I've been right on the edge of burnout with studio work for a while. With other aspects of my life letting themselves be known, it's getting harder to keep a smile on my face when I need one, so as I wrap up the projects I'm currently working on, I'll be taking a much needed break.

I started Trepan Studios 6 years ago and much to my delight, I've been pretty consistently busy since. I've been booked solid for the last couple years now, but 2021 did a number on me. This year alone I've had the privilege of playing bass on and mixing the new Near Death Condition full length, I've tracked and mixed Archael and 9 Realms, I started in on the new Sarpa album, not to mention working on my own projects Exfiltraitor, Construct of Lethe, Bethledeign and Pain Tank...and for some reason I feel like I'm leaving some out. These were all initially scheduled to avoid much overlap, but life being what it is, that didn't really work out well. Several ran concurrently, which was pretty overwhelming, to say the least.

Anyways, I'll be around. I'll be neck deep in my own projects for a while, and at some point I'll be ready to start working for other people again, but right now I need some time to decompress and smell the roses. And update my fee schedule so I'm not working for less than minimum wage when I come back.

Last weekend tracking was wrapped up for the LORD side of their upcoming split 7" with Endmaker.

Tracked more vocals for the upcoming Gritfactor album yesterday...eight down, five to go.

This afternoon will be tracking more vocals for Grethor's upcoming massive LP/EP, slow but steady progress being made on that.

Next weekend will be vocal tracking for Gritfactor, Grethor and Affasia.

Hoping to start tracking guitars for Construct of Lethe's upcoming album early this summer.

Another long overdue update:

Tracking of rhythm guitars for the upcoming Grethor LP/EP combo has begun in earnest, hoping to have it done by the end of the weekend!

Drum tracking for Affasia's upcoming LP will begin next week, really looking forward to that!

Last weekend saw the beginning of vocal tracking for Gritfactor's upcoming album, four songs down, nine to go!

The remix of Construct of Lethe's debut album Corpsegod has been put on the back burner for the time being; in the meantime, Construct's brand new LP, Exiler is beginning final ground-up work. Drum tracking will be done by the incredible Kevin Paradis drummer of SVART CROWN starting the beginning of June, the rest of the tracking and mixing will be done here!

Pain Tank has some incredibly unique ideas for this coming year and will be chewing up a lot of Trepan's time in the most exciting way possible!
..Aaaaaand sorry to say Bastard Hammer's album is getting the bump again for the time being, but at least it's for very good reasons. Womp womp.

I haven't been updating like I should...lots of stuff to keep track of so far this year. The Construct of Lethe remix had to be put on temporary hold due to Pain Tank pretty much taking over my free time to rehearse and record their debut album 97,901,726 Confirmed Kills. It was recorded live in 8 hours, now it's mixed, mastered and out the door! Sounds totally savage!

The final mixes of LORD's new album Blacklisted are in my hands to master, that's what will be Trepan's primary workload until it's finished!

Jon Currle tracked final guitars to replace the scratch tracks I made for Gritfactor, they sound great! He's definitely got a style all his own, and it will be on full display soon! Grethor is still plugging away on their as of yet untitled LP+EP, and Affasia is still on deck. Tons of work completed, tons of work ahead! This is going to be a great year.

The remix of Construct of Lethe's Corpsegod is nearly finished, and it sounds better than ever. Not only are the solos out of this world, adding character sorely lacking in the original versions, the tone of the bass guitar has been coaxed out, and there's overall a much bigger, more powerful bottom end than before. Excited for people to hear it!

Affasia - Another Host - Demo

Today was good, I got to work with Affasia, putting down some scratch guitar tracks for their EP Adrift in Remorse. They're great guys, and can play on time, which is always a big plus. Oh, and they write killer music, too. Early 90's Paradise Lost wouldn't be too far off base as a descriptor; they're heavy, emotive and have juuust enough atmosphere to give a sense of gravity without throwing the brakes on things. Doing something a little out of the ordinary this afternoon: remixing an album that's less than a year old. Corpsegod, Construct of Lethe's debut album was tracked without a lead guitarist late last year; now that Patrick Bonvin is in the band, things are a little different. Patrick recorded some incredible solos for the album, and now I've got to fit them in. Shouldn't be too tall an order, except the urge is always there to keep trying to make the songs sound better than the original album, so against my better judgment, EQ, compression, levels are all getting tweaked. Luckily I'm consciously reining myself in and not making drastic changes, because the original sounded pretty damn good (if I do say so myself). Gotta know when to say when.

Guitars tracked for ten Gritfactor songs this afternoon! Feels good to be making progress on the project, it's tons of fun.

In other news, Patrick Bonvin has finished tracking solos for the remix/re-release of Construct of Lethe's debut album Corpsegod...mixing the songs as we speak!

Anthony Rouse was a trooper and tracked drums on the remaining seven songs for Grethor's upcoming LP & EP releases last night! All 13 tracks are crushing and inventive, and we got some great tones out of his kit to boot. Everything went about as smoothly as I could have hoped for, he was extremely well prepared and on the ball...I'm glad I got a chance to record with him! Looking forward to getting guitars and bass on these tracks!

Started tracking drums for the new Grethor LP two weeks ago--six songs down, seven to go. Editing them today to get a couple kinks out, and doing a preliminary mix on them to make tracking guitars and bass a little easier, then tracking again all day tomorrow.

Drums are completed for all Gritfactor songs, on to final guitars and bass next!

All tracking for Turbo Shokk has finally been completed, thanks to Hedras Ramos and his incredible session lead work...mixing begins soon!
