Casella Waste Systems confirmed today it has acquired Whitetail Disposal, Inc. as well as LMR Disposal. The deals are expected to generate about $100M in annualized revenue.

The large independent hauler is expected to be purchased by Casella Waste Systems, according to multiple sources. Casella also recently acquired a hauler in New Jersey as part of its mid-Atlantic expansion.

Clean Harbors reported substantial growth in its environmental services sector after its acquisition of HEPACO earlier this year. During its Q2 earnings call, execs said the company was open to more M&A related to environmental services.

The company is undertaking several initiatives to address low base oil prices for its Safety-Kleen business. It continues to see growth in environmental services, however, and is open to more M&A on that front.

The U.S. EPA plans to issue a proposed rule updating air emissions standards for municipal solid waste landfills in 2025, the first update to Clean Air Act emissions standards since 2016. Environmental groups have pushed EPA for such an update.

The federal agency first hinted at the update in its regulatory agenda. Environmental and industry groups are now collaborating with the EPA on draft language for a notice of proposed rulemaking.

Waste Pro USA has received its first credit rating from Fitch, which it sought as part of its plan to refinance debt and continue long-term expansion plans.

Fitch noted Waste Pro’s strong presence in the Southeast and its residential and commercial contract stability. Waste Pro sought the new rating as it aims to refinance debt.

The U.S. Department of Energy will loan up to $182.6M to International Recycling Group for a large-scale plastics recycling facility in Pennsylvania, said to be one of the largest in the country when complete

The Pennsylvania project is expected to be one of the largest plastic recycling facilities in the country. It will mechanically recycle certain plastics and turn the rest into a coking agent for the steel industry.

The nonprofit recycler will install new optical sorters to decrease contamination and increase the recovery of select commodities. It estimates the upgraded facility will capture an addition 222 tons of PET and 248 tons of aluminum per year.

The Minnesota nonprofit aims to increase the amount of PET and aluminum it captures. The funding comes from a loan led by Closed Loop Partners and American Beverage as well as a grant from The Recycling Partnership.

The U.S. EPA has opened a civil rights investigation to determine whether Baltimore City and its public works department violated the rights of residents in predominantly Black and Hispanic neighborhoods. Its solid waste plan expects a nearby mass burn facility to continue operating, but environmental justice advocates say the plan should move away from incineration.

The EPA will investigate whether Baltimore City and its Department of Public Works violated communities’ civil rights with its waste plan, which preserves the city’s status quo with a WIN Waste combustion facility.

Marny Investissement has taken controlling stake in Anaergia, completing a $40.8 million deal. The company is also searching for a new CFO and is now allowed to begin trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange again after releasing its recent financial reports.

The company was able to secure Marny’s final round of investment after reporting financial results. CFO Andrew Spence has also resigned and founder Andrew Benedek was replaced in his role as chairman of the board.

LRS has recieved downgraded credit ratings from Moody's and S&P, but both credit agencies maintain a stable outlook for the Midwest waste company. LRS is also searching for a new CFO.

Moody’s and S&P both downgraded LRS in June due in part to high debt leverage, but they maintained stable outlooks. LRS is searching for a CFO after Luke Chenery returned to Macquarie.
