Well, this week's Shades Of Blues was an adventure.
The system crashed after the first song, but I got it up and running again quite quickly (well done me 😎) Because of that, and the odd senior moment (I'm 60 now you know) there wasn't a lot of talkie time.
However, what there was more than made up for it.
An interview with Albert Cummings. Tracks from his most recent album, "Strong", and some gems from the archives.
All in all, I think I got away with it 😉

I met up with Joe Louis at the International Blues Challenge, and we intended to record an interview but, as you might know, Fate had other ideas.
We did, however, catch up after I'd returned to the U.K.

I’ve got an iPod Classic that hasn’t been used for years.
Some time ago I couldn’t connect to iTunes, so went to an Apple Store for advice. The young chap who served me looked at it in puzzlement. “I’ve never seen one of these” he said.
Feeling very old, I went home and searched online. It appears that Apple regarded this bit of tech as ‘obsolete’ so it can’t be updated.
However, a friend told me he still uses his by importing music via a file exchange, instead of iTunes.
I thought I’d give it a go, so charged up the old beast.
Unfortunately, I get the Apple logo, but can’t get any further.
Does anyone know how to revive one of these wonderful bits of kit?

Congratulations to the Blues Foundation, the people of Memphis, and all the acts for ensuring this year’s IBC happened, despite severe circumstances.
It has to be said, though, only one act in the finals from outside the U.S. and he spent nearly as much time talking, as he did performing.

I’ve been very self absorbed with my posts about what I haven’t been able to do, and the things I’ve missed.
Spare a thought for the others, like my travelling companions.
It was on their bucket list to visit Graceland and, having endured the same tribulations as me, they discover it’s closed because of the weather.
I hope they get to come back in the future (in the summer time)

The standard of musicianship here is outstanding, as you’d expect.I’d hate to be one of the judges.Good luck to everyone...

Stuck in Chicago for two days because of cancelled flights. ✈️
Can’t get down to Beale because the hotel shuttle won’t risk it on the icy roads, no taxis (?), and the sidewalks are a death trap. ❄️
Now I’m in my hotel room popping cold capsules, because my head feels like it’s going to explode. 💊
Not the trip I’ve been looking forward to for 8 months 😰

As part of the IBC they have an event where artists can meet established musicians, marketing people, and others from the blues music industry, to get advice, or even collaborate.
Admittance is by registration only, so I enquired if it was too late to register.
“An email was sent out to all musicians”
“I’m not a musician. I present a radio show back in the U.K. I’m a broadcaster”
“Oh. Well, you’re not part of the industry”

Just been trying to do the show.
The mic had connected, but there was nothing being broadcast, so I've had to give up, and just fill the show with music.
Apologies for anyone that tuned in.
I don’t know what the issue is, or how to rectify it.
Hopefully we can get it sorted before next week.

Just been down to Beale to get my pass, and it’s shocking how quiet it is, compared to previous visits.
Hardly anyone around, and some of the places are closed.
Not how I envisioned it.

Just checking out the kit to do R&R live later, and the broadband seems a bit slow, so I’m going to have to find alternatives soon.

OK people. It's drawing ever closer.
The time when I fly out to the IBC in Memphis.
While I'm there I'll be trying to meet as many people as possible from all corners of the globe, and that means catching up with old friends, and acquaintances.
If you're going to be in Memphis between 15th and 20th of January, let me know, and we could hook up some time.
After the excitement of that, I'm heading to Nashville for a few days, so if you're going to be in Music City between 21st and 25th of January, let's share a drink or two.
I look forward to seeing you there.

New year's resolution - 2024 I'm going to be on top of this.
