Wait for the surprise…
We didn’t know what to expect out of this experience.
I figured we’d get to do something outside of the norm, make some cool connections, and @schwalb and I would get to spend quality time together.
What we didn’t expect was the KINDNESS & INSPIRATION.
Every single person we met that day were SO kind, SO welcoming, and SO passionate about what they did.
As two business owners ourselves, it was honestly super refreshing to see an ENTIRE company love what they do.
@songfinch started in 2016 and after asking their owners “how did you create this amazingly successful company where everyone loves their jobs and are just SUCH good people?”
They said simply, “It just took time”
@dani_stacy has been playing and writing songs since she was 13. She shared her journey with us and how hard it’s been, but she NEVER gave up.
So let their stories be motivation to you.
It takes time to build a successful business and career ❤️
If SongFinch would have given up in those early years, we wouldn’t have the ability to create AMAZING custom songs for our loved ones, I may have never heard Dani’s beautiful voice, Ryan and I wouldn’t have given each other those songs, and this (not to be dramatic) life-changing day wouldn’t have happened.
To Songfinch. Thank you 🫶
What you have built is SO cool. You are giving musicians a chance to turn their passion into a living and giving the rest of us THE MOST unique gift to give our family and friends.
There is so much bad going on in the world right now, so to give us this amazing day spent with great people was something we will never forget.
To Dani - Thank you 😭😭😭
This is JUST the beginning for you. Your voice hits people in their souls. You could be SOOOO mean. But you’re not. You’re funny and genuine and loving and sweet. And we wish NOTHING but continued success!
OKAY SO IS EVERYONE CRYING WITH ME NOW OR WHAT? 😂

A note for business owners at the end ❤️
Listen, I get it.
I understand how hard it is to put so much time and effort into creating content and working on your marketing then not getting the views, the follows, the likes, etc.
It’s super annoying.
And when I lost 2,000ish followers, I wasn’t thrilled.
When you work in my field and do what I do, it’s hard not to be extremely focused on account growth.
I have worked REALLLLLY hard on separating my business growth from my Instagram account growth and I know that without that shift, I would have overworked myself and burned out.
And to reach what goal? 25k?? 50?? 100k? More? What’s the end goal? It seems with follower growth that once you hit one goal amount, you’re slapped with “welp, now you need to hit the next goal!”
It never ends.
So while I understand (I’ve been in social media since 2015 remember!) that account and community growth could and can lead to business growth, it’s not ESSENTIAL for that to happen.
But follower growth with the RIGHT people?
Ooooh doggie, that is where things can really take off 🚀 🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀
So if you’re not getting the views you want, the follower growth you want, etc…check in on your business.
If it’s doing great, JUST HAVE FUN HERE 💃🥳
If it’s not doing great, my suggestion is to focus more on connections and networking here than trying to content-create your way to a successful business…because it takes MORE than just content to get the results you want.

Okay so now you know WHY you should share an FAQ but now I’m going to tell you HOW.
Talking to camera (like I did) is a great way to answer a question you get a lot! You can use analogies, storytelling, and examples to help you explain your answer.
Starting off with the question in quotations as the headline of your caption OR using it as the first text box inside your Reel is a great way to capture the attention of people who need the answer.
You can also grab some BRoll and use a text format like this on your Reel:
“When ______ (clients, customers, people, etc) ask me ‘___________’(the question) , I tell them ____________ (your brief answer)”
Then expand and explain more in the caption!
PLEASEEEE PRETTY PLEASE do not say “Wanna know how to _______?……..” then make us read the caption. You gotta give us SOMETHING! You can always explain more in the caption!
Hope this was helpful!

What most business owners WON’T do ⤵️
Fail.
Specifically with their social media content.
They follow other people in their field getting big numbers (without really knowing if they’re bringing in $ but that’s a whole other topic 🙃) and they don’t get why they aren’t.
They try to do what they do.
That doesn’t work because they’re not the same.
Their lives aren’t the same, their businesses aren’t the same, their schedules aren’t the same, etc.
Then they get mad when the numbers aren’t SOARING every single time they post a Reel.
Instead of thinking “hm I wonder why this didn’t perform well?”, they blame the algorithm or claim whatever hack or tip they tried to implement is bogus.
This leads to burn out, frustration, and hating the app.
I don’t want that for you.
What you do, WHATEVER IT IS, you are meant to be doing it.
AND Instagram is a great place to market whatever that is.
My challenge to you this summer is to TEST.
To TRAIL & ERROR.
To throw some different stuff out there, content that feels right, intuitively sharing content that feels GOOD to share, NOT because someone told you to share it.
Ultimately, I want you to start being okay with failing.
👌 Be okay with low numbers and no comments.
👌 Be okay with no conversion.
👌 And stop being so emotionally attached to your analytics and just LEARN from it.
This is the only way you’re going to find out what your TRIFECTA content is.
TRIFECTA CONTENT:
1️⃣ Content that performs well
2️⃣ Content that converts for your business
3️⃣ Content you ENJOY sharing
YOU CAN DO THIS!

➡️ If you need help creating a strategy, comment IG101 and I’ll send you a promo code for my course!

You’ll want to save this for 2 reasons 😂
1️⃣ It’s summer and this is THE BEST WAY to cut up watermelon, especially if you’re taking it to a gathering or have kids. Easy to grab, less messy, no utensils needed…👌👌👌
2️⃣ It’ll remind you that the less complicated your educational content is, the better it will perform.
I know I say this a lot but, we do NOT know any of the things you know.
That’s why we know our stuff, and you know your stuff. And that’s BEAUTIFUL that we can all help each other with different things.
But if your educational content (tips, hacks, how-to’s, etc) is not performing well, more than likely it’s going over our heads 🙃
EXAMPLE:
I wouldn’t say “here’s how to write a bio to help you convert followers to clients” because that would be a masterclass.
BUT I could say “adding your location to the NAME FIELD (not your handle, the bold part of your bio with your name) will help your account get viewed by a local audience.” THEN in the caption I’d say step by step how to add that ONE thing to your bio.
That’s it.
Are there more things to share? Absolutely.
But when we feel FLOODED by information, we immediately put a wall up. And in Instagramland, we’re constantly trying to gain trust and tear those walls down.
You think you’re being helpful AND YOU ARE, but it’s just too much.
Do less.
If you think “this may be the silliest thing I’ve ever shared. People in my field are gonna be like ‘whyyyy is she posting that?’. Everyone HAS to know this already.”, it’s probably gonna be the best performing content you’ve had in a while.
Let me know if you’re going to try it out and report back!
Need help with all this stuff? Messaging and learning how to speak to YOUR ideal client/customer is exactly what we’ll be teaching at the @socialsquadsociety Day One Conference in Indy this October!

It’s the rules I live by 🤷♀️
More often than not, the content I’m most nervous to share is the content that performs the best.
And the content I rushed to post just to get something out? It never performs well.
One Reel or post shouldn’t make or break your business. If it does, you need a more holistic marketing strategy 👌
That’s all! Hope that helps ❤️
Shorter content for summer, are we digging it or nah?

OTHER Reels analytics to look at ⬇️
➡️ Go to Professional Dashboard, tap Content you shared, where it says “All” tap and switch to “Reels”. (if you haven’t posted any Reels in the last 7 days, toggle your time frame to longer and it’ll show up!)
➡️ Tap the lines and balls at the top left to change metrics.
➡️ Toggle to see your top 3 Reels from these categories: Saves, Shares, and Reel Interactions.
Why not views?
While this gives you a clear picture on how many people watched it, it doesn’t give you the FULL picture…especially if you’re a business owner.
I look at Saves because it shows me that this content was so impactful, people wanted to save it to watch again OR they enjoyed that kind of audio and wanted to use it for themselves later.
I look at Shares because it shows me that this content was so impactful, people wanted to share it with others or to their stories.
I look at Reel Interactions because it gives the FULL picture (likes, comments, etc) of how much interaction the Reel received, and not just one metric.
Another metric that’s not in your insights that I BEG YOU TO CHECK FIRST is how your business is doing.
❓ Are you booked out?
❓ Are you getting DMs inquiring about your products or services?
❓ Are you still making sales?
Then you don’t need to be looking at views, babycakes!
So while your views may be down, don’t let it get YOU down.
Insights are tricky and it’s hard to know what to look at (numbers scare me too!) which is why we created an amazing Insights training inside the Social Squad Society all about it!

SAVE & SHARE WITH A FELLOW BUSINESS OWNER 👌
So you want to be here less, but not sure HOW to do that and still see results? I GOT YOU!
If you’re a business owner trying to “grid content” your way to making your IG efforts worth it, you’re gonna be really frustrated.
I see SO many business owners focused SOLELY on Reels or grid content creation, which leads to them being on the app MORE, & then they wonder why they’re making no sales.
If this is you, your focus is too narrow when it comes to Instagram marketing.
When you create LESS grid content and focus MORE on relationships, you don’t have to do as much 🤷♀️
To do this, steal my two MAJOR relationship building moves:
1️⃣ Focus more on stories
People continue to sleep on stories which BLOWS my mind. Stories give your audience a DIRECT connection to you since each one has a message bubble for them to respond to OR quick reactions where they literally just tap a button to hop into your inbox. It’s easier for your audience to connect with you that way than commenting publicly on your grid content.
2️⃣ Tag other businesses in your stories
This is mind boggling to me. If I was a new business owner, I would tag EVERY SINGLE BUSINESS I USE, FREQUENT, AND LOVE EVERY DAY. (sorry for shouting)
Products? “Obsessed with this new blush from ____ (insert handle here)! I heard about it from ____ (insert friend’s handle here) & they weren’t wrong!”
Facials? “Thanks for the hydrafacial _____ (insert handle here. I’d tag @skincare.byash DUH)! Everyone in ____ (city) needs to treat themselves to one!”
Restaurant? “I loveee the sushi from _____ (insert handle here)! It’s my go-to here in _____ (city)!”
➡️ Then they re-share.
➡️ Then you get exposed to THEIR ENTIRE AUDIENCE. And YOU ARE EXPOSING THEM TO YOURS.
Literally everyone wins 🏆
If you pull back a little on Reels creation (PLZ don’t post 3 a day, you don’t need to) & focus more on buildi
YOUR Lazy Guide to Reels Prep ⤵️
I know I explained this inside the Reel, but I know problems will arise and you won’t be able to do this AS SWIFTLY as I do because this ISN’T your zone of genius, and THAT IS OKAY.
REMINDER: you aren’t supposed to automatically know what you’re doing here. It’s intuitive to me AND I have been doing it for 9 years. It is why I have a job.
You are in the majority, I promise.
SO let’s give some cushion to these steps:
1️⃣ Think of your current business goals & topics
Kay. This one should be easy and doesn’t really need much explaining BUT if you want to stay ahead of the game, create content for business goals that are happening 2-3 weeks ahead-ISH.
If you’re launching in 2 weeks, don’t wait 2 weeks to create content for it. Start creating NOW so your audience is primed and ready to purchase!
2️⃣ Find the audios you want to use
PLEASE KNOW THIS: You never HAVE to use a trending audio or early trending audio. Ever. BUT if you want to capitalize on using a trending audio, try to use it on the way up OR consume on TT to see what’s gonna come over here on IG soon!
I’d stick with anything from 600ish-3500ish uses, but again, this is just from doing what I do. Not SET IN STONE rules here that have been proven!
⭐️ BONUS: Pair the audio with a video OR if you have time, record them and then save them in drafts.
Not sure WHAT to use as the video? Look at the high performing Reels using that audio and see what they’re using.
Is it a POV video of someone walking, is it a panning shot from left to right of a nook in their house, is it a video of them making a certain face reacting to the audio? Whatever that is, re-create it!
You don’t have to batch content to get consistent with Reels, but doing this lazy “meal prep” every Sunday or Monday can be SO HELPFUL!
Don’t want to meal prep and just get audios and ideas every Monday? Comment SSS10 and my lil robot 🤖 will send you
Don’t let Reels views ruin your day ⤵️
I know, it seems like with my emotional dysregulation due to my ADHD that this would be the EXACT thing that would set me off, but it doesn’t 🤷♀️
(I save that for other important things like thinking my friends hate me because they didn’t use punctuation in their text 🫠)
But I think I’ve figured out why:
🦕Most of it comes from experience.
I have been posting regularly for my business or others since 2015. If I did a downward spiral every time piece of content didn’t perform the way I’d like it to, I’d be longgg gone 🤣✌️
📈 Some comes from knowing how to dissect my analytics.
Just like I’ve been posting regularly for 9 years, I’ve also been looking at Insights on Instagram for that long as well. I know what matters and what doesn’t and since my focus has ALWAYS been on business growth and not necessarily account growth, I know what to look at and what to brush off.
❤️ And the rest comes from emotionally detaching from my analytics
Although I am SUPER sensitive…I have trained myself to not get upset with my own stats. I love looking at them, because it’s part of my job, but I don’t let them anger me.
I continue to use Insights as a tool, but I also recognize that that’s all they are.
➡️ If my engagement is low, I probably haven’t been engaging enough myself.
➡️ If my hashtags don’t perform well, I’ll try a different set next time.
➡️ If a Reel doesn’t take off, I’ll do it differently next time and see if that works better.
I take note, learn from it, and move on.
So it is NOT from lack of caring.
I want to create content that helps my ideal client FINALLY understand how to pair their IG strategy with their business goals OR serves that business owner who is struggling OR helps entrepreneurs feel less alone in entrepreneurship.
I care SO MUCH that I refuse to let Reels views dictate my mood or lead me to imposter syndrome.
Instead of JUST views, look at this ⬇️
(Also S/O to @brittneybatla ‘s stories last week for inspiring this Reel! Follow her for amazing IG tips 👌)
OKAY, here’s what to do:
➡️ Go to Professional Dashboard, tap See All, and scroll down to the Reels section. (if you haven’t posted in the last 7 days, toggle your time frame to longer and it’ll show up!)
➡️ Tap the arrow like this > next to it to open insights on your Reels from the last year.
➡️ Toggle to see your top 3 Reels from these categories: Saves, Shares, and Reel Interactions.

Here’s how to start converting ⤵️
NOW, before I get into it…the solution may just be that you need some help 🤷♀️
As someone who does NOT like asking for help with ANYTHING, I get the struggle.
If you HATE social media ➡️ hire a social media manager.
If you kinda like it and want to be better at it ➡️ get 1:1 support, take a course, watch YouTubes, download freebies, or join a membership (like the @socialsquadsociety !)
If you know how to do it all and your content isn’t landing, it’s a messaging problem ➡️ hire a brand strategist or copywriter to get that on LOCK.
NOW, if you’re just not there yet, what can you do TODAY to set yourself up better for conversion?
I got you.
1️⃣ Find your most engaging content & moves on IG, and double down.
Is it stories that get those conversations going? Is it Reels that are funny but then teach in the caption? Is it sharing other business’s content to your stories and tagging them which starts conversations that lead to referrals?
WHATEVER it is, figure it out. And double down.
2️⃣ Stick with your strategy longer 😆
I say this with LOVEEEE (AND need this reminder for myself often with other things), but you need more patience when it comes to testing strategies here. Once you have a plan that feels good, give it a month to test, check the analytics, see what does well, and readjust for the following month.
I see so many business owners trying one thing, deeming it terrible, and trying something new the net day. Give it just a BIT longer and you may be surprised!
3️⃣ Collab and connect with people who have the audience of who you want to support and serve
I know a content hack or magical hashtag tip is what FEELS better, but I promise you, I don’t bring this up every chance I get for no reason. Exposing yourself to audiences of people who need you THROUGH other businesses could be the secret to you converting more here.
JUST TRY IT!

Simple Story Ideas JUST for you ⤵️
2024 Instagram Marketing is trending towards getting back to basics and I AM HERE FOR ITTT!
(which makes sense since the core of what I’ve done hasn’t changed since 2017 🦕 yes, I’ve been doing this since Stories first came out!)
If your goal is to get more consistent with stories, SAVE THIS REEL because I got you ❤️
The number ☝🏼 rule of Instagram Stories? DON’T OVER THINK IT!
Here are THREE simple story ideas:
1️⃣ WHAT ARE YOU EATING OR DRINKING?
I know it sounds silly, but it’s really that simple. The amount of people I’ve connected with just by sharing Everything But The Bagel seasoning is WILD. Where’s your coffee creamer from? What’s your new favorite snack? You don’t have to be a health coach to share your food. Best places in the city to eat pizza? (Indy: @bazbeaux ) Best seafood? (Indy: @slapfishindiana )
BONUS: Sharing your favorites & *tagging them in your story* could lead to THEM sharing it in THEIR stories & you could be in front of a whole new audience of potential customers/clients!
2️⃣ WHERE ARE YOU?
Okay. Before you get all “I don’t want strangers knowing where I am” on me, you can share this AFTER you are at these locations. Did you go to a park? Coffee shop? Office? Restaurant? Share where you’re going & what you’re doing. People are NOSY. We want to know what you’re up to, so just give us what we want already & show us 🤣.
BONUS: Share business-related things without selling your product or service. Show yourself dropping off samples at the post office, meeting with a client, or meeting with your team. Just an easy, subtle reminder of what you do and that you’re BUSY doing it 💅
3️⃣ SHARE SOMEONE ELSE’S POST.
The first✌🏼not doing it for you? (even though, I’m telling you, it WORKS) Welp, how about just sharing someone else’s post that inspired you that day? Share a post you found that’s related to your field! Click th

IDEAS FOR YOUR VIDEO⬇️
(You’re gonna want to save this one!!)
You don’t have to use BRoll of yourself working (or creating if you create, packaging packages if you package 😆, etc) like I did, even though people REALLY DO like seeing behind the scenes of your business and that CUTE LIL FACE OF YOURS!!!
Here are some other video options for this Reel:
➡️ Your POV: this can be your view out your window, your feet walking into a coffee shop, panning shot from left to right of your holiday decorations, etc! Just make sure it’s not too fast. Don’t want to make people sick 🤣
➡️ You doing something holiday-related: decorating a space in your home, pouring a cup of coffee into a holiday mug, wrapping a gift, etc.
➡️ A random video of you from this year: have any videos of you laughing with friends, playing with your kids, at a networking event? It doesn’t matter when the video was taken! This video is about something you learned this year that you want to share so any video from this year will do 👌
I love the options for the caption, too!
➡️ You can use it to explain WHY you’re not bringing that specific thing into 2024 with you via a personal story. People love your perspective on things! It’s giving thought leadership 💅
➡️ You can also take the opportunity to tell a client or customer story that backs this decision up! Telling their stories not only helps your audience slip right on into their shoes, but it also is a beautiful 👌 way to segue into selling your offer or product!
➡️ You can put a lil twist on it and then share what you ARE going to bring into 2024! The new year is all about change and making changes but it’s polarizing to share what you want to stay the same 👊
Like for me, talking with my hands is OBVIOUSLY something I’m taking with me into 2024 🤣🤣
I hope this helps you connect your Reel ideas to your business goals, whatever they may be right now!

HOW TO FIND YOUR “LOW LIFTS” ⤵️
Describing low lift vs. high lift marketing strategies reminds me SO much of my Find Your Minimum™️ concept I created in 2020 to keep my business going while doing the least (instead of the most).
I think where a lot of business owners get stuck is trying to do..
💥 EVERYTHING
🚀 FULL THROTTLE
🚨 24/7
And then they get burned out.
They stop marketing for weeks.
And it’s that much harder to get back on the saddle.
AND IT MAKES SENSE ✅
Why would you want to get back on a horse that makes it IMPOSSIBLE for you to stay on?
Finding the “low lifts” for yourself will save you during the holidays AND in busy seasons of life.
The thing is, no one can tell you what your low lifts are.
Only YOU can figure them out.
Maybe talking to camera on stories IS the easier lift for you.
Maybe creating Reels IS easier than doing carousels or static posts.
Maybe staying consistent with stories IS easier than posting to the grid (which is my favorite way to find my own minimum since it’s easy for me to do AND yields the best results sales-wise!)
If you need help Finding Your Minimum™️ and figuring out how to do your consistent least this holiday season when it comes to social media marketing, then comment FYM and my lil robot 🤖 will DM you the link to sign up for my FREEEEEEE 3-Day Email Challenge!

This birthday hits different ❤️
This past year has been a hard one for my business partner turned one of my best friends @shannonmckinstrie
And the thing that is so magical about Shannon is that if you look at her year professionally, she CRUSHED it 💅
➡️ She shows up for her community even when her daughter dumps out an entire cereal box.
➡️ She creates content when her sinuses are OUT OF CONTROL again.
➡️ She even shows up to lives when @thecarycloser orders a Diet Pepsi and not a Diet Coke…she is a SOLDIER😆
And we all do stuff like this as entrepreneurs and business owners, right?
But Shannon.
It’s another level of commitment.
You will never meet a more hard working, dedicated, or passionate person in our field.
She has a never-ending thirst for knowledge & her love for social media rivals any person I know.
Although I have a knack and intuition for marketing…I’m forever her student. Learning from her daily, listening to her latest marketing knowledge, and saying “let’s do it” to any grand idea she has for us and our membership.
Because it ALWAYS works.
They say you always need a dreamer and a realist in a successful partnership and although I tend to be more of the realist, she makes me a dreamer too.
I am so blessed & lucky that I not only get to work with Shannon, but that I get to laugh with her all day long 🤣
(Like, if you only saw our texts, memes, etc 😬🤣)
She’s loving, giving, generous, faith-filled, hysterical and I am so thankful God encouraged me to use the hashtag I did in 2018 to lead her to finding me.
We never have any idea what the next year will bring us, Shannon, and this year proved that. It was hard for us in so many different ways and we’ve had to set boundaries, make “big girl business” decisions, & protect ourselves and our energy.
But one thing I can count on is you 🥺
And that’s what always brings me comfort.
I love you!
Go snort laugh your day away, dancing to Tswi
Tell me if you agree ⤵️
There are as many ways to grow your business as there are reality shows, am I right? 🤣
But if you’re like me, you spend *a lot* of time on Instagram.
And you might be resistant to investing a lot of energy into other marketing methods.
HOWEVER, social media is only the icing on the marketing cupcake, friend! You gotta diversify your efforts.
My business has grown by leaps and bounds since I created a more robust marketing strategy that leverages the power of relationships.
So in my latest blog post, I share 3 ways you can integrate a few classic marketing strategies with your Instagram efforts to help your business thrive!
(Spoiler alert: it includes EXACTLY why I use email marketing 📧 AND networking 🤝 and how it’s grown my business and my clients’ businesses, too!)
