Microplastics commonly found in food packaging and paints have been discovered in the human heart for the first time.

A Chinese research team from Beijing Anzhen Hospital studied 15 patients who had heart surgery, examining their heart tissue for microplastics, particles under 5mm in size. The team explored if these particles can enter the cardiovascular system through various exposures. Blood samples were also taken from half of the patients.

The researchers discovered numerous microplastic pieces in most tissue samples and plastic in all blood samples. They identified nine plastic types in five heart tissue categories, including poly(methyl methacrylate), often used as a glass substitute. This plastic presence wasn't solely from surgical exposure, hinting at inadvertent introduction during the procedures.

A Massachusetts doctor has been arrested for allegedly exposing himself and ma********ng next to a 14-year-old girl on a flight from Hawaii while other passengers slept.

Dr. Sudipta Mohanty, 33, of Cambridge, was arrested Thursday and accused of performing the lewd act on Hawaiian Airlines Flight 90 from Honolulu to Boston in May last year, the US Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts said.

Mohanty, a primary care physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, was flying with a female companion and seated next to the girl, who was traveling with her grandparents, according to charging documents.

About halfway through the flight, the girl noticed that Mohanty had covered himself with a blanket up to his neck and that his leg was bouncing up and down, the affidavit states. She then observed that the blanket was no longer covering Mohanty, whose pants were unzipped as he masturbated until ej*******on, according to the filing. When Mohanty went to the plane’s restroom, the girl moved to an empty seat in another row for the rest of the flight because she felt “disgusted and very uncomfortable,” the filing said.

The accused perv and his companion had earlier been “holding hands and cuddling with each other. They were asking each other ‘basic level’ questions such as, ‘What is your favorite color?’ which (the girl) found strange,” the affidavit says.

After landing in Boston, the girl informed her family about the sickening incident and authorities were notified.

A Wisconsin mother recalled the frightening moment she woke up from her sleep to discover her child was missing — only to find the 3-year-old had escaped his crib and fled to McDonald’s.

“He was not in the house. He was not in the basement. He was not in the front yard or the backyard,” Marissa Phiffer, the mother of the twins, explained in her now-viral TikTok.

“This little boy woke up, put his shoes on and walked to McDonald’s.” The 23-year-old mother immediately called 9-1-1, terrified about what could’ve happened to her son right under her nose.

Police responded to the distressed mother’s home in “two seconds” with a photo of her son in hand and later informed Phiffer that Aiden was safe at a McDonald’s across the road from their home — a roughly .2 mile journey.

A concerned citizen had noticed Aiden wandering toward the fast food chain and contacted the police, Phiffer shared.

A Bosnian bodybuilder live-streamed the brutal murder of his ex-wife on Instagram Friday — before going on a shooting rampage that ended with his su***de.

Nermin Sulejmanovic, 35, filmed at least three videos documenting the violent spree that left three innocent people dead and three more injured in the northeastern town of Gradacac.

On Friday morning, Sulejmanovic posted an Instagram video announcing a live ex*****on and showed his injured ex-wife, implying she reported him to the police. Around 12,000 people witnessed the event, as a child cried in the background.

Sulejmanovic reveals he's the child's father and accuses his ex-wife of hiding the toddler and reporting him for domestic violence. He heartlessly shoots the woman in the head, then shows the child on the floor, urging someone to save them.

Sulejmanovic committed su***de “after being located and before being apprehended,” police in the city of Tuzla said in a statement.

Authorities did not immediately reveal a motive for the shocking crime but said Sulejmanovic’s ex-wife, who has not been identified, had reported him for threats and violence in the past.

A widow has given birth to a daughter three years after the baby's father died.

Jason Goodsell, 30, was travelling around Australia in February 2017 with his fiancée. Just days after he proposed, he was diagnosed with stage four bowel and liver cancer. Before he started treatment, he and his fiancée Sian froze some of his s***m.

The two proceeded to get married on May 3, 2019, the day of his death. A devastated Sian still managed to go ahead with the first embryo transfer and fell pregnant immediately. Sian gave birth to Matilda, now six months old, which the mother describes as the ‘female version of her father’.

The new mother hopes to keep Jason’s memory alive by telling stories and keeping photos around the house.

"Tilly will always know her dad,” she said.

A Finnish man has been arrested after a ‘joke’ with his friend’s car involving an explosive went totally wrong.

The man, who has not been identified, was arrested last Thursday after placing 12 kilos of dynamite in two cars that belonged to another man. Ostrobothnia Police Commissioner Tony Rauma confirmed that the two men knew each other prior to the incident. Despite the fact it’s the middle of August and not April Fools Day, the man still insisted that the dynamite was all part of a prank.

“According to his own words, he had done it as a joke,” said Rauma talking to Finnish media. However, the owner of the car was not amused by the dynamite gift and called the police to come and confiscate it. “In addition to dynamite, detonators were also confiscated from the cars," Commissioner Rauma added.

Police have ruled out this incident as a possible terrorist attack as the man claims it was never his intention to blow up the cars.

While the suspect was arrested on Thursday, he was later released on bail while the investigation is underway.

“He is suspected of an explosives crime, where the punishment scale is fines or a maximum of two years in prison,” said the police commissioner.

A New Zealand supermarket chain created a meal-planning bot using AI. The Savey Meal-Bot by PAK'nSAVE recommends recipes based on leftover ingredients.

The Guardian reported that one recipe, named the "aromatic water mix," would actually create chlorine gas. The bot described the recipe as "the perfect nonalcoholic beverage to quench your thirst and refresh your senses."

Inhaling chlorine gas can cause vomiting, suffocation, and even death.

Other users reported being recommended a "fresh breath" mocktail containing bleach and a "bleach-infused rice surprise," according to The Guardian.

One Texas woman had some serious bad luck when both a snake and a hawk had at her.

Peggy Jones had just been mowing her lawn in Silsbee when she found herself in a rather bizarre encounter, she told Click2Houston. While she was on a tractor mower, a snake fell out of the sky and landed on her and as it was tightening around her arm, gripping onto her, a hawk then swooped down. The bird began clawing at her arm, attacking her in its efforts to get its own prey.

“The snake was squeezing so hard, and I was waving my arms in the air. And then, this hawk was swooping down clawing at my arm over and over,” Jones said. “I just kept saying, ‘Help me, Jesus. Help me, Jesus’.”

The hawk eventually managed to rip the snake off the woman’s arm, flying away with its prize and leaving her arm bloodied and bruised. Jones was taken to the emergency room and treated for her injuries – cuts from the hawk and bruising from the snake gripping her arm. Luckily, there was no snake bite and she realised just how close she was to being bit.

The number of steps a person needs to walk every day in order to see health benefits is lower than previously thought, a new study suggests.

The study, published Wednesday in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, found that at least 3,967 steps a day reduced the risk of dying from any cause, while 2,337 steps a day reduced the risk of dying from cardiovascular diseases.

“Our analysis indicates that as little as 4,000 steps a day are needed to significantly reduce deaths from any cause, and even fewer to reduce deaths from cardiovascular disease,” lead author Maciej Banach, professor of cardiology at the Medical University of Lodz and adjunct professor at the Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease, said in a release.

A California mother is accused of filling her child’s baby bottle with alcohol after the 7-week-old was found intoxicated over the weekend, authorities said.

Honesti de La Torre, 37, is charged with child endangerment, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.

Deputies were called around 12:45 a.m. Saturday to an unincorporated area of Rialto, 55 miles east of Los Angeles.

When they arrived, they learned the child was found intoxicated, authorities said.

Officials said de la Torre was driving through Rialto and stopped to give the baby alcohol in an attempt to stop the baby from crying, authorities said. The child then became intoxicated.

The condition of the child was not revealed. De la Torre is being held in the West Valley Detention Center on a $60,000 bond. She is expected to appear in court Tuesday.

A 7-year-old boy in Brazil died after playing in a mountain of limestone powder left by the side of the road, which apparently poisoned him after he inhaled it.

The tragic final photo of little Arthur Emanuel Bitencourt shows him giving a double thumbs-up while sitting in a pile of the fateful substance, which is commonly used in construction and agriculture, just minutes before it took his life on Aug. 3. The boy was rushed to the hospital, but pronounced dead on arrival.

Arthur reportedly jumped into the toxic dust at a family property in Ipiranga, Paraná, in the South Region of Brazil, according to Jornal Razão. Medics said Arthur’s sudden death was a result of breathing in the powder, local media reported. His family posted his final picture on social media as a tribute, but also as a warning to others.

“This photo was the last and taken a few minutes before his tragic death, caused by inhaling limestone, while playing … The memories I will have of you, my dear child, will always be the best,” the boy’s uncle Romaldo Bitencourt captioned the photo.

The actor’s mother noted that the autopsy could come back as an accidental and tragic overdose, “but it’s abundantly clear that he did not intend to check out of this world.”

Air pollution is having an unbelievable effect on flies, altering how they attract one another and mate.

Scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology in Germany discovered these effects by developing an experiment that mimicked ozone levels similar to what is measured during the summertime in cities.

Typically, male flies’ pheromones attract females while simultaneously repelling other males. But increased ozone levels caused a decrease in pheromones, which caused females to be less attracted to males and led to courtship between male flies.

“We could explain that males started courting each other after a short ozone exposure because they obviously could not distinguish ozonated males from females,” said researchers Nanji Jiang and Markus Knaden. “However, we had not thought about this before. Therefore, we were quite puzzled by the behavior of the ozone-exposed males, which lined up in long courtship chains.”

A 74-year-old female former private school teacher in Monroe County, Wisconsin, has been convicted and faces hundreds of years in prison after being charged with sexually abusing a 14-year-old male student.

Anne N. Nelson-Koch, 74, was convicted on all 25 counts Monday stemming from repeated sexual assaults on one of her 14-year-old male students, Wisconsin State Journal reported.

Nelson-Koch, a teacher at a private school in Tomah, Wisconsin, is said to have assaulted the teenage boy in the basement of the school several times during the 2016-2017 school year. Nelson-Koch was 67 at the time and the boy was 14.

Skiles asked the judge to keep Nelson-Koch in jail until sentencing, but Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Richard Radcliffe released her with a GPS monitor until she is sentenced on Oct. 27.

Nelson-Koch faces up to 600 years in prison, according to Monroe County District Attorney Kevin Croninger.

An Indiana mother of two who told her family it felt like she couldn’t drink enough water to feel satiated collapsed and died from water toxicity — a rare consequence of drinking too much water too quickly.

Ashley Summers, 35, was out at Lake Freeman with her husband and two young daughters over the Fourth of July weekend when she began feeling severely dehydrated.

“Someone said she drank four bottles of water in 20 minutes,” her brother Devon Miller told WRTV. “I mean, an average water bottle is like 16 ounces, so that was 64 ounces that she drank in a span of 20 minutes. That’s half a gallon. That’s what you’re supposed to drink in a whole day.”

On the last day of the family’s trip, the mom began feeling like she couldn’t drink enough water. Summers complained about feeling lightheaded and having a stubborn headache, her family said.

After returning from the trip, Summers passed out in her garage before being taken to IU Health Arnett Hospital.

She never regained consciousness, and doctors told her family she had died from water toxicity.

A former general manager of a Wendy's restaurant in Pennsylvania who police said made up a fake employee so she could pocket their wages has been charged with theft by deception.

Linda Johnson created a "ghost employee" named William Bright, whom she clocked in and out at the outlet she managed in Lancaster, the Manheim Township Police Department said last week.

Johnson kept up the scheme for close to a year, during which time she manually logged 128 shifts for the fake worker who was paid $19,898 between June 2021 and May last year, the police department said.

In viral footage, the dog could be seen in an enclosure for African lions at Yuanjiashan Zoo in Xichang, in the southwestern province of Sichuan.

The clip of the pooch at the zoo was uploaded to social media by a man identified only by his surname Tang, who had taken his child to visit the zoo on Saturday 27 March 2021, according to South China Morning Post. "At first, we thought we had gone to the wrong place. But after walking around the cage, we realised it is where the lion should be housed," Tang said in the video.

"Is that an African lion? Is it because it hasn't grown up yet? It looks familiar to me." A zoo worker in the video then told Tang this was a temporary arrangement and the lions had been moved while enclosures were modified.

He said: "We are adjusting the animals' accommodations, with the lion's sign not taken down [from the cage] yet."

Tang wasn't convinced by this explanation though, and he accused the zoo of trying to sell tickets under the false pretence that visitors could view lions.

A Lufthansa pilot allegedly upset over being forced to divert his flight from Catania flew the commercial plane in a pen*s-shaped pattern before landing in Malta.

Flight 306 took off from Frankfurt, Germany, on Friday and was bound for the Sicilian city until the plane was warned mid-flight that it could not land at the Fontanarossa airport, which was seeing reduced operations following a terminal fire in July, La Repubblica reported. The Lufthansa pilot, who has not been identified, allegedly grew irritated about having to stall the plane before being told the flight would need to fly south and land on the island of Malta.

Before leaving Catania’s airspace, the plane was spotted heading eastward toward the Sicilian coast and flying in such a way that the flight path created the shape of male genitalia, according to images recorded by air traffic website Flight Radar. The pattern took about 16 minutes to complete.

The plane then headed back to Sicily and traveled south to its new destination.

Lufthansa officials told La Repubblica that the ph***ic pattern was created by coincidence when the pilot had to circle over Catania before being instructed to divert the flight.

SAC, which operates the Fontanarossa airport in Catania, blamed a sudden change in wind patterns for the diversion.

Wallis Computer Solutions, a small IT support business in Dalwallinu, Australia recently posted an ad searching for a “non-woke” MSP L2+ Technician to join the team.

“We are looking for an MSP technician who is now looking for a position in a company who is not woke and values diversity of thought,” the advertisement read.

The term “woke” has become popularized in recent years and usually refers to being socially aware, particularly around political and social justice issues.

There are those who also use it in a negative sense to describe ideologies – often progressive, left leaning values – that they don’t agree with.

Under the “core position details” part of the job description, potential applicants were informed there would be “no requirements for pronouns”. “We know what a woman is,” the ad read.
