I saw this meme earlier today and wondered of course if armadillos are bulletproof.
Short answer: Kinda.

Longer answer: Well, their armour (outer shell) is made of bone plates called osteoderm reinforced by a layer of keratin. Which makes for a very efficient defense against predators. Two species of three-banded armadillos can roll themselves into a ball, the bone plates then overlap and offer even more protection.

There have been several instances of armadillos having bullets ricocheting off their armour. So the armour offers some protection against bullets.
But it’s entirely possible to kill an armadillo by shooting it. Shooting it repeatedly or going for a higher impact will do the trick.

Still, the armadillo fares much better than most other animals against bullets.
Their armour are being studied as a model to create better body armour for
human beings.

Just don’t shoot them.
