AURORA MAN FACES ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE AFTER STRANGLING, TWICE STRIKING VICTIM IN HEAD WITH HAMMER
Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser has charged 22-year-old Johnathan T. McDonald with the offenses of:
• Attempt first-degree murder, Class X felony
• Aggravated battery/great bodily harm, Class 1 felony
• Aggravated battery, Class 3 felony, 2 counts
• Unlawful restraint, Class 4 felony
Kane County prosecutors allege that the evening of Nov. 20, 2021, McDonald entered the victim’s residence, struck the victim in the head with a hammer, demanded money, and then strangled the victim. The victim lost consciousness several times during the encounter. McDonald is known to the victim.
Kane County Judge David P. Kliment set McDonald’s bail at $250,000 with 10 percent ($25,000) to apply for bond. McDonald’s next court appearance is set for 9 a.m. Nov. 30 in Courtroom 313 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
The charges against McDonald are not proof of guilt. McDonald is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The Aurora Illinois Police Department conducted the investigation.
