Today's episode is about the War on Drugs. I start off with the history of illegal substances in the US, and then explore two different perspectives on how the War on Drugs started. One perspective is from Michelle Alexander, the author of The New Jim Crow, and the other is John Pfaff, author of Locked In. Additionally, I take a deep dive into the racist dog-whistle politics behind the War on Drugs. I finish speaking about what would happen if we decriminalized or legalized illegal drugs.

The already large racial wealth gap between white and black American households grew even wider after the Great Recession. Targeted policies are necessary to reverse this deepening divide.
