HFL News:
Landing soon on the Hacklog website will be a preview of the top five (projected) teams in the Hackson Football League: Here's a raw text look:
With the HFL set to start its inaugural season, its time for us to detail the expectations. Here, we will cover what should be expected to happen on various subjects throughout the league, before the season begins.
Axel’s (Possible) Top 5 Teams on Paper:
• Brooklyn Barons
• London Monarchs
• Columbus Caps
• Detroit Lions
• Toronto Thunder Birds
Why?
Brooklyn Barons: With a compliment of high-level talent such as Johnny Manziel, David Johnson and Orlando Brown at left tackle, the Barons should compete (if Manziel can stay off the sauce). Where they could struggle is on the back end of the defense. They made a nice Mercenary draft pick of Gareon Conley, who’s come along nicely in a decent cornerback unit, but the safeties look weak.
London Monarchs: Look, Mike Vick may not be the Vick you remember, but he’s still Michael Vick—and in this league, speed can kill with a lower average of player speed on defense than more talented leagues. On that score, any running QB should thrive—Vick is one of the most legendary runners. Even at his age, he could blow by people. Add to this a healthy number of 75+ overall players across the roster, including two very solid impact safeties in Kyle Dugger and Hero-Pick Jeremy Chinn, and this has fantastic potential
Columbus Caps: The Caps were one of the teams that benefitted from having a pretty swell QB on their base roster in Sam Darnold. He wasn’t a hero or mercenary pick, at just 70 overall, but he should be able to come into his own, finally, against this level of competiton. The fact that they got a starting QB with his upside without expending a pick means that those picks go elsewhere. Enter Mechi Becton, who has experience with Darnold and has a chance to be the best LT in the league soon, along side a roster with veteran former NFLers on the o-line. Add in a talent like Denzel Mims, and a very strong 1st round pick in the rookie draft in Linebacker Jayden Olsen (taken 13th overall)
Detroit Lions: The Lions made it out of the founding draft sitting well. They snagged the best RB in the league in James Robinson as their hero pick, who’s already ballooned in overall over the off-season and pre-season. His 89 overall has no peer on most defences or otherwise. Not only that, the Lions rolled the dice on a legendary Mercenary—Aged Brett Favre, who wanted one last reason to suit up. Favre, even at his age, should be elite in this league, but he will have to stay healthy. The lions are top heavy, sure, but what a top it could be, and its surrounded by a healthy slew of players above average in the 70s in the HFL.
Toronto Thunder Birds: The only team who’s hero pick went unselected, and thus, remained with them, was the Thunder Birds. As a result, they were able to make their hero selection, and keep one, giving themselves two X-factor talents with youth and ability. Those come in the form of QB Tua Tagovailoa (currently rated as the second best QB in the league, behind 1st overall hero Baker Mayfield to the Memphis Egyptians), and David Montgomery, who ranks as the 3rd best RB in the league as well. Add to that weapons like John Ross and maulers like Richie Incognito, and this is a team that could challenge for the Hackson Trophy.
