The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has opposed the plan by President Bola Tinubu to enforce his predecessor’s decision to remove fuel subsidy by June ending.

Tinubu had earlier on Monday, in Abuja, affirmed that his administration would not continue to pay subsidy on petroleum products.

He said given the high opportunity cost the Federal Government was suffering to fund subsidies, it was no longer justifiable to continue.

The fuel subsidy is gone!” Tinubu exclaimed during his inaugural address at Eagle Square, Abuja, shortly after he was sworn-in as the 16th President of Nigeria.

The President said “Subsidy can no longer justify its ever-increasing costs in the wake of drying resources. We shall instead re-channel the funds into better investment in public infrastructure, education, health care and jobs that will materially improve the lives of millions.

“We commend the decision of the outgoing administration in phasing out the petrol subsidy regime which has increasingly favoured the rich more than the poor.”

Tinubu said since there was no provision for subsidy in the budget from June 2023, and it stands removed.

President Tinubu reveals how he will treat Atiku, Peter Obi:

President Bola Tinubu has said he will treat his opponents in the February 25 presidential election with respect.
Tinubu defeated Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) to emerge as president-elect.

He was officially sworn-in as Nigeria’s 16th president on Monday at the Eagle Square in Abuja.
My victory does not render me more Nigerian than the rest of you. It also does not render my opponents less Nigerian than me.

“I will treat my opponents, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, as important compatriots,” Tinubu said in his inaugural speech.

Atiku and Obi are still in court, where they are contesting the results of the election.

Appointment Of Ministers Of State Unconstitutional, Keyamo Tells Buhari
The outgoing Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo says it is an aberration to appoint a Minister of State.

He stated this while making a speech during a valedictory session chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.

Citing some portions of the constitution, Keyamo, however, noted that his observation was not out of ingratitude but as his contribution to the nation’s constitutional development as a relatively young democracy and to aid future governments to optimise the performance of those they appoint as ministers.

Meanwhile, at the valedictory session, the President thanked his ministers and State House staff who worked with him in the past eight years.

He said is proud that he and his cabinet gave their best to Nigerians and urged them to support for the incoming President.

“I am proud to say we gave our best,’’ the President was quoted as saying in a statement released by his spokesman, Femi Adesina.

The President directed the ministers to tidy up their work and avoid last-minute rush that could compromise the good deeds they had done over the years.

“Information reaching me now from an insider is that Tinubu is trying to lean on Buhari to declare a public holiday on Friday 26 May, which is the date the supreme court is supposed to deliver the judgment that could disqualify him.

He has also tasked Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his money launderer-in-chief Gilbert Chagoury to raise a total of N100bn with which to approach the supreme court justices.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant so kindly retweet!”

Court Overrules Tinubu, APC, Consolidates Atiku, Obi’s Petitions..👈😠

The Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, consolidated the three different petitions that are seeking to nullify the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.

A five-member panel of the court led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, in a unanimous decision, dismissed objections the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, raised against the merger of the petitions.

The court held that Justice of the cases demanded that they should be consolidated and dealt with as one petition since they all relate to the same election.

Consequently, it slated May 30 for candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Peter Obi, to open his case against the outcome of the presidential election that held on February 25.

However, though Obi earlier said he would need seven weeks to present his case through 50 witnesses, the court, in its ruling, reduced the period to three weeks, even as it gave the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Tinubu and the Vice President-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima, five days each to defend the petition.

Likewise, the court gave the 4th respondent in the case, Kabiru Masari, three days to also defend himself.

The court stressed that the parties would adopt final briefs of argument on August 5 to enable it to fix a date for judgement.

Aside from Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who came second in the election, and Obi of the LP who came third in the election, the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, equally lodged a petition to challenge the outcome of the presidential election.

Though five petitions were initially filed to challenge the return of Tinubu as winner of the election, however, the Action Alliance, AA, on May 8, withdrew its case, even as the Action Peoples Party, APP, followed suit two days later by also discontinuing further proceedings on its own petition

Meanwhile, the Justice Tsammani-led panel gave a hint that it may ban both lawyers and members of the public from entering the courtroom with mobile phones on the next adjourned date.

Peter Obi- Court shuns SAN briefed by Apapa-led faction of Labour Part. Una think say una wise😁😁😁

ABUJA–A mild drama played out at the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, sitting in Abuja on Friday, as the Lamidi Apapa-led faction of the Labour Party, LP, briefed a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, to announce appearance for the party.

Immediately the petition the party and its candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, filed to challenge the outcome of the presidential election that held on February 25, was called up for hearing and lawyers were asked to announce their appearances, Chief Oba Maduabuchi, SAN, stood up and told the court that he was briefed to represent the LP.

The senior lawyer addressed the court after Prof. Awa Kalu, SAN, who appeared alongside five others SANs, had already announced his presence as counsel for the petitioners.

Maduabuchi, SAN, told the court that he was instructed by the party to appear on its behalf and to represent it in the matter.

However, the Justice Haruna Tsammani-led five-member panel of the court declined to record his appearance.

“You did not file this petition. Let the person that filed the case announce appearance. We cannot record you,” Justice Tsammani held.

Another member of the panel berated Maduabuchi, SAN, for accepting the brief when he was aware that the party already had its team of lawyers.

“As a learned silk, you should know better and you should have told whoever that briefed you that there is another lawyer handling the matter,” a member of the panel added.

Realising that he would not be allowed to take over the case, Maduabuchi, said he would go back and relate what happened in court to his client.

Court nullifies Alex Otti’s candidature, all Labour Party candidates in Abia, Kano😠😠😠

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano, presided over by Justice M N Yunusa has nullified the candidature of the Abia State Governor-elect Dr Alex Otti and all the candidates of the Labour Party in Abia and Kano States.

The court ruled that their emergence was not in compliance with the provisions of the 2022 electoral act.

The Court in Suit No FHC/KN/CS/107/2023 filed by Mr Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim against the Labour Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, ruled that the failure of the Labour Party to submit its membership register to the INEC within 30 days before their primaries renders the process invalid.

The court ruled that their emergence was not in compliance with the provisions of the 2022 electoral act.

The party that has not complied with the provisions of the electoral act cannot be said to have candidate in an election and cannot be declared winner of an election; this being so, the votes credited to the 1st defendant is a wasted vote,” the Judge ruled.
