Congratulations to Miranda Currie (Ep2) on this incredible honour. We are so stoked for her and for all the kids and communities who will benefit from the project she is working on. Amazing, but definitely not surprising! 🎉

May Davis Music is emerging from this pandemic with a lot to show for it. She's got a new single, a new music video, a new album, and even a new name. It's almost like she didn't spend the past year and a half watching Mare of Easttown and true crime documentaries and developing crippling social anxiety like the rest of us...
🎉
In this episode of The Marti Party, we celebrate the release of One Way Ticket and get a sneak peek behind the scenes of her latest project. We're also treated to a live performance featuring her signature smokey vocals, and we play a round of Taboo that just might be my most successful to date.
🎉
Her hot new single and stunning video are out now across all the channels, and her full album drops on July 17th. In the meantime, you can stay up to date on all things May Davis via her website (maggiemaydavis.com) or just take a walk down Mackenzie Avenue in Revelstoke, BC, and listen for the unmistakable sound of an angel that got hit by a whiskey truck. You can't miss it (nor should you).

EP4: ELLEN BRAUN
Ellen Braun was living her dream as a singer-songwriter. She had just spent a year making music in a bucket-list kind of way, from workshops in Nashville, Tennesse, to an artist residency at the prestigious Banff Centre, and her band, Trundled, was set to release a full-length studio album they couldn't wait to share. Things were HAPPENING... and then the world ground to a halt.

In this episode, Ellen talks about her experience coping with this loss of momentum and picking herself up off the floor (literally) to start all over again. She also shares a new tune and offers what is, perhaps, the most hilarious description of a bath I have ever heard. Come for the catharsis, stay for the belly laughs. This episode is a lot like therapy, but it's free and there's live music.

In spite of it all, Ellen does have some exciting irons in the fire and lots of creative things coming down the line, so give her a follow and stay tuned as the world begins to open up again. In the meantime, you can check out Episode 4 wherever you find great podcasts or just head on over to Marti Party HQ: https://www.themartiparty.com/1625953/8432609-episode-4-ellen-braun

Ellen Braun was living the dream as a singer-songwriter. She wrote and played with some of her musical heroes in Nashville, Tennessee, was invited to attend the prestigious Banff Centre's Writing Residency in her own backyard, and recorded and rel...

ICYMI: My favourite moment from last month’s chat with Tanya Boteju was learning about her roller derby name. If you have yet to check out Ep3 of The Marti Party with Tanya Boteju, I highly recommend adding it to this weekend’s to-do list. The full episode is up on the website and also available wherever you find great podcasts. 🎉

EP3: TANYA BOTEJU
Tanya Boteju is an author, an educator, and a fiercely devoted advocate for equity and diversity in literature (and in general). Her debut YA novel has been accurately described as Judy Blume meets RuPaul, and her much-anticipated second novel is hot off the press as we speak. She also happens to have the best drag king/roller derby name I have ever heard.

This episode of The Marti Party features an honest and insightful conversation with Tanya, as well as a reading from her latest book, Bruised (Simon & Schuster). We also play a speed round of Trivial Pursuit in which we attempt to pull useless information from the recesses of our poor, aged brains.

Tanya’s (virtual) book launch will take place on March 29th at 7pm (PST) and will feature local roller derby folks and a prize giveaway, not to mention the gift of celebrating this incredible writer and the work she does. Information about the event, including a link to register, can be found on Tanya’s website (tanyaboteju.com) 🛼

But who's counting...

Katie Marti is a virtual nobody who happens to know a lot of somebodies. The Marti Party is a quippy little culture podcast featuring intimate conversations and live performances by a wide range of Canadian artists and creative types. There will be music. There will be fun and games and probably swe...

EP2: MIRANDA CURRIE
Miranda Currie is on a mission to create northern indigenous content that is accessible to kids and families. Putting her trademark spin on traditional narratives, she uses music, film, and crafty storytelling to educate the rest of us about everything from sled dogs to s**t.

This sophomore episode of the Marti Party features an intimate conversation with Miranda, as well as a live performance of a track off her upcoming kids’ album, and a hilarious game of Hedbanz. (That’s actually how it’s spelled and I haaaaate it.)

Miranda has about a hundred things coming out at various times in the coming months, including a book, an album and a film. In the meantime, you can always find snippets and links to all things Miranda on her website (www.mirandacurrie.ca) and if you stay tuned right here, I’ll be promoting the bejeezus out of everything she does.

EP1: A Million Dollars In Pennies
While the rest of us spent most of 2020 baking sourdough, doom scrolling, and learning to play the flute, East-Vancouver folk-rock duo A Million Dollars In Pennies released a new album and adopted a baby. Typical.

The first ever Marti Party features a conversation with Mike and Stephanie Shaver, as well as a live performance of a track off their latest record, Decade In Spin, and a heated game of Taboo. Find it everywhere you find great podcasts!
