What I learned on the best trip of my life.
I left on this road trip through Banff in Canada, Glacier National Park, and Yellowstone National Park at one of the lowest times in my life. I felt stuck. I was asleep. I had had previous plans to spend the summer working at Glacier National Park that fell through and had planned this sort of two-week solo consolation road trip to make myself feel better. I left with no expectations and wasn't even really excited- just bored and wanting to get out of town for a minute to feel like I was doing something- anything.
What I found on this trip was... well. Everything. My laughter. My love for life. My clarity and inner peace. I found it where and when I least expected it, which is the key, I've realized. In the stunning colors of Yellowstone National Park, in the wilds of Glacier, and the blue waters of Banff, I found my way back to myself. I am not exaggerating when I say that this little road trip- the one I hardly planned, the one I didn't really care about, the one where I just sort of said "screw it" and left- changed my life.
I hope that you all find moments to reconnect, to spend time falling in love with yourself, to notice all the little things around us that make life worth living. Depression can be really tough, but sometimes the best thing you can do at your worst is step outside.
