"This will be a day long remembered..."

Happy Star Wars Podcast Day! 🎉25 years ago today on February 7, 1999 three guys from Salt Lake City, Utah (Mark "Kal Thanos" Hendersen, Lucien "Darion Blade" Maier & Eugene "Lars Quillion" Cash) sat down to record the first episode of Jedi Talk.

The launch of their live weekly 'Internet radio show' was made available for folks to download/listen on computers & media players (in RealAudio format!!). The basis of our modern day podcasting was born.

Jedi Talk released ~140 episodes from February 1999 until September 2002. The word 'podcast' wouldn't come into use for another two years.

Who could imagine a quarter century later, we would have over 5000 podcasts covering every aspect of the Star Wars fandom? From the latest news, to collecting, to books, comics, gaming, cosplaying and more. It all began right there, a quarter century ago today.

Some shows, like SW en Direct Talk-show have been going strong for over 20 years, while others are pressing the record button and uploading for the very first time today. All of them share a love for the universe George Lucas created way back in 1977; and want to share that passion with others through the medium of audio.

This is our fourth annual Star Wars Podcast Day celebration. Over 100 Star Wars and related podcasts are celebrating the Star Wars fan audio community by releasing episodes today, and throughout the week.

Be sure to give them a listen. Discover participating shows by following the hashtags , & . Hopefully you will find a show or two (or 100!) to add to your regular listening lineup.

Nowadays podcasting is a part of mainstream culture, with millions of people around the world sharing countless hours with their favorite shows and hosts. Star Wars Podcast Day was created to celebrate the ongoing popularity of this little portion of our beloved fandom.

Thanks again, Lucien, Mark and Eugene. I bet you never realized what the three of you started a quarter century ago today.
