A third cruise ship was hired by World Cup organisers in Qatar on Monday to operate as a soccer fan hotel docked in Doha Port to add much-needed rooms for the tournament.

Geneva-based MSC Cruises announced the agreement only six weeks before the World Cup is scheduled to start on Nov. 20. The 1,075-cabin MSC Opera will be available from Nov. 19 to Dec. 19.

At a maximum capacity, all three vessels can accommodate over 13,000 guests.

Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has proceeded on terminal leave.

President William Ruto said health reasons had forced Mr Mutyambai to retire.

He later announced the nomination of Japheth Koome — the current Commandant of the National Police Service College in Kiganjo — as the new police boss, subject to vetting by the National Assembly.

The President was speaking today when he unveiled the Cabinet at State House, Nairobi.

Dr Ruto said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss George Kinoti had also resigned.

“We ask the National Police Service to advertise the position,” he said.

UPDATE: Thwake Multi-Purpose Dam in Makueni is Now 80% Complete... This Project which is being built on the boarders of Makueni and Kitui Counties is meant to be a multipurpose dam that will serve 3 Ukambani Counties with Clean Water for domestic use, Agricultural Irrigation Water, Hydropower, and other Water Supply Infrastructure.

The project which is currently employing close to 5,000 local people directly into the dam construction, is also supporting local industries through sourcing of construction materials such as cement, steel and fuel for the construction of the dam.

Earlier in the year a section of Athi River was diverted into two giant tunnels to enable excavation work for the rock field dam wall (87m) and installation of the spillways for excess water flow.
