In September, my lawyer and I were at Alagbon to report a case. While waiting for the ACP, we saw this man that was in police custody for stealing company funds. His lawyer and his wife were running around.
The CSP briefed us. Apparently, this man started working in this company as their accountant or whatever in March this year. His account balance before he started that job was 3k. Three thousand naira. The job paid him 75k or thereabout monthly.
I want to reiterate that this man was so poor before he started this job sotey he had just 3k in his account.
This man started working and every week, he'd transfer 100k from the company's account to his personal account. Since he was in charge of the company's account, he'd delete the debit mails and texts.
Again, 100k every week from the company account to his.
He didn't even try to be smart about it. Matter of fact, he started stealing the very next week after he was employed. The company printed out their statement of account from March till September and found out he already started stealing even before he was paid his first salary!
Like play like play, oga had embezzled over 3 million from a company he'd worked for for less than 6 months.
Company found out and had him arrested. He denied. Got himself a lawyer and didn't tell him the truth. His wife came and was screaming and shouting that she'd call human rights activists cos her husband was being falsely accused. The oponu didn't tell even his wife.
The man kept denying and swearing by Jesus.
It was till the company brandished their statement of account that he calmed down. His lawyer left him and abandoned the case. His wife was so ashamed and was crying.
That day we met them there, she had gone to get him a new lawyer.
The police asked the man how much he stole. He said 800k. Then later said 1.5M. Then later said 2M. Then finally said 3.4M.
Oya repay the money so you'll go. He had finished spending it. E remain make the wife fall down and die. Realising that not only are you married to a thief, this particular thief stole over 3M and not 1naira entered their home.
I was just watching her move up and down aimlessly. Trying to beg, looking for sureties, talking to the lawyer, talking to the police, etc.
I couldn't find out what later happened cos we had to go see the assistant commissioner but I felt so so so sad for her.
She obviously won't leave him.
She will still stay married to that thief/potential ex convict
And best believe, she will be the one to repay that 3.4 million cos the husband no get shishi for his account.
Odiegwu really.
