We were watching a movie several years ago, a wealthy Igbo man insisted his daughter won't marry the village guy she fell in love with.

Eventually, the village guy became rich and took care of her.

I remember asking my brother why people don't want their kids to marry a poor person, and he said, "fear."

You see, your parents are afraid of that man because they saw what you didn't see.

The movie doesn't always end that way, but the bird is in your hand. If he doesn't take care of you now, he won't take care of you later, so don't create a burden for yourself and your parents.
