Jiminy Cricket, am I seeing things or does the Shattered Psyche showcase at the Teck Centennial library give off nightmare vibes?

Ghostly terrors and nightmares have taken over the TECK Centennial Library, because who needs quiet contemplation when you can have Shattered Psyche’s Traveling showcase featuring art by Sasha Q, Jang Guin Lim, and Marie Moldovan?

About the Artists….

Sasha Q:

Sasha Q (real name Oleksandra Stepanenko) and is an artist from Kyiv, Ukraine. Graduate of Mykhailo Boichuk Kyiv state academy of decorative-applied arts and design.
She was forced to flee her home, where she left her studio and body of work, due to the russian invasion in February of 2022, and currently lives and works in Toronto, Canada.

Sasha's art is an extension of her consciousness, an endless source of exploration of its mysterious nature, and a place of travel. The ability to
embody the product of one's consciousness in the form of art is the highest form of existence.. She always believed that meaningful art conveys images that only one's soul can decipher. If its core is unfakable then it has infinite power to change reality.

As a person living at the intersection of the analog era and times of deepening digitalization Sasha reflects on the metamorphoses in the world and her works are imbued with a surrealistic nostalgic vibe.

Jang Guin Lim:

Jang majored in fine art at Chung-Ang University in South Korea. He has an extensive background in video art, sculptures and painting. Jang believes that all his artwork should convey a message.

With his artwork Jang attempts to remove all limitations, and highlight social issues.

Marie Moldovan:

Saskatchewan's snow queen and Ontario's part-time dandelion, Marie Moldovan is a diploma-collecting, art-slinging force of nature. A Canadian Forces medic turned master of the canvas, their life reads like a quirky comic strip. Battling PTSD with a paintbrush, they are the Picasso of the Prairies, illustrating their way through life's blizzards.

Marie is the Author of Miss Sally Anne. Their book, Miss Sally Anne, isn't just a children's story; it's based on Marie's childhood experiences. Marie, nicknamed Sally Anne by classmates for wearing hand-me-downs and once kicked out of class for holes in their socks and pants, hopes to inspire anyone who has ever felt different, lonely, or misunderstood to embrace their uniqueness.

Olives are creeping onto the shores of Temiskaming public Library, but they're not the only ones sneaking in - Shattered Psyche is also slipping in unnoticed! This month's display is a celebration of Northern Ontario's artistic talent, starring Marie Moldovan and Cassie of Sweet Soul Design Studios.

A bit about the artists….

sweet Soul Design Studios:
Cassandra, or Cassie for short is a small artist from Canada who loves to create art, both traditionally and digitally. She began this interest at a young age, but it wasn't until her second year in high school that she had realized this was more than just a hobby, but a passion.
Her inspiration comes from things she feels strongly about such as movies, stories, tattoos, video games and the cute & creepy. Cassie’s goal is to one day use the skills they’ve earned as a career in tattoo and graphic design.

Big news, folks! I'm thrilled to announce that our Shattered Psyche Travelling Showcase has a shiny new display up and ready for gawking at Fotoshop and Spirit of the arts in New Liskeard, Ontario. It's a real treat, featuring the queen of bubble wrap Marie Moldovan and the delightfully dark contemporary gothic artist Marten Hoyle.

About the artists…

Marie Moldovan:

Marie Moldovan is a Saskatchewan native and Ontario immigrant. Some would call them a reverse snowbird, who feels most comfortable surrounded by snowcapped mountains.

Nomadic by nature, Marie is multifaceted and has mastered many skills. They dub themselves a jack of many trades and master of some. However, because Marie has acquired a plethora of diplomas spanning the educational spectrum, Marie’s mother on the contrary would call them a professional student.

Marie would accredit their adaptability to the training they received as a Canadian Forces medic, and their artistic ability to their family. Both attributes have aided her along her journey from the points of homelessness and despair to the place of stability and optimism she has arrived at today.

In 2018, Marie was diagnosed with service-related PTSD, and within the same breath of time became a widow.

Unresolved trauma, and the loss of their husband caused Marie to skirt the edges of insanity. Faced with losing complete touch with reality, they returned to writing and art.

In a sense writing and art saved Marie’s life, at least that’s their claim. Fortunately, for the world, Marie’s choice to embrace creation has led them to captain a new life as a publisher, illustrator, writer and artist.

Marie is the author of 20 years of Winter, Misss Sally Anne and has currently opened the doors of her own publication organization, aptly named, I Ain’t Your Marionette. Her book “20 Years of Winter” is an autobiographical collection of poetry and art. They published it in hopes to make a way for others who have suffered similar traumas to feel safe knowing that they are not alone nor are they to blame for their experiences. 20 Years of Winter is Marie’s source of empowerment offered to those victims to stand up to their perpetrators and to speak out against victim shaming.

Marten Hoyle:

The Marten Hoyle Project (the initials of which stand for Mental Health Problems) is the name assigned to a Literary Endeavor based in the psychological setting of the Eglantine Home for the Poetically Unsound in Mettray, USA. The Project is held anonymously by the Voice of a being known as Vate C. Carmen.

Hoyle suffers from the disease, schizophrenia but considers the Voice of “Vate C. Carmen” (a genderless hallucination which has been with him since earliest childhood) to be the source of his creative output.

Born on April 15th, 1988, in Spokane, Washington, Hoyle began writing at the age of six. He began writing poetry regularly at the age of fourteen when he discovered both the Holy Sonnets of John Donne and the musical achievements of Pink Floyd.

Hoyle has been consistent in his output of prose and poetical works for nearly thirty years. His first professional publication was an epic poetry trilogy titled Symphoniya de Toska that was released from Wheelsong Books in 2023, and later that same year his first novel, Voces Animarum was published by I Ain’t Your Marionette Press.

Consisting primarily of written works, The Marten Hoyle Project produces visual as well as musical media to accompany the compositional endeavors, which Hoyle considers to be “Literary Symphonies.” Voces Animarum is the first book in a series of such “symphonic literary movements” titled Filii der Bedlam, all of which are scheduled for future release from I Ain’t Your Marionette Press.

Known themes in the Literary Endeavor of “Marten Hoyle” include deep melancholy, suicidal ideation, death, loneliness, isolation, philosophical theory on the subjective nature of reality, and insanity. The works of Marten Hoyle have been compared to those of such literary giants as Edgar Allan Poe, Leo Tolstoy, H.P. Lovecraft, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Franz Kafka, and William Shakespeare.
