Gucci celebrates an epic milestone this year: 100 years of being one of the worlds premier fashion labels. Founded in 1921 as a leather goods company specializing in luggage and handbags for elite Italian travelers, Gucci has undergone countless reinventions over the yearsnotably in the 80s, when it became the go-to brand for musicians, especially American rappers. Dapper Dan of Harlem famously pirated Gucci during that decade, setting in motion a streetwear craze for the GG logo and making it synonymous with palpably cool street style. Guccis unique ability to remain relevant and at the forefront of pop culture writ large inspired creative director Alessandro Michele to create the Gucci 100 collection, which honors the brands place in the cultural zeitgeist.
The centennial, for me, represents an opportunity to bear witness to Guccis eternal vitality that year after year, is reborn; it renews itself, reestablishing an unusual relationship with contemporaneity as a boy, forever young, observing the world with a powerful vision, Michele exclusively tells ELLE.com. I recognized the manifestation of its youth in it having intercepted and traversed, for one hundred years now, popular culture in all its forms. Above all, in music: the only medium, aside from fashion, more reactive to the times that mutate and mark the new, the today, the now.

Joshua Woods

Harnessing the joint power of fashion and music, Michele created Gucci 100 as an homage to the two creative mediums. According to Musixmatch, a music database that collaborated with the House on this project, Gucci has been mentioned in no less than 22,705 songs since its inception (yes, you read that correctly). Michele capitalizes on the brands rich lyrical history by emblazoning ready-to-wear, accessories, and leather goods with the Gucci 100 logo, as well as three phrases containing Gucci from three songs: Music is Mine Gucci Seats Reclined from The R (1988) by Eric B. Rakim, This Ones Dedicated To All You Gucci Bag Carriers Out There Its Called You Got Good Taste from You Got Good Taste (1983) by The Cramps, and, my personal favorite, And The Men Notice You With Your Gucci Bag Crew from Amy Winehouses F**k Me Pumps (2003).

Joshua Woods

On his latest hack, Michele notes: It isnt a revisionist attempt to rummage through the past. If anything, mine is a reverse revisionism of the Houses history, stitched back together by a piercing note, a melody, a refrain. Also because, if I were to depict Gucci, for me it would be an eternal teenager who hangs out at places where music is heard and played.
For Michele, Gucci is a gesture, a moment in time that can be succinctly described in a song, or a piece of clothing. The campaign video, shot by Joshua Woods, encapsulates this distinct energy as well as the transportive power of music and dress. For the momentous launch, Gucci will open pop-ups around the world where pieces from the Gucci 100 collection will be available to shop. Gucci will also unveil a digital pop-up to commemorate the centennial. Heres to 100 more years.

Greys Anatomy fans knew someone from days of yore would be returning to the show for the season 18 premiere, but they just didnt know who it would be.
After airing promos teasing that someone from Merediths past comes back, the venerable ABC hospital drama revealed on Thursday, Sept. 30 that the person wastransplant surgeon Nick Marsh, as played by Scott Speedman, who is now a series regular this season. The reunion occurred when Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) bumped into him during a chance encounter at a restaurant in Minnesota while she was being recruited by a neurosurgeon portrayed byPeter Gallagher.
Although Nick and Meredith clicked during his single season 14 episode, during which they flirted as he recovered from surgery to repair his kidney, fans may have been hoping to see someone theydhad more time to get to know.
One apparently disappointed fan tweeted a photo of Kate WalshsAddison with the message, Who we wanted, followed by a pic of Nick Marsh, who was accompanied by the note, Who we got. Luckily, fanswill have that wish come true soon enough, as Kate, who departed as a series regular after season three, is indeed set to return this season.

If you have not yet seen James Wans Malignant, your spooky season thus far in 2021 is lacking. Following the directors run of hauntings and blockbusters, he has returned to his grimy, twist-filled roots with the movie, and it makes for a fantastically horrific experience. I explain as much in my four-star review of the film (which is totally spoiler-free), but you dont have to take my word for it that its great. Also very much a fan of the new horror flick is genre legend Stephen King, who just recently caught up with the feature.
The author behind Carrie, The Shining, and IT didnt precisely rush to watch Malignant, as the film was first released about three weeks ago but its definitely a case of better late than never, as he clearly appreciated the viewing experience. He didnt precisely provide elaborate criticism of the movie, limiting his thoughts to a single adjective, but its a word that has significance. Taking to his personal Twitter page, Stephen King wrote,

Its unfortunate that Stephen King was unable to watch Malignant in a theater, as it is the exact kind of film that you want to experience with a crowd full of shocked and gasping movie-goers but clearly watching the film at home didnt dampen his appreciation. Brilliant shouldnt be a word used haphazardly, but James Wans latest is a horror ride that earns it.
Based on an original story by James Wan and Ingrid Bisu, and written by Akela Cooper, Malignant centers on a young woman named Madison (Annabelle Wallis), who is pregnant with her first child, and hoping that she bring it to term after a number of miscarriages. As bad as the stress is, she also has to deal with an abusive husband (Jake Abel), and her troubles only become exponentially worse when a dark figure from her past named Gabriel returns after years spent away.
Being part of the 2021 Warner Bros. slate, Malignant was released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max when it came out earlier this month, though the latter is only a limited engagement. If youre unable to see the movie on the big screen (which, I cant stress enough, really is the best way to see it), you can still stream it between now and October 11 which means that you wont be able to watch at home during the actual Halloween holiday.
Stephen King knows a thing or two about scary stories, so do yourself a favor and check out this brilliant movie as soon as possible. And for those of you who are perpetually excited about seeing the latest King adaptation, get the scoop on whats happening with all future projects by checking out our Upcoming Stephen King Movies And TV guide.

Jamie Magnifico

In ELLE.coms monthly series Office Hours, we ask people in powerful positions to take us through their first jobs, worst jobs, and everything in between. This month, we spoke with Katie Sturino, who started her career in fashion PR before taking over her own corner of the Internet as an entrepreneur, influencer, and body acceptance advocate. If youre not one of her 650K Instagram followers, you probably know her from one of her other ventures: Shes the brains behind the blog The 12ish and the podcast B**b Sweat; she turned her late dog Toast into a viral Instagram star; shes the author of Body Talk; and shes the founder of the internet-favorite beauty brand Megababe. Im a real career chameleon, says the multi-hyphenate. Im on my fourth real career right now. Below, Sturino reveals her advice for starting a business, the piece of clothing that makes her feel like a boss, and how shes learned to trust her crazy ideas, even when people were telling her otherwise.

My first job
My high school job was babysitting, but when I moved to New York, I worked my first retail job at Club Monaco, because I needed a supplemental income. Working in retail is really hard. Im bad at folding. Im bad at hanger spacing. Im bad at the cash register. But I was great at helping people pick out clothes. I got up in peoples faces, and I was like, Do you have an event youre shopping for? and they were like, No, Im just browsing, but I would help them anyway. I learned about customer service and dealing with people and making people feel good.
Why I started my own PR firm at 25 years old
I loved working in public relations. I loved connecting businesses with media and having an impact on their sales and their growth. I did not love the environment that fashion PR typically came with, so I decided to work on my own. My family was like, Dont do this, youll have to move home, but you have to take risks if youre going to be successful. I dont think that means you quit your job and have no backup plan and no savings; it just means that it can be scary. Was I young, and was I faking it until I made it? For sure. But I knew that I would work hard for people, and I knew that was not something that people always did in the office where I came from.

What I learned managing a viral dog account
In 2011, there were no famous dogs on Instagram. So when I said, Im going to make Toast a famous fashion dog, and were going to talk about puppy mill rescue, people were like, Dont do that. But when I started my PR company, everyone said dont do it, and then I was able to support myself and I loved my job. That was a real sign that I should listen to my gut and listen to the crazy ideas that I have, even when everyone around me says theyre dumb. Both PR and dog-aging were professionally successful and personally rewarding, but part of having a modern job is that youre always going to have to reinvent yourself. So when the dog market was getting oversaturated and that business was changing, I leaned into another thought I had, which is that there was no one out there who was my size doing style the way that I do it. Again, people said, Dont do this, but I listened to myself. Its the same pivot when I started Megababe. I had a bunch of people telling me no. I have always had to follow my instincts.

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

My advice for staring your own business
People say, I want to start this pedicure company, but Id have to quit my job first, so that I can focus on the pedicure company. You dont quit your job to focus on the pedicure company. You side hustle the pedicure company until you have so much work with it that you cant do your regular job. People are always like, Well, I have to pay my bills. Of course you have to pay your bills. No ones saying to go quit your job today. Also, not everyones an entrepreneur. Thats something Ive had to learn. Working in small businesses requires that you wear many hats, that you are a self-starter, that youre able to do things on your own. Not everyone wants to work like that.
Why I call myself a body acceptance advocate
The body positive movement is responsible for where we are today, and as its become successful, weve been allowed to get more nuanced. I loved the concept of diversity in advertising and the clothes that people are offered and who were seeing in positions of power. But what I didnt love is the idea of radical love for every part of your body, out loud, paint your stretch marks, write a love letter to your cellulite. That didnt jive with my own personal feelings. I was much more like, Okay, you have really wide, big feet. Lets move on. I just want women to accept themselves the way they are right now. Doesnt mean you cant change your body, doesnt mean you cant gain or lose weight. Its more about separating your self-worth from the number in your shirt or the size of your pants or the number on the scale.

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

How I approach making change in my industry
Call people in. Its a different approach. Calling people out, boycotting, singling people out, canceling peoplethere certainly are people who deserve that. But in my opinion, you have to give people the opportunity to change. The first step can be making them publicly aware of the problem. Thats why I go into stores, and I try on a size 10. I understand a size 10 doesnt fit me. Im trying to show the people in that design room how far away they are from being able to dress my body and how small their biggest size is. Whether they want to make that change or not is fine. In this day and age, brands who decide they dont want to extend their sizes and stay at a size 10, thats a real choice.
This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

01/10/2021

By now, weve all heard that social media can take a toll on your mental health, and for me, thats certainly been true. The more I scroll, the more I compare myself to others, thinking about what I dont have, what I dont look like, and what Im not doing, instead of all I have to be grateful for. Ive tried everything to mitigate these negative feelings online. Then, finally, after many failed attempts at a social media cleanse, I decided to create a mindful Instagram account.
That wasnt the idea at first. Instead, I tried deleting social media altogether but while this did help me in many ways, I often found myself missing the influencers and accounts that genuinely motivated and inspired me. So, I downloaded the apps again, and this time I was determined to unfollow any accounts that made me feel bad about myself. That ended up being a bit more unrealistic than I expected, so I thought, Why not just start fresh? Thats when my mindful Instagram account was born, and its been so beneficial.
So, what exactly is a mindful Instagram account? For me personally, this account is a safe space. Its a place I can go to be inspired to take action to be the best version of myself. I only follow people whose posts actually help me become a better person every day. For me, this means meditation coaches, positive affirmation accounts, healthy recipe bloggers, favorite podcasts, and more.
While Ive chosen to keep my account private, so that no one other than myself can follow it, I (sparingly) post my favorite quotes and recipes, and share my progress. Because no one else sees what Im posting, this has been a great way for me to focus on how Im feeling, instead of how I look in the eyes of others. On days when Im feeling extra blah about myself, its a safe space for me to check in and see my progress, as well as some inspiring content.

Ive stopped comparing myself to others, and it feels good.

The longer Ive had this mindful Instagram account, the easier its become to prioritize my health and well-being. Instead of having to scroll through all of my friends vacation photos, I can log into Instagram and go right to that chocolate protein pancake recipe Ive been dying to try. It has helped me feel connected to the things that truly matter: my health, both physical and mental. I feel better about myself simply because Ive taken this step to reduce all of the other *noise*. Im happier and more present. Instead of mindlessly scrolling, Im able to focus on myself. Ive stopped comparing myself to others, and it feels good.
Id be lying if I said I post regularly, because I really dont. But Ive learned that you dont always have to be doing something or posting something to better yourself. The same way you feed your body with nutritious foods, you can feed your mind with content that actually makes you feel good. Im committed to keeping up my mindful Instagram account. Its made a world of difference for me, and I think it can for you, too. So, go on try it.

Australia will start to reopen its international border from November, allowing fully vaccinated travellers into the country.
Only Australian citizens and permanent residents will be able to enter at first, and they will need to quarantine for seven days.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said individual states will have to achieve vaccination rates above 80% before flights can arrive in their airports freely.
Speaking during a televised media conference, Mr Morrison said: Its time to give Australians their lives back.
Weve saved lives. Weve saved livelihoods, but we must work together to ensure that Australians can reclaim the lives that they once had in this country.

Under the plan, Australians who are fully vaccinated will be able to travel abroad and complete a seven-day quarantine at home on their return.
People who are not vaccinated will be required to undertake 14 days of quarantine at a hotel when they return.

Mr Morrison said his government was working towards quarantine-free travel with countries such as New Zealand when safe to do so.
An Australian government source said plans were being discussed to allow foreign visitors to enter the country but it was not possible to yet state a timetable.
Australias international border closed in March 2020.
Since then, only a limited number of people have been granted a permit to leave the country for critical business or humanitarian reasons.
Australias strict border closure has been credited with keeping both fatalities and infections relatively low.
It has recorded just over 107,000 COVID-19 cases and about 1,300 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
The country on Friday reported 2,084 new COVID-19 cases, the bulk of which were detected in New South Wales and Victoria states.

The life of the rich and famous is something we all dream of having. From the glamorous parties and lavish houses to the restaurants they eat at and the places they vacation, theres something about their lives that has the rest of us intrigued.
Superyachts are one of those things the rich and famous usually flaunt, with the likes of Jay Z and Beyonce being snapped recently cruising on their 450 foot long, $2 million a week superyacht charter. However, with BorrowaBoat, you dont need to be rich and famous and you dont need to own an expensive boat you can just borrow it instead.
Below, well look at the yacht hiring experience and give you everything you need to know on a charter vacation.
Choosing the yacht
While hiring a yacht isnt just for the rich and famous, you do need to be realistic when it comes to budget. Its best to set a budget that you can afford before looking into which yachts you would like to charter as you could be swayed to go over budget once you start looking at them.
Besides the budget, other factors that should influence which yacht you choose include the countries youll be visiting and the climate there, your sailing ability if sailing it yourself and the level of comfort you would like.
If youre a first-timer then a catamaran is usually a good option as its two motors make it much easier to maneuver. A catamaran is also ideal for mooring just offshore with its shallow draught so you can enjoy the sandy beaches or lie back on the large deck space available.
For more experienced sailors, a multi-hull boat is probably a preferable option, however, its worth bearing in mind that it will cost more to keep in a port.
Image: Unsplash
Need for speed
When choosing your boat, you should also keep the purpose of your trip in mind. For those that enjoy sailing and being out at sea, a larger and slower boat will be best suited. Bear in mind that while these kinds of boats will have a large amount of living space, they can be tricky to maneuver into busy ports.
Generally, guests with young families will opt for a larger and slower boat as they provide more comfortable living space with plenty of home comforts.
However, if youre planning on stopping at multiple destinations then you should opt for a slightly smaller and more agile boat that can get you to destinations much quicker. Its worth noting that the faster the boat, the more fuel you will use so this should be factored into your budget.
Bareboat or Skipper
A bareboat is a boat that doesnt have any staff. If youre an experienced sailor who enjoys sailing then a bareboat is usually the best option, however, if youre less experienced or would like to sit back and relax more, then a skipper may be preferable.
Its also possible to arrange staff for your charter. As well as the skipper, a yacht crew is there to keep you safe and ensure you have a good time. Some of the types of staff people usually hire include a watersports instructor, a chef, waiting staff, and even a masseuse.
Image: Unsplash
When to book your charter
If youre wanting to go on a charter in the peak months; which are usually June, July, August and Christmas, and New Year, then its best to book at least 10 months in advance as these months can get very busy. If you have a specific date in mind, its worth even booking ahead of a year in advance.
Out of peak season, you will most likely be able to find your ideal charter with just 3 months notice. Some popular events to keep in mind that may affect yacht availability include the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix.
Image: Borrowaboat
How much experience do you need to go on a yacht charter?
In most places in Europe, its mandatory for at least one person on the boat to have a skipper license. In Greece, it is a requirement for a second person to have a skipper license too. This means you may need to consider that it will be mandatory to have staff on your boat if you have no sailing experience.
When chartering around the Mediterranean with a warm climate and calm seas, you will need less experience of sailing than when in a cooler climate with rougher seas. Its best not to get caught out in a storm.
Travel information
Its important to bear in mind that even though youre on a boat, there are still visa requirements for each destination you visit. You should check with your own governments travel advice before heading off on your charter to ensure everything is smooth sailing once you begin your yacht vacation.
Overall, a yacht vacation is much more accessible than people assume. Ready to try out the lifestyle of the rich and famous, minus the price tag? Get searching today!
