The biogas industry kept busy to close out the end of 2024. The U.S. Treasury released final credit guidance for Section 48 Investment Tax Credits, which provided a tax discount for projects that refined biogas into renewable natural gas and began construction last year.

A final update to federal air pollution regulations for large municipal combustors has been delayed until December 2025. In a separate decision, the U.S. EPA also released overdue federal rules for commercial and industrial solid waste incineration, the first update for some facilities since 2000.

Waste and recycling collection was fourth deadliest occupation in 2023, rising up from seventh deadliest in 2022. Bureau of Labor Statistics data released today shows fatalities rose at MRFs as well as for other types of refuse and recyclable materials collection workers.

The latest Bureau of Labor Statistics data showed an increase in the rate of fatalities for the refuse and recyclable materials collection occupation. The total number of fatalities in MRFs also increased.
