Yet another assault by cops!
A dalit farmer couple tried to attemp su***de by consuming pesticides to protest against an anti-encroachment drive.
The police and revenue officials destroyed their crops.
Meanwhile, collector Vishwanathan said that the land was reserved for a college building and was illegally occupied by local land mafia Gappu Pardi who gave it to Rajkumar Ahirwar on a share basis. He said Pardi used the Ahirwar family to encroach upon the land.
Previous attempts to clear the encroachment were unsuccessful.
The couple said that they have been farming on this land for years now.
When the police was buldozing their crops, Rajkumar Ahirwar tried to stop then but he was beaten up mercilessly in front of his children and when his wife tried to defend, she too was beaten up.
Later the couple was taken to the nearby hospital and Savitribai who is now stable, stated that the couple had taken a loan of 2 lakh rupees for farming. She asked ''Who will pay our debt? Will government pay it? If our crops has been destroyed, what can we do except killing ourself?"
