In one of the biggest shocks of the night, Sam Carling also turned North West Cambridgeshire red after a full recount with a swing of over 20% to oust incumbent Shailesh Vara after 19 years.

Anyone just waking up, Peterborough has turned red with Andrew Pakes for Peterborough winning after a full recount by a much smaller than expected margin of 118 votes.

So, 8 hours after the polls closed, we now know that Peterborough will have 2 Labour MPs for the next few years.

Plus, obviously the Council is currently being minority ruled by the Labour group.

LDEM: 7.19% (-3.43%)
GRN: 6.66% (+2%)

Labour GAIN from Conservative

Turnout: 58.76% (-9.57%)

CON: 31.76% (-14.86%)
REF: 12.85% (+8.41%)
WPGB: 12.06% (NEW)
LDEM: 4.17% (-0.7%)
GRN: 6.07% (+4.55%)
CPA: 0.54% (+0.22%)
IND: 0.5% (-0.04%)

No Monster Raving Looney (0.24%) as previous.

Labour GAIN from Conservative

Turnout: 57.27% (-8.74%)

So the exit poll suggests a big Labour majority, although potentially not as big as some thought. To me, it suggest Labour will take Peterborough, but might not quite have enough to take NW Cambs.

No votes have been counted yet though!

I've been taking a look at the last 5 MRP polls released over the last 10 days or so. No variance in result for Peterborough.

Labour: 42 - 51.85%
Conservative: 21 - 24.30%
Reform: 14.47 - 21%
Lib Dem: 4 - 7%
Green: 3.61 - 8.20%
Other: 0 - 9.70%

4 of them give the other 3 candidates 1% or less, but the 5th gives them nearly 10%, whilst the range of victory for
Andrew Pakes for Peterborough goes from 18.3% to 28.32%.

The NW Cambs MRP polling is quite frankly all over the place, ranging from a comfortable Conservative hold to a big Labour gain, and everything in-between.

Conservative: 25 - 37.46%
Labour: 29.40 - 39%
Reform: 15.90 - 22%
Lib Dem: 8 - 10.90%
Greens: 5.79 - 7.70%

So it seems that not only are there no In person North West Cambridgeshire hustings, but BBC Cambridgeshire aren't holding one either. Why are the 75k residents of the constituency less important than its neighbours?

After crunching some numbers on the polls prior to the election being called, this is where I would put the outcome at this point.

Reform is still an unknown, as these figures are using UKIP/Brexit Party data.

I've now sent emails/been in touch with all Conservative, Labour, Lib Dem, Green and Reform UK candidates regarding taking part in a pre-election podcast.

I've had a few affirmative responses already, but will give the others some time to respond.

With this is mind, please do tell me what you think the 10 questions, or 1 of, I should put to each of the candidates.

There will be a lot of crossover, but I imagine there will be slight differences between Peterborough and NW Cambs candidates.

Day 1 for North West Cambridgeshire is a little more mixed, ranging from a Conservative hold by 7% through to a Labour win by just under 10%.

Lots still to play for here this would suggest.

All suggest Labour on for more than 50% of the vote as it stands.

Peterborough Council has a new leader in Cllr Dennis Jones.

At tonight's Annual Council meeting, Councillor Dennis Jones of the Labour and Cooperative Party was voted in as Leader of the Council. Councillor Jones also announced his new cabinet members, which includes Councillor Amjad Iqbal as Deputy Leader.

NW Cambs MP Shailesh Vara MP has issued the following response to yesterday's article in The Mirror.

The Mirror is reporting that North West Cambridgeshire MP Shailesh Vara "made £1.6m profit selling the townhouse taxpayers helped him buy in Pimlico, Central London. He paid £1.2m for the home and sold it for £2.8m."

The Tories were accused of ­hypocrisy after pushing for police to probe deputy Labour leader Ms Angela Rayner over a £48,000 profit she made selling a former council house

Labour finally has a candidate for NW Cambridgeshire in Sam Carling.

He's currently a Councillor for West Chesterton on Cambridge City Council, and an Academic Supervisor at the University of Cambridge.

One of the results of the night saw Cllr Kirsty Knight retain her seat less than 2 months after leaving the Green party, keeping over 80% of the votes she gained in 2021.

Orton Longueville was one of two gains for the Greens, following up on Cllr Heather Skibsted's success in retaining her seat in the ward last year.

He kept around 75% of last year's Green voters, which was enough for a 22 vote majority.

North Ward was a comfortable hold for Labour. There was a swing of nearly 4% to the Conservatives from 2021, and their vote share increased by nearly 12% from last year.

The Greens also saw a big boost, with their vote share up over 12% from 2021 and over 10% from last year.

Hargate & Hempsted was another gain for Peterborough First, with Cllr Saqib Farooq joining his father and Council leader Cllr M Farooq, and Cllr John Howard to complete a clean sweep of the ward.

His majority is much higher than either of them managed.
