CUJ Celebrates World Earth Day

Jammu, 22 April 2024: Central university of Jammu under the leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain, celebrated International Mother Earth Day today. The Department of Environmental Sciences in collaboration with students for development at the Central University of Jammu organized a series of events under the theme "Planet vs. Plastic," aimed at spotlighting the critical issue of plastic pollution and advocating for sustainable solutions. The day-long festivities brought together students, scholars, faculty, and experts to raise awareness and encourage collective action toward a cleaner and greener future.

The celebration commenced with a burst of colors as students showcased their creativity through vibrant rangoli designs, symbolizing the harmony between nature and human expression.
Dr. Ankit Tandon and Dr. Dinesh Kumar both faculties from Department of Environmental Sciences were the coordinators of the event. Dr. Ankit Tandon, led the inaugural session, by setting the tone for the day's discussions and activities. The distinguished lineup of speakers delved into the theme with depth and insight, addressing various facets of the planet's battle against plastic pollution.

Prof. Sunil Dhar, Dean Life Sciences, delivered a poignant address, shedding light on the dire consequences of plastic waste on our ecosystems and urging for immediate action. Prof. Deepak Pathania, Dean Research Studies, shared strategies for effective plastic waste management, emphasizing the need for innovative approaches and community engagement.

Prof. Richa Kothari, Head of the Department, while speaking on the occasion underscored the gravity of the plastic menace, highlighting its far-reaching impacts on biodiversity and human health. Dr. Pankaj Mehta provided additional perspective, emphasizing the importance of education and advocacy in combating plastic pollution.

The event also featured a captivating environmental awareness skit performed by students, illustrating the stark contrast between the beauty of our planet and the threat posed by plastic pollution. Through creative storytelling, the skit inspired attendees to rethink their consumption habits and embrace sustainable alternatives.

The highlights of the day was the Ecogiri stall, showcasing innovative solutions and eco-friendly products as alternatives to single-use plastics by the M.Sc. students of 2nd and 4th semester. From reusable bags to compostable packaging, the stall served as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that sustainable living is both achievable and rewarding. The event concluded with a quiz competition in which the M.Sc. students participated enthusiastically.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Shweta Yadav, Associate Dean International Affairs, expressed gratitude to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Deans, Head, Faculty members and all the dignitaries, participants, scholars and students for making the event great success. With the theme, "Planet vs. Plastic", Earth Day celebration at the Central University of Jammu served as a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to follow the path envisioned under the India-led global mass movement of Mission LiFE. Through education, advocacy, and collective action, we can overcome the challenges posed by plastic pollution and pave the way for a cleaner and healthier world.

The event includes Ecogiri stall exhibition and SFD talk on the theme of this year’s Earth Day.

Woman, Paramour Duo held for Killing Husband at an abandoned_place in
Pounichak Area.
A woman, along with her lover, allegedly conspired and killed her 33-year-old
husband while portraying the murder as road accident. Both the accused were arrested
and taken into custody. The victim was brutally murdered in Seora area falling under the
jurisdiction of PP Pounichak, Jammu on Sunday 6th April, 2024 evening.
On 7th April, 2024 at about 03:00 hours, information was received at PP
Pounichak through PCR Jammu to the effect that one person namely Naresh Chander
S/O Achru R/O Bhaderwah had died due to road accident near Revenue Complex, Gole
Gujral and his dead body was lying at Gandhi Nagar Govt. Hospital, Jammu and his wife
was admitted there in injured condition. On receiving this information, an Investigating
Officer was deputed to Gandhi Nagar hospital who took the dead body into custody,
recorded the statements of the wife of deceased and other witnesses. After that
postmortem of the deceased was got conducted at GMC Jammu and body was handed
over to legal heirs. On this, FIR No.85/2024 U/S 279,337,304A IPC was registered at PS
Domana and investigation of the instant case was entrusted to ASI Vinod Kumar of PP
Pouni chak. During investigation it came to fore that the statement of the wife of
deceased was suspiciously misleading and mismatched with the incident. The
Investigation Officer informed his senior officers that he was sensing a foul play in the
death and had doubts on the involvement of wife of the deceased. On this, Police of PP
Pouniachak under the supervision of SHO PS Domana, SDPO Domana and SP Rural
Jammu started thorough investigation and during investigation, all technical evidences
were collected, analyzed and statements of in-laws of the deceased and other relatives
were recorded. After detailed investigation, it came to the notice that Shallu Devi W/O
deceased Naresh Chander was having illicit relation with one person namely Bhanu
Partap Singh, who was also present with them at the time of death of Naresh Chander.
Acting swiftly, police arrested both Shallu Devi and Bhanu Partap and during questioning
Bhanu Partap admitted that he along with Shallu Devi had hatched a criminal
conspiracy and killed Naresh Chander at an abandoned plot in Seora area and thereafter
took him to Gandhi Nagar hospital. As Bhanu Pratap is working as a trainee at Gandhi
Nagar hospital, they portrayed the case and resulting death as road accident. Initially
wife of the deceased told the cops that her husband died in an accident at Gol Gujral
near Revenue Complex and was shifted to Gandhi Nagar hospital in an auto rickshaw
where doctors declared him brought dead. After this, Section 302 IPC was added and
further investigation in the matter is going on.

Reasi (Ransoo) an information was received at Police Station Ransoo from a reliable source that one person namely Ashok Singh S/o Prem Singh R/o Poura Jaggir tesh pouni Distt. Reasi is indulged in the business of manufacturing and selling of illicit liquor (h***h) at village Poura Jaggir of Ransoo & surrounding areas. On this, police party led by HC Gulzar Ahmed 21/Rsi alobg with Ct Vikas Anand1234/Rsi, Ct. Tarsem Lal 1033/Rsi, Ct Ajeet Kumar 1026/Rsi & Spo Karan Singh765/Rsi from police station Ransoo conducted a raid and found that the said persons is preparing h***h near his house at Poura Jaggir. On seeing police party Accused person Ashok Singh try to run away from spot but was caught on the spot by police party alongwith 3.5 litres of h***h and also recovered 25 litres of lahan which was destroyed on spot while still, apparatus, pipes utensils etc were seized. The operation was conducted by SHO Ransoo Inspector. Arun Singh under the supervision of Dy.SP Hqrs. Reasi Sh. Waseem Hamdani JKPS, ASP Reasi Sh. Taking a step further towards meeting a long pending demand of Katra students, a memorandum of adding commerce as a subject in Katra Hr. Sec. School was presented by Youth Congress leader Varun Magotra to DC Reasi Indu Kanwal Chib in her office.
The Govt Hr. Sec. School of Katra was upgraded from being High School in 1975-76 but since then, commerce as a subject hasn't been added till date. Due to non-availability of subject, the students of Katra and Panthal block go outside the district and incur a significant cost in respect to their studies. Katra, being a commercial hub has a long pending demand of including commerce as a subject in Govt. Hr. Sec. School.
The youth of Katra met congress youth leader Varun Magotra few days back regarding the issue. Varun Magotra without wasting time readily took a positive action and met DC Reasi Indu Kanwal Chib and requested her to act fast and positive in adding commerce as a subject in Katra. DC Reasi gave a promising reaction to the issue and said that the commerce stream will soon start in Katra as the pandemic ends and schools open.
DC Reasi also congratulated Varun Magotra for thinking and coming forward for a great cause that will help shape the future of youngsters.

Reasi Arnas July 23, Arnas police solved one theft case which took place in the house of Anju Devi w/o Ramesh Kumar R/O Sai Narloo in the intervening night of 11/12 july.On this they first inquired from all at their own level but could not reach a conclusion.On 18 july Anju Devi approached Police Station Arnas with a written complain on which FIR no. 62/20 was registered u/s 457/380 IPC at police station Arnas and Police team from police station Arnas apprehended one person namely Deepak Kumar Sharma S/O Sh. Isher Dass R/O Dharmatha Kanthan tehsil Arnas.During interrogation he disclosed that he has made this theft and has kept all the stolen goods at Dharmatha in the jungle near his house.Later Police took him to the spot disclosed by him and recovered the stolen items in presence of civil witnesses.The recovered items include 264 gram Silver and 6 gram gold items worth ₹38000/.The whole operation was conducted by SHO Police station Arnas Insp. Jammu July 22, Police party of PP Narwal apprehended one person namely Raman kumar S/o Joginder kumar R/o Rajiv nagar,Jammu during naka checking at Rajeev Nagar chowk and recovered 07 Grams of he**in like substance from his possession. The recovery

*06 Bikes recovered by Udhampur police, 03 thieves arrested*

Based on the complaint lodged by *Bharat Kumar S/O Ashok Kumar R/O Lambi Gali Udhampur* at PS Udhampur, that some unknown thieves have stolen his bike bearing registration number *JK14C 0746 from Lambi Gali, Udhampur*, a Case FIR No. 323/2020 U/S 379 IPC was registered at Police Station Udhampur.

During the course of investigation, police party of PS Udhampur headed by SHO PS Udhampur zeored some suspects and on their disclosure police party intercepted the stolen bike from Kawa area of Udhampur Town. On further disclosure of accused person, police party recovered 05 more vehicles (04 bikes, 01 scooty) which were also stolen by the gang of thieves from Udhampur Town.

Three accused persons namely *Wasim Akram S/O Mohd. Saleem R/O Kawa,Udhampur, Noor Mohd. S/O Faqir Mohd. R/O Nagrota, Jammu and Qayoom S/O Chirag Din R/O Barmeen,Tehsil Ramnagar, Udhampur* were arrested and this vehicle theft gang has been busted

Covid SoP violators fined in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, JULY-21:- Acting tough against the violation of SOPs for containment of COVID-19, District Administration Udhampur, today fined 333 violators.

In this regard Dr. Piyush Singla said that all the people have been informed to follow the SOPs for the containment of COVID-19, and various advisories, SOPs and instructions have been issued from time to time.

CEO SMVD Shrine Board launches monsoon plantation drive in Trikuta Hills



KATRA, JULY 21 - Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board is making continuous endeavours to conserve the environment and green the Trikuta Hills and the spaces along the tracks leading to the Shrine. Towards achieving this objective, Mr. Ramesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, today launched the monsoon plantation drive along the Tarakote Marg by planting saplings of Peepal, Bargad, Jacaranda and Tecoma.
The Shrine Board will plant 1.10 lakh plants of different species under its Annual Greening Plan during the current financial year thereby bringing another 100 hectares area under green cover. Of these, 80,000 saplings are being planted during the ongoing monsoon plantation season while the remaining 30,000 plants will be planted during the coming winter plantation season. For the purpose, 1.20 lakh plants are being produced this year from the hi-tech nursery established by the Shrine Board at Kunia near Panthal to in-house meet the planting stock requirements of the Board.
After launching the plantation drive by the CEO of the Shrine Board, a massive plantation was undertaken in the Tarakote Marg area in which the staff of the Board and the CRPF personnel took part. The species being planted include Peepal, Bargad, Bauhinia, Amrud, Amla, Jamun, Kalpavriksh, Chinar, Tecoma, Jacaranda, Rudraksh, Bhera, Arjuna, Amaltas, Hibiscus, Bougainvillea and other soil binder species.
Among those who participated in the plantation drive included Mr. Vivek Verma, Additional CEO of the Shrine Board; Mr. Hem Kant Prasher, Chief Accounts Officer; Dr. Jagdish Mehra and Mr. Vishavjeet Singh, Dy. CEOs; Mr. Vinay Khajuria, ACF; and other concerned officers of the Board.
