7% of cases that lead to complications” which has caused him to lose his sight albeit some weeks following the treatment. To say I’m devastated would be an understatement, I spent most of last Wednesday crying when I found out, and I hoped the additional treatment would reduce any swelling and bring his sight back, but it hasn’t 😭
The only saving grace is a few days before, Harvey had jumped 2 cracking DCs so I know we can still go out and compete - his left eye allows him to still see forward, but he’ll have a blind spot so he needs time before a fence.
I’ve been advised that visually you won’t be able to tell any difference and horses adapt to just having ‘one eye’ so I hope as time goes on, it’ll become normal and I won’t ‘think about it’.

In the class prior, I’d ridden like a potato over the first 6 fences… I’d left the ring feeling deflated, especially since my parents had come to watch (their first show in 5 years). Not to be beaten after what had been a great first few days I switched up my warm up, and rode determined in the main ring (even if they meant taking a few strides out 🥴).

Little voiceover update after our trip to Liphook Equine Hospital. I was hoping to film the assessments and treatment but unfortunately due to some emergencies that came in at the same time (both fortunately doing well!) Harvey was stabled and ‘fitted in’ when the vet was free.
Overall, we caught it early and this shouldn’t have any long lasting effects on him 🤍
