Yesterday, I attended my first in-person podcasting conference. 🥂

The last time I attended a conference was about 10 years ago when I was still working in an office. The venue, a co-working office and event space, brought back a lot of nostalgia.

The event had a great lineup of speakers! Thanks to for bringing , the longest-running annual in-person podcasting conference in the world, to Manila. 🙌

I also got to meet some of my online podcasting friends, but I realized I need to work on my social skills—I was too shy to approach people.

Swipe to read some of my key takeaways from the event.

Balancing Audio Quality and Content 🎧📚

Both audio quality and content play a huge role in the success of a podcast, but finding the right balance is key.

Regardless of how intriguing the topic or conversation might be, poor audio quality can drive your listeners away right from the beginning. Similarly, even top-notch audio quality won't hold listeners' attention if the content lacks coherence or if you're simply rambling without making sense.

To find the right balance, it’s all about preparation and editing. Here are some quick tips if you’re producing your own podcast:

🔍 Do Your Research - If you're producing solo episodes, begin by researching your chosen topic thoroughly. Create an outline to effectively organize your thoughts or even draft a script. However, be aware to avoid coming across as if you're merely reading from a script.

🎯 Establish Content Pillars - Although hitting the mark with every single episode can be challenging, especially when you're just starting out, defining content pillars can help to find which topics resonate best with your audience.

🎙️Arrange Your Recording Space and Equipment - Creating a quiet and dedicated recording area might sound simple, but it's crucial for consistently clear audio. Remember, even the best or most expensive microphone can't fix a poorly set up recording space.

👥 Prepare Your Guests - Recording podcasts remotely with guests can be a bit challenging, especially since many guests might not have access to a suitable recording environment or proper equipment. Help them out by sharing interview questions and a checklist: stable internet, working mic, and headphones.

✂️ Refine Your Episode with Editing - Proper editing can remove mistakes, pauses, and irrelevant sections, ensuring a smooth narrative. Avoid over-editing, which can make dialogue seem unnatural. For consistent audio quality across different devices, use headphones that are tuned flat. Many modern headphones enhance sound, but this may not translate well to most listeners.

If this feels overwhelming, working with a production team can help save you time, stay consistent, and sound like a pro.🎙️

Editing your podcast doesn't mean you're not being authentic. ❌

In fact, it's quite the opposite. It means that you value your audience's time and want to ensure they have the best possible experience when consuming your content.

By carefully editing your podcast, you can make it more polished, engaging, and easily digestible while still preserving the core authenticity of your message.

Editing your podcast allows you to curate your content, removing unnecessary tangents, long pauses, or technical glitches that might distract your listeners.

You're not trying to hide imperfections; rather, you want your audience to have an enjoyable and valuable listening experience. 🎧

Is it an important metric for measuring the success of your show?

Have you heard of the term ‘Podfaster’? ⚡

According to urbandictionary.com, a Podfaster listens to a large number of podcasts at faster than normal speeds, often speeds of 1.2x, 1.5x, and sometimes 2x and even 3x.

They do this to listen to many podcasts during a week compared to the normal average of 5-7 a week.

I honestly didn’t know there was a term for this until I researched if listeners are distracted by fast-talking hosts.

It turns out, some people can’t listen to audio at normal speed!

Do you consider yourself a podfaster?

What speed do you listen to your podcasts?

I’m curious! Let me know in the comments!

Should you really stop using audiograms to promote your podcast? 🤔

I see a lot of comments or advice that podcasters should stop using audiograms to promote their show because it’s old and boring.

But I honestly don’t get it 🤯

It may not be the latest format BUT…

👉 What if it still works for your show?
👉 What if your audience doesn’t like the super fancy video clips?
👉 Will your static post get better reach than an audiogram reel?

Sure, we all know video clips are way better but the reality is...

Not everyone records their podcast on video!

If you have a podcast, you already know that recording, editing, and publishing great content will not be enough. 🙅‍♀️

You also need to promote your show so your audience can find you.

You can have the best topic and audio quality podcast in the world, but if no one knows about it, then all your hard work is for nothing.

Here are 3 easy ways to promote your show:

Struggling to Stay Consistent on Your Podcast? 😵

Here are five tips you can implement.

1. Create a content pillar for your show

Developing a strong content pillar is essential to help you stay focused and deliver consistent and engaging episodes. Crafting the right content pillar for your podcast show won’t be easy; it requires careful planning and consideration of what kinds of topics your audience is interested in.

2. Decide on your episode structure

Most podcast episodes have the three basic podcast segments - the intro, the main content and the outro. But there are other ways to structure your episodes, for example - you can add a snippet from the main content at the start before the intro. No matter which structure you choose, stick to it so your audience will know what to expect.

3. Schedule your podcast recording day

No matter what format you choose, establishing a regular podcasting routine can help you maintain momentum and enthusiasm. One effective strategy is to choose one day in your week or month as podcast recording day. Planning ahead and creating at least a basic schedule will make podcasting easier, better organized, and more enjoyable for everyone involved.

4. Stay on-brand

To maximize the impact of a podcast, staying on brand is essential. This means making sure each episode is tied to the same look and feel as your podcast artworks - brand colors, images, and even your theme music. This helps reinforce the overall identity of your brand in the minds of subscribers.

5. Work with a Podcast Manager

Managing the podcast workflow can sometimes be overwhelming and time-consuming. Working with a podcast manager is one of the best ways to ensure the podcast runs smoothly and that you don’t lose sight of important tasks. A podcast manager will help you stay on track, save you valuable time, and optimize your workflow for success.

Implementing these five tips will help you create a more professional and consistent podcast that your listeners will love. 😍

Why editing your podcast episode is important ⚠️

Editing your podcast takes a lot of time, especially if you’re not a professional audio editor or engineer.

If you’re publishing unedited episodes, here are three reasons you should reconsider.

1. It makes your episode flow better so listeners can easily digest your content. 🎧

2. It improves the quality of your audio recording to sound like a pro. 🎙️

3. It’s a sign that you care about your audience and respect their time. ⏰

A Beginner's Guide to Basic Podcast Recording 🎙️

If you are ready to start, here are some of the basics you will need to get your podcast up and running.

* Microphone w/ stand

If you have a quality microphone, you will start with a clean, high-quality sound. A microphone stand is also recommended.

* Audio Interface

Most audio starts and ends as analog sounds. To make digital audio files, a device needs to convert that analog electric signal from our microphone into something our computer can recognize.

* Computer

Laptops and desktop computers are a good choice for most podcasters since various software options are available on both Mac and PC.

* Recording Software

You will need software to edit and process your podcast. One of the most popular pieces of podcast software is the open-source program Audacity which is free to use and is available on Mac and PC.

* Headphones

Every podcaster needs a pair of headphones. This way, you can hear yourself while talking to ensure everything sounds right and there aren't any extraneous sounds sneaking in.

* Quiet Room

You want your podcast to sound great, right? Well, there's no point in getting the best quality equipment and software if you're recording in a noisy space. So make sure that everything is set up in a quiet room so it can do its job properly!

Happy Friday! 🕺💃 Do you batch-record your podcast episodes?

When it comes to podcasting, there are a few different ways you can record your episodes.

Some hosts like to record all their podcast episodes at once, also known as "batching”. This is a great way to increase their productivity and save time, especially if it’s a solo format.

Others prefer to record each episode as it is released, which gives them more flexibility in terms of topic and focus. 🎯

There's no right or wrong way to do it, so experiment and see what works best for you and your show.
