It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected and sudden passing of our beloved mayor, Angelo ‘Roncal’ Ortizo Montilla.

Mayor Roncal had tested positive for COVID-19 and was brought to a hospital in General Santos City. He fought but sadly succumbed to the virus at around 9:30 in the evening of June 6.
In the face of danger brought about by the pandemic, and despite the high risk it brings to his health condition, Mayor Roncal continued to physically report to work and be on the frontlines in our fight against this crisis, a testament to his leadership and passion to serve.

During this difficult time for his family and the entire city, we ask the public for prayers and unity.

Mayor Roncal will be remembered as a tireless leader who sacrificed his life in the name of public service. He is a true son of Tacurong. His legacy will live on.

President Rodrigo Duterte shares that former Secretary Jess Dureza, is one of the Pioneering spirits is behind all of the the peace process in the Philippines.

Dureza serves as presidential assistant of President Fidel Ramos for Mindanao and chairman of the Mindanao Economic Development Council. From 1998 to 2000, he served as the official spokesperson for the former president. In 2002, he founded the Advocacy MindaNow Foundation.

During the Gloria Arroyo administration, he was appointed as Chairman of the GRP Panel for Talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in 2003, Chairman of Mindanao Economic Development Council in 2006, Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process in 2008, Press Secretary in 2009, and Presidential Adviser on Mindanao also in 2009. His last appointive position with the Arroyo government was as Chairman of the Mindanao Development Authority in 2010.

He served as Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process of the Philippines under the Rodrigo Duterte administration from June 30, 2016 to November 27, 2018.
