Timaya said “ Music in our days wasn’t even like this . You did not have to wait for a record label to sign you before you start working . There were no sponsors but for the love of music we kept going . What am i saying ? Young talents don’t have to wait for a label to come to them . Keep working , if you dream big , you won’t submit to just any kind of label . Every label owner wants to make profits and they will use you in a way that you might not even be comfortable with it . You might cry and no one hears you, you might even lose everything. Just like business people start small and grow big, you can start small and grow too . “ 🔚

This is more than truth , many young talents are not even concerned about succeeding anymore . They just believe if this or that label signs them they’ll grow . Have you ever asked yourself what the label stands to get from you ? Do you think someone will put in so much money and might not make life uncomfortable for you ?

Truth is young kings and queens can make it , start small and keep going . If you are talented , study music business , invest the little you got and stay consistent .

I can't count the number of messages in my inbox begging me to link them up to Don Jazzy or Olamide. Whenever I see those messages, I do laugh. You are looking for Olamide to sponsor your music career but you don't have a single song you have recorded by yourself. You don't even have a Facebook business page. You are still using your normal Facebook profile. How can someone believe you are serious?

You claim you don't have money to record a song but the truth of the matter is that no one can give you money to record a song. Go and get a pidgin hole save and start dropping at least #500 inside the save everyday. Within 5 months, you can realize money to record your song in a nearby studio. When the song is ready, it can only cost you #5,000 to place your song in online streaming platforms. Then start promoting your song

I saw a tweet about the groundbreaking PH music era that began in 06/07, and I decided to shed more light on what that moment was like, because I was a witness!

So I travelled from Lagos down to Owerri in 2007 for studies and all I knew then was Lagos music.
It wasn't long after my arrival that the Niger Delta/PH guys came on the music scene like a tornado.

Timaya had just released his 2007 debut studio album 'True Story' that spun his breakout hit and gospel number, Ogologomma, as well as 'True Story' and 'Bayelsa'.
Commercial buses and Symbian phones were blaring those songs for everyone's listening pleasure.

Sky B was also a sensation at the time for his hit song 'Am Calling (Ma Bebe)'.

The following year Timaya dropped his second album 'Gift and Grace' and couldn't help bragging in 'I Don Blow' because he had actually blown!

Soon after, Frank D'Nero debuted with 'Kalangolo' and 'Cure My Craze' which further heightened everyone's craze for PH artistes.
M-Kaze was also doing his thing.

As if it couldn't get any better, Duncan Mighty released his 22-track studio album titled Koliwater in 2008.
The way that album ate... Ako Na Uche, Dance For Me, Ijeoma, Scatter My Dada...
Lagos music what? I was way over it.

Meanwhile, rapper M-Trill was doing his big ones with songs like 'Number One' and 'Bounce'. Soty also gave us 'Malaria' (pun intended).

Not forgetting Waconzy, whose 2010 'I Celebrate' was worth celebrating because that song got to every corner of the country.

The interesting thing is that most of these stars from the Niger Delta were going for the dancehall/reggae vibe and were not playing in that genre.
Those radio nights in the south east were for dancing and sweating it out as these guys were more dominant than even South East artistes on the radio.

Not forgetting Ibiso's melodious gospel song 'Anipakabara', which had all the South Easterners singing in a language they didn't understand.

Mohbad: I Would've Died In The Hands Of My Former Label - Singer Harrysong Reveals

Nigerian artiste, Harrison Okiri, popularly known as Harrysong has revealed how he was bullied and would have died when he was with his former label.

Harrysong, taking to his Instagram story on Monday, said, "If not for the grace of God, with the help of some very good men, I would've died in the hands of my former label.

"The torment, attacks, abuses and operations back to back, just because I've served and wanted to move out and grow a little for myself. It was hell for me.

"The general public believed everything they said about me then. Fans, supporters, show promoters bullying me everywhere. In fact one of my friends said he will buy drinks, celebrate, if I die of hunger and depression.

"I'm alive today just for the few that stood by me, cus they know the true story and refused to be influenced by lies just to kill an innicent man.

"Record labels should stop this do or die thing, killing and destroying young talents just because they want to prove label power and supremacy."

Harrysong said this while reacting to the death of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, who died on September 12 at the age of 27.
