We make these treats every year to put in our cookie bags we give to neighbors. This year we used caramel and chocolate candies for an extra yummy bite. These treats are inexpensive, easy, yummy. Pretzels (any kind that can hold candy on top)
Rolo Candy
Holiday M&Ms
Recipe:
🥨Preheat the oven to 200*F.
🥨 Lay out the pretzels on a baking sheet.
🥨Add one rolo to each pretzel.
🥨Bake in the oven for 5 minutes.
🥨Push an M&M down on each rolo candy.
🥨Allow to cool.
🥨Enjoy!

🥧 Homemade Pie Crust 🥧
Happy Thanksgiving! Let’s celebrate by making homemade pie crust. Pie crust is pretty simple and has minimal ingredients. It is a fun way to personalize your pies this holiday season. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
Pie Crust:
1 1/4 c. Flour
1 t. Sugar
1 Stick Cold Salted Butter, cut in cubes
1/4 c. Ice Water
Recipe:
🥧Add your flour, sugar, & cold butter in a bowl.
🥧Using a pastry cutter (in my case butter knives & a fork) to chop the butter. Create a crumble.
🥧Add your ice water and mix with hands until you have a dough ball. You may need a little more water in the mixture won’t come together.
🥧Roll the dough out on a floured surface to fit in your pie dish. Cut the edges around the pie dish and get creative with your pie decorations!
🥧You can bake the pie at 425*F for 15 minutes. Make sure to poke holes in the bottom.
🥧You can then freeze the pie to use later.
🥧We filled the pie without baking it first. You do not need to poke holes in the bottom if you are doing it this way. We did a pecan pie and cooked the pie according to our pie recipe.

🍞 Bread in a Bag 🍞
Hey guys. We have a fun activity to do this holiday season - Bread in a Bag! This is a fun activity involving science, sensory, & math. Make memories squishing, kneading, and tasting our bread in a bag.
Ingredients:
1 c. Warm Milk
3 T. Sugar
2 t. Yeast
3 c. Bread Flour
1/2 t. Salt
Recipe:
🍞Preheat the oven to 375*F.
🍞Add your sugar, yeast, and warm milk to the bag. Allow this to sit for 5 minutes.
🍞Add your flour & salt. Tie off the bag. Squish the mixture until it starts to form a dough ball.
🍞Take your dough from the bag and knead on a floured surface.
🍞Let the dough rest for 5 minutes.
🍞We divided our dough into 2 loaves and placed into mini bread tins. This recipe will make 1 regular sized bread loaf or two mini bread loaves.
🍞Bake your bread for 20-25 minutes.
🍞Allow the bread to cool.

🥦 Broccoli Cheddar Soup 🥦
Broccoli cheddar soup is one of my favorites. It’s creamy and comforting. Loaded with broccoli and carrots this soup is a good way to get your kids to eat their veggies. Happy soup season!
Ingredients:
1 T. Butter
Yellow Onion, diced
1/4 c. Flour
2 c. Chicken Broth
2 c. Half & Half, heavy cream, or whole milk
3 c. Broccoli, coarsely chopped
1 c. Carrots, shredded
1/2 t. Kosher Salt
1/4 t. Paprika
1/4 t. Garlic Powder
1/4 t. Dry Mustard
1/4 t. Black Pepper
2 c. Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Recipe:
🥦Sauté onions with butter.
🥦Add flour & stir.
🥦Add in chicken stock & heavy cream. Bring to a light boil for 5 minutes. Turn the heat down to low.
🥦Add in broccoli, carrots, & spices. Stir and cover for 20 minutes to allow broccoli and carrots to cook.
🥦Take the pot off the heat and blend to desired consistency.
🥦Stir in the cheese.
🥦Serve with toasted bread.

One of our favorite “out to eat” meals is sushi. It is one of those meals that the restaurants just do better. My family wanted to learn to make our own sushi at home. What a fun family dinner where everyone participates and makes their own roll. This is our amateur attempt at sushi, but a very doable and simple way to enjoy all the flavors of your favorite roll. Make these rolls for dinner or lunch. With a little prep you can have one delicious bite! Enjoy!
Ingredients:
Roasted Seaweed Sushi Nori Wrappers
Calrose Rice, cooked according to package
Avocado, sliced
Cream Cheese, cut into long cubes
Purple Cabbage, sliced
Cucumber, cut lengthwise
Arugula
Sesame Seeds
Dipping sauce:
Soy Sauce
Ginger
Sesame Seeds
*Bamboo sushi rolling mat. Cover the mat in plastic wrap to avoid rice getting stuck in the mat.
Recipe:
🍱Lay your nori on the rolling mat.
🍱Cover nori with rice.
🍱Flip the nori. The rice should stick.
🍱Add your preferred ingredients. We did avocado, cream cheese, purple cabbage, cucumber, & arugula.
🍱Roll your sushi.
🍱Cut your sushi by first starting in the middle wiping your knife with each cut. Then taking that half and cutting in the middle until you are done.
🍱Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
🍱Make your sauce by mixing soy sauce, ground ginger, & sesame seeds.

We used a sugar pie pumpkin from our pumpkin patch to make pumpkin queso. This was a fun and delicious recipe that will become a fall tradition in our home. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 Sugar Pie Pumpkin
Olive Oil
1 Clove Minced Garlic
8 oz Sharp White Cheddar Cheese, freshly grated
4 oz Monterey Jack Cheese, freshly grated
1 t. Cumin
1 4.5 oz Can Chopped Green Chiles
Salt & Pepper to taste
1 c. Half & Half
Toppings:
Sliced Jalapeños
Chopped Cilantro
Recipe:
🧀Preheat your oven to 350*F.
🧀Cut the top off your pumpkin and scrape out the seeds and pulp.
🧀Rub olive oil and minced garlic inside the pumpkin.
🧀Add your grated cheeses to the pumpkin.
🧀Add the cumin and the chopped green chiles. Stir.
🧀Add the salt & pepper.
🧀Top it off with the half & half. Stir.
🧀Place the top back on the pumpkin and put on a baking sheet.
🧀Add water to the bottom of the baking sheet to keep the pumpkin from burning.
🧀Cook for 1 1/2 hours. Stirring every 30 minutes.
🧀Take the pumpkin from the oven and stir.
🧀Add your toppings & enjoy!

2 Eggs
1/2 c. Pure Cane Sugar
1/2 c. Light Brown Sugar
2 c. All Purpose Flour
2 t. Pumpkin Pie Spice
2 t. Baking Powder
1/2 t. Salt
For topping:
3/4 c. Pure Cane Sugar
2 t. Cinnamon
4 T. Melted Butter
Recipe:
🧡Preheat your oven to 350*F.
🧡Combine the pumpkin, melted butter, vanilla, eggs, and sugars.
🧡Add in the flour, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder, & salt.
🧡Add your batter to a piping bag.
🧡Pipe the batter into a donut pan.
🧡Cook the donuts for 12-15 minutes.
🧡While the donuts cook, melt the butter for the topping.
🧡Make the cinnamon sugar topping by mixing the cinnamon & sugar together.
🧡Let donuts cool.
🧡Dip each donut in the melted butter then in the cinnamon sugar.

🌿 Harvesting Basil Seeds 🌿
We had a wonderful basil patch in the garden this year. It is now time to harvest the seeds from the basil. All summer long I will pinch off the part of the plant that wants to go to seed in order to keep the plant growing. Towards the end of the season I let the basil plant go to seed and collect enough seeds for the next year. Enjoy!
How to:
🌿Pick the part of the plant that is brown.
🌿Each little pod had 4-5 seeds.
🌿Open the pod and gather the seeds.
🌿Place the seeds in an airtight bag with a paper towel and store in the refrigerator for the next year.

Okra is my favorite vegetable and is so easy to grow in your garden. We have had a steady supply of okra all summer. If we don’t eat the okra right away I will save my okra in the freezer. Fresh or frozen this pan fried okra is so delicious!
Ingredients:

Pepper
Recipe:

🌱Cut off the ends of the okra.
🌱Slice the okra in half.

🌶️ Jalapeño Honey Cornbread Muffins 🌶️
We made jalapeño honey cornbread muffins from the rest of our garden jalapeños. These muffins turned out great. You can pair them with a soup or eat with butter and a drizzle of honey on top. Enjoy!

1 c. Flour

1 t. Baking Soda
2 Eggs
6 T. Salted Butter, melted
1/2 c. Milk
1/2 c. Sour Cream
1/4 c. Honey
4 Jalapeños, diced with some slices for the tops of the muffins
Recipe:
🌶️Preheat the oven to 350*F.
🌶️Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix.
🌶️Grease a muffin tin with butter.
🌶️Add your batter to the muffin tins.
🌶️Place jalapeño slices to the top of the muffins.

🥗 Chicken Salad 🥗
Our chicken salad is one of my favorites. I will make it at the beginning of the week and have it for lunch, a snack, or sometimes for dinner. It packs well for traveling and is loaded with veggies, nuts, & fruit. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
2 lbs Chicken Tenderloins, baked & minced in a food processor
1/2 c. Celery, sliced
1 c. Red Grapes, sliced
1/2 c. Almonds, shaved
2 Jalapeños, diced
1 c. Mayonnaise
2 T. Stone Ground Mustard
1/2 c. Red Onion, diced
Salt, Pepper, & Garlic Powder to taste
Recipe:
🥗Bake the chicken with olive oil, salt, & pepper at 425* for 25 minutes.
🥗Mince the chicken in a food processor.
🥗Add all the ingredients to a bowl and stir until all the ingredients are incorporated.
🥗Serve with crackers, on a sandwich, or on a bed of greens.
