Takuro Okada’s “5 Records I Want Right Now” for

Recently, Takuro sat down with ELLA RECORDS for their series “WHAT’S IN YOUR CART?” where they invite record-loving guests to choose ‘5 Records They Want Right Now’ from the ELLA ONLINE STORE lineup.

Watch the full interview via (in our Stories) and we’ve linked the full article in our bio.

Takuro’s latest single, “Reflections/Entering # 2,” is streaming everywhere now. Comment “LISTEN” below and we’ll DM you the link.

Our guest this time is Takuro Okada—a songwriter, guitarist, and producer whose multifaceted talents have earned him recognition as one of the key young figures in Japan’s current music scene. A dedicated music enthusiast and well-known vinyl lover, Okada has been a regular user of ELLA RECORDS, which we deeply appreciate.

During his visit to ELLA RECORDS VINTAGE, his eyes lit up as he browsed the shelves, exclaiming, “I’ve always wanted to come here!” However, selecting records proved to be a real challenge, as he humorously described it as “as tough as a trolley problem” due to the sheer number of tempting options.

Alongside a thought-provoking interview that reveals his deep and sincere approach to music, enjoy Okada’s carefully chosen “Five Records of Agonizing Dilemma.”

Heads up—the last copies of both Murahachibo releases are on our Bandcamp. Less than five of each! Act fast if you were looking to add these to your collection. 🔗 in bio.

Murahachibu - Seibu Kōdō / January 1973 (LP)
Murahachibu - Mitasai / 1972 (2LP)

Murahachibu is a glammy, Stones-y, revved up proto-punk band formed in Kyoto in 1969. Lead guitarist Fujio Yamaguchi became a member of Les Rallizes Dénudés in the early 1980s, and his distinctive playing can be heard on our recent Rallizes release YaneUra Oct. ’80. At one time, they also called themselves Hadaka No Rallizes, which of course is the Japanese name for Les Rallizes Dénudés!

These two archival releases showcase their true, raw sound much more accurately than the well-known “Live Murahachibu” from 1973, since that album was recorded after the departure of second guitarist Tetsu Asada from the lineup. According to vocalist Chahbo, “Murahachibu started and ended with Tetsu”.

Today we are very excited to share Takuro Okada’s first release on Temporal Drift: “Reflections/Entering #2”, the first single from the forthcoming album The Near End, The Dark Night, The County Line.

is a Tokyo-based musician who’s made a name for himself over the past decade as a guitarist and producer in Japan’s indie and jazz scenes. His boundless approach effortlessly navigates between varied styles and arrives at the intersection somewhere between Americana, ambient, and free improv. Some of you may have seen him backing Yuma Abe on his recent U.S. tour (they’ll be back for more shows this year in December). Needless to say, we are thrilled to be working with him on his first release outside of Japan. Stay tuned for more details about the album.

…And the winner is @2.am.designs 🥇

Thank you to everyone that left a comment and shared your favorite LRD song. It was really interesting to see all of those. Stay tuned for more giveaways! Copies of the book are in stock.

🖤
While the lyrics of Les Rallizes Dénudés varied from performance to performance, this book focuses on the songs from the three 1991 release albums, ’67-’69 STUDIO et LIVE, MIZUTANI, and ’77 LIVE, as well as THE OZ TAPES. Referencing the creative notes left behind by Takashi Mizutani, this is a collection of poems as a literary work compiling the original lyrics of Les Rallizes Dénudés.

The 248-page hardcover book is housed in a custom slipcase and includes a CD (approx. 20 min.) of the until-now unreleased song “Hibiscus Flower,” recorded in 1969 and processed by Takashi Mizutani in the late 1980s, and remastered by Makoto Kubota for its first release. The poems, published in three languages (Japanese, English, and French), are accompanied by photographs taken by photographer Kyo Nakamura, an original member of the band. The book also includes a commentary by Yoshihiko Ichida, editor of the collection, and an essay by Soshi Suzuki. The binding is by Akira Uji, a former stage director and artistic director for Les Rallizes Dénudés. Order now via the link in our bio.

While Les Rallizes Dénudés’ YaneUra Oct. ‘80 (DRFT13) was being prepared for release, a mysterious tape was unearthed. Discovered amid the piles of recordings left behind by frontman Takashi Mizutani, the undated cassette contained no recording info, and was referred to as “Unknown” during the archival process. There was no mistaking the sound that was heard on the tape, however: the twin guitar interplay between Mizutani and Fujio Yamaguchi, the former Murahachibu guitarist whose addition to the Rallizes ushered in a new era for the band.

This particularly clean recording was initially thought to be a forgotten studio recording, as corroborated by ex-members and others close to the band. Ultimately, upon further research and meticulous listening, it was determined that the tape in fact contained a board recording of a set played at YaneUra in Shibuya, Tokyo, on September 11, 1980. The raw intensity of this performance feels far removed from the tight sound heard on YaneUra Oct. ‘80, which occurred just a month later.

YaneUra Sept. ‘80 captures a flashpoint in the band’s Fujio-era lineup, which ultimately lasted only half a year or so. At the same time, it is bursting with the bottomless potential that the 1980s Les Rallizes Dénudés possessed deep within.

Swipe through for a look at the release as well as a sample of the track “氷の炎 / Flame of Ice.” Preorder “Galaxy Ice” (Temporal Drift Exclusive) vinyl, Black vinyl, CD, and Digital Download via the link in our bio. Out February 20, 2025.

* Recorded on September 11, 1980 at YaneUra in Shibuya, Tokyo
* Featuring guitarist Fujio Yamaguchi, formerly of proto-punk bad boys Murahachibu
* Mixed and mastered from the original tapes by Rallizes member Makoto Kubota
* Official recording fully authorized by The Last One Musique
* Liner notes by Manabu Yuasa

The recently announced album MARS STUDIO - The First Session by Les Rallizes Dénudés has been canceled. If you pre-ordered the album in any format from Bandcamp we will issue a full refund in the coming days.

After the announcement of the album, The Last One Musique discovered there were flaws in how the release was prepared, namely concerning the provenance of the source audio used for the master. What was believed to be a studio recording from Mars Studio, corroborated by ex-members and others close to the band, was in fact a very clean board recording from a set played at YaneUra, several weeks before the show released earlier this year as YaneUra Oct. ’80. This material will be reconfigured and repackaged as another album, details of which will be announced soon.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work with The Last One Musique to get this all sorted out. It is extremely important that all of our releases live up to the highest standards. And of course, all Rallizes fans deserve to have this incredible music presented in the best way possible. 🖤
