Avoiding Distractions - Part 1
Avoiding distractions is tough, and it takes a significant amount of work and will. If you are ready to put in the work the following ways will certainly be of great help to you.
1. Use the ‘Do Not Disturb’ Feature On Your Smartphones - Doing this one thing right now can give you instant results! I normally block all phone calls and notifications, barring the phone calls of my ‘ favorite contacts’, whenever I am working on something that requires my undivided attention.
2. Pomodoro Technique Is Your New Best Friend - For every task/project, you have to divide into short sprints and take periodic breaks. You work for 25 minutes, then take a break for five minutes. Each 25-minute work period is called a “Pomodoro”. After 4 pomodoros you take a long 20-minute break and start again.
3. Reserve Your Productive Window for Strategic and Priority Tasks - This one requires some introspection. You need to know your productive window. I know of people who can get things done in the morning, and I also know my fair share of night owls.
4. Remove All Background Noise - There is only so much you can control in an office environment. There will always be someone who wants to talk to you for ‘2 minutes’ and that ends up being a long conversation. Even if you’re working from home, there is enough background noise to successfully distract you.
There you have it. Let me know in the comments what has worked for you in the past.
