So much of what we think we know about Afghanistan has been written by its invaders, and this is a problem. The real reasons behind the current crisis Afghanistan is facing are convoluted, but we did the research so you don’t have to.

A helpful reminder 🕊
Let’s always take the time to check up on those around us, and to check in with ourselves. It’s important to listen to those who speak with lived experience and it’s as important to give them the space to do this in their own time.

A government that falls in a week is no government at all. The current leader of the Taliban was freed from a Pakistani jail at Trump’s request three years ago.

Use your voice, speak up! Our leaders serve us, and we have the power to influence their decisions with the noise we make, share as widely as possible!
No Afghan wants to leave their country. No person happily leaves their homeland as they watch it descend into chaos, leaving behind friends, family. A community, a history.
The Afghans forced to leave now are the ones who stayed through everything, pulled between forces using their land as a battleground for the last 40 years.
When visiting Afghanistan our writer noted that nobody ever asked her how it was living abroad, or expressed any interest in leaving their country. People become refugees to survive.
Some excerpts from our article this week. Had you ever heard of religious trauma? Link in bio to read. 🕊
“For myself, and many of the young Muslims I grew up with, our biggest struggle was in the way we were taught about punishment, death and consequence. We were exposed to religious figures who relied on fear-mongering and unquestioned rigidity to keep us in line. They constantly reinforced the level at which Hell should be feared, while neglecting the all-important teachings of God’s mercy, kindness, compassion and love of repentance.”

In this piece we break down religious trauma through the lens of a young Muslim. Calling it the Isr*li-Palestinian conflict is the same as if we called it the British-Aboriginal conflict 160 years ago. Be on the right side of history.
Anyone sharing videos of what's happening in Gaza right now is being blocked on Instagram and Facebook.
Our posts have had surprisingly lower engagements than usual, the only reason they’ve been seen is because you all are sharing. Continue to share content that is informative, respectful and empowering of the resistance.

"Living in a space where remembrance of God is not widely accepted or prioritised has deeply injured the way I practice Islam. Ramadan offers us the chance for a spiritual reset."
This piece breaks down why we fast, and why we should endeavour to reject what Western knowledge structures have taught us about our own spirituality.

The lack of education around r**e culture perpetuates an environment where women are constantly in danger of sexual violence.

So, why do we reject creativity? Simple. There's no certainty in it. It's HARD. And it's subjective.
Creativity is a complex skill to learn, because it requires vulnerability, patience and flexibility-- personal security and openness.
So you just go for it!!!! To help you along your journey, read the piece "I'm Not a Creative Person". There's a cute (and easy) activity in there for you at the end. Enjoy!

Australia has a bad habit of looking outside of its borders for culture. We also have a bad habit of tokenising diversity, ticking small boxes and carting it off as inclusion. We need to start fighting for radical inclusivity and accessibility in the arts- our arts. It's only when we start truly valuing the lived experience of 'others' in the mainstream sphere, that we will start achieving equality. Read the piece now to be inspired, and support your local artists and creatives!

Keep showing up to a protest, keep amplifying Palestinian voices and history, keep calling your MPs. You asked for a ceasefire, now fight for it.
Let’s not forget, this is what should come to mind when we think of Palestine. It’s not normal to see Palestine as just rubbles, tears and bodies. What we are seeing should be shocking to our system. We fight for a free Palestine.
