Reliance will host its first esports event called the JioMart Gameathon this month after watching from the sidelines for at least a couple of years. A Free Fire tournament will be the first in a series of events that the company plans to hold and will be conducted on the JioGames platform, claims a report. The Android-only JioGames announced — along with JioFiber set-top box — at Reliance Jio's 42nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) last year now has over five million downloads on the Google Play store.

The Free Fire tournament will be held from October 30 to November 1 and will have a live broadcast via YouTube and also via JioTV, according to an AFK Gaming report. It also says that the winners will be given prices from JioMart.

Registrations for JioMart Gameathon are open from October 26 to October 29 through the JioGames portal. According to its description, it will be a four-stage tournament starting with a qualifying stage on October 30 and 31, 11 am onwards. It will be followed up with the quarter-finals on Sunday, October 31, from 11 am to 3 pm semi-finals from 1 pm to 4 pm, and the grand finale from 5 pm to 8 pm.

A total of 576 teams will enter the qualifying stage divided between 48 lobbies and the top 2 teams from each lobby will make it to the quarter-finals. The 96 teams will then compete in 8 lobbies and the top three teams from each will reach the semi-finals. The 24 winning teams will battle in two lobbies in the semi-finals and six from each will advance to the finals. The grand finale will have a single lobby and 3 maps will be played to declare the winners. The registration page has details about the scoring system, in-game and device settings, and general rules.

SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son said on Thursday the sale of chip designer Arm to Nvidia Corp will drive growth in computing power, in his first public comments since the $40 billion (roughly Rs. 2,94,799 crores) deal was announced in September.

Son made the comments at a virtual summit about artificial intelligence hosted by Saudi Arabia, an anchor investor in the $100 billion (roughly Rs. 7,36,999 crores) Vision Fund, at which he reiterated his belief that AI would transform society.

The Nvidia deal, part of a series of asset sales by Son, whose group has been shaken by soured investments and the COVID-19 pandemic, has raised concerns it will threaten Arm's role as a neutral supplier in the industry.

Son is set to speak next week with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang at SoftBank World, the group's annual event for customers and suppliers that is being retooled as it focuses on investing.

"I am a risk taker," Son said on Thursday.

Rajeev Misra, CEO of SoftBank Investment Advisers which oversees the Vision Fund, said the market share gained by online commerce companies in the last six to eight months is more than what they gained in the previous four years put together.

"COVID has accelerated the acceleration of AI even further," Misra told the same conference, adding in the 105 companies Vision Fund 1 and 2 have invested in, artificial intelligence is the core of their businesses.

In a stern letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, the government has conveyed its strong disapproval over Twitter's misrepresentation of the Indian map for displaying a part of Leh, the largest district of the Union Territory of Ladakh, as part of China. The government has issued a warning to Twitter saying that any attempt by the micro-blogging platform to disrespect the country's sovereignty and integrity is totally unacceptable.

IT Secretary Ajay Sawhney in a strongly-worded letter said that such attempts not only bring disrepute to Twitter, but also raises questions about its neutrality and fairness as an intermediary. Twitter had shown the geo-location, “Leh in Jammu and Kashmir, People's Republic of China”.

The IT secretary, in his letter, has reminded Twitter that Leh is the headquarter of Union Territory of Ladakh, and that both Ladakh as well as Jammu and Kashmir are integral and inalienable parts of India, governed by the Constitution of India. Ladakh was carved out from Jammu and Kashmir and granted the union territory status on August 5 last year when the centre scrapped the special status and split it into two union territories: Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Twitter Starts Throttling Retweets for US Elections, Offers Workaround
The government has asked Twitter to respect the sensitivities of Indian citizens, and has also made it clear that any attempt by Twitter to disrespect sovereignty and integrity of India, which is also reflected by the maps, is totally unacceptable and unlawful.

India and China have been embroiled in a bitter stand-off along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) since May this year and several rounds of negotiations has not yet resulted in a resolution. The Chinese have refused to adhere to agreements on retorting status quo. India had recently handed back a Chinese soldier who had strayed across the Line of Actual Control (LAC) into eastern Ladakh after a request was received from the Chinese army about the soldier's whereabouts.
