“Takuro Okada’s latest release distills a decade’s worth of recorded material into a singular statement, where his guitar—processed, stretched, and layered—acts as both narrator and landscape. Though his past collaborations have placed him among some of experimental music’s most revered players, here he asserts a vision that is entirely his own, a spectral blur of ambient drift, avant-folk gestures, and the echoes of a world just beyond reach.” - New Commute

Nice article in HHV mag on Les Rallizés Dénudés and our latest releases including YaneUra Oct. ‘80 and YaneUra Sept. ‘80. Link to the full article is in our Story.

“Many of the extensive live jams based on skeletal songs feel like they want to negate the notion of progress, and unlike many of their contemporaries Les Rallizés Dénudés also didn’t seem interested in transcending reality. Instead, a sense of nervous dread permeated through their music—the consequence of a revolution betrayed, perhaps. »Times may change, but we […] don’t change,« Mizutani wrote in one of his few interviews.” - Kristoffer Cornils ( mag)

Last year, a mysterious tape was discovered amid the piles of recordings left behind by Les Rallizes Dénudés frontman, Takashi Mizutani. While little was known about the recording, there was no mistaking the sound that was heard on the tape: the twin guitar interplay between Mizutani and Fujio Yamaguchi, the former Murahachibu guitarist. After more research and meticulous listening, it was determined that the tape contained a board recording of a set played at YaneUra in Shibuya, Tokyo, on September 11, 1980.

YaneUra Sept. ‘80 captures a flashpoint in the band’s Fujio-era lineup, which ultimately lasted only half a year or so. The raw intensity of this performance feels far removed from the tight sound heard on YaneUra Oct. ‘80, which occurred just a month later.

Today we are excited to announce Takuro Okada’s album The Near End, The Dark Night, The County Line (DRFT15).

As fitting for Takuro Okada’s first collection to be released outside of his home country of Japan, the title evokes the vastness of an unknown world that lies just beyond the periphery of the senses. Available on vinyl, digital download, and streaming, the album contains selections from the expansive archive of recorded material has amassed over the past decade.

While his past releases have included notable collaborators such as Haruomi Hosono, Nels Cline, Sam Gendel, and Carlos Niño, among others who have contributed to his band and ensemble recordings, this collection showcases Okada mainly as a solo musician, focusing mostly on his main instrument, the guitar. These tracks demonstrate his mastery in bringing out strange and beautiful tones from the instrument, from ambient and Americana, to psychedelic and other-worldly harmonics. This multiplicity of sounds serves as testament to Okada’s versatility as a musician, while his singular approach to the act of recording keeps it all cohesive as the unmistakable work of Takuro Okada.

To preorder the album on vinyl (Black LP or “Silver Shadow” color LP), comment SHADOW below and we’ll DM you the link to the Bandcamp page.

This Friday, February 7, we will begin taking pre-orders for Takuro Okada’s first album on Temporal Drift: The Near End, The Dark Night, The County Line. “The Room,” the second single from the album, will be streaming everywhere on Friday as well. 🩶

is a Tokyo-based musician who’s made a name for himself over the past decade as a guitarist and producer in Japan’s indie and jazz scenes. His boundless approach effortlessly navigates between varied styles and arrives at the intersection somewhere between Americana, ambient, and free improv. Some of you may have seen him backing Yuma Abe on his recent U.S. tours. Needless to say, we are thrilled to be working with him on his first release outside of Japan.

When we announced Flora, we shared for the first time this color photograph of Hiroshi Yoshimura. Here’s what we know about the image, which is believed to be taken at the Grand Canyon in Arizona.

Hiroshi made several trips to the U.S. during his lifetime, and this photo was taken in 1993 when he also visited several western states like CA and WA. During this particular trip he documented public art and sound design in some of the cities he visited, like Los Angeles and Seattle, the results of which can be found in the book “街のなかでみつけた音 (“The Sounds Found in Cities”)”.

Flora is an album that is listened to perpetually,
Passed on from one listener to another,
And the charm of the sound-and music-loving figure
known as Hiroshi Yoshimura,
Just might come drifting through.
Like the scent of a small flower.
—Junichi Konuma

🌸
Announcing the worldwide reissue of Flora, Hiroshi Yoshimura’s underrated work originally recorded and completed in 1987 and first released on CD in 2006, three years after his passing in 2003.

Flora is chronologically and stylistically a follow-up to Hiroshi Yoshimura’s acclaimed 1986 works Green and Surround, wherein Yoshimura continues to play with the ambience of sound and the sound of ambience, underscoring his mastery in the field of environmental music. Listening to Flora is like taking a stroll in a park, absorbing the colors and textures of the natural environment—flowers, insects, the swaying of the leaves—as Yoshimura often did at his beloved Edo-era park near his home in Tokyo. As Junichi Konuma describes in his liner notes, Yoshimura’s music “only begins to emerge as it exists at the intersection of passive and active.” Yoshimura’s approach to sound and melody invites the listener to hear the intricacies of the music with intent, while simultaneously allowing the aural textures to exist as part of the background of our everyday life.

This reissue marks the first time the album will be available on vinyl (2LP, 45 rpm) and cassette, and includes liner notes written by music scholar Junichi Konuma and remastered audio by Grammy-nominated engineer . Reissue design and layout was handled by .

Vinyl, CD, Cassette, and Digital pre-orders are now open. In addition to black vinyl, exclusive color vinyl variants are available from Temporal Drift’s Bandcamp (“Evening Primrose”), (“Sky”), (“Asagao”), (“Daisy”), and (“Clover”). Street date is the first day of spring: March 20, 2025.

Comment FLORA and we’ll DM you the pre-order link. To hear the first single, “Over The Clover,” comment CLOVER and a link to the single will be sent to your inbox. 🌸☘️

Los Angeles is our home. The fires and winds are causing unprecedented damage to the area.

We are safe. Yosuke happens to be in Japan right now and I (Patrick) have evacuated further south. Not going to post for a bit but will share info to our IG Story. Many people in our immediate and extended communities are severely impacted. Stay safe.

Here is an excerpt from Manabu Yuasa’s liner notes for YaneUra Sept. ‘80.

Comment YANEURA and we’ll DM you a link to our Bandcamp page.

“This release is evidence enough for us to
imagine that Takashi Mizutani regarded these
sessions with Fujio as something extraordinary.
It may be just one dead leaf in the immensely
varied history of Les Rallizes Dénudés, but it
would not be strange for it to be seen as the
fabric that binds one person to another, or a pilot
light that ignites a new chapter in history.”
- Manabu Yuasa
