On October 13, 2025, Gargi College inaugurated its new academic centre, Pragyanam: Centre for the Study of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), in the Seminar Hall, Auditorium Block.
The event was graced by Chief Guest Prof. Rajnish Kumar Mishra, School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and Guest Speaker Dr. Gopal Ram, Centre
for Linguistics, School of Language, Literature, and Culture Studies, JNU. The ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address introducing the vision and objectives of Pragyanam. Prof. Sangeeta Bhatia, Officiating Principal, felicitated the guests and emphasized the importance of reviving India’s indigenous intellectual traditions
through institutional study.
In his insightful address, Prof. Mishra highlighted three profound ideas (1) The need to critically engage with Western historians who often overlook or misrepresent Indian Knowledge Systems. (2) The misconception that modernity equals Westernization, stressing that Indian civilization has long upheld a refined and advanced knowledge culture. (3) The belief that one can embrace modernity while staying rooted in one’s cultural and philosophical foundations. Dr. Gopal Ram delivered a thought-provoking lecture on the linguistic and philosophical dimensions of Indian Knowledge Systems, reflecting on the centrality of language in shaping Indian epistemology.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of the Pragyanam- IKS Team: Prof. Rekha Navneet, Prof. Meena, Prof. Alka Garg, Prof. Vandna Luthra, Dr. Chandra Tiwari, Dr. Neetu Kumari, Dr. Megha Shukla, Ms. Barkha Dubey, Mr. Rajiv Shukla, and Dr. Shyamolima G. Choudhury under the guidance of Convenor Dr. Alka Michael and Co- convener Dr. Arunima Das. The inauguration of Pragyanam marked a significant stride in integrating India’s timeless wisdom with contemporary academic discourse.
“प्रज्ञानम्”: भारतीय ज्ञान प्रणाली अध्ययन कें द्र (IKS), गागी कॉलेज, दिल्ली दिश्वदिद्यालय का उि् घाटन समारोह 13 अक्टू बर 2025 को, गागी कॉलेज में “प्रज्ञानम्” - भारतीय ज्ञान प्रणाली अध्ययन कें द्र (IKS) का भव्यउि् घाटन समारोह सेदमनार हॉल, ऑदिटोररयम ब्लॉक में आयोदजत दकया गया। इस अिसर पर मुख्य अदतदि प्रो. रजनीश कु मार दमश्रा, स्कू ल ऑफ संस्कृ त एं ि इंदिक स्टिीज़, जिाहरलाल नेहरू दिश्वदिद्यालय (JNU) और िक्ता िॉ. गोपाल राम, सेंटर फॉर दलंग्विग्वस्टक्स, स्कू ल ऑफ लैंिेज, दलटरे चर एं ि कल्चर स्टिीज़, JNU उपग्वथित रहे। काययक्रम का शुभारं भ िीप प्रज्वलन से हुआ, दजसके बाि प्रज्ञानम् कें द्र के उद्देश्य और दृदि पर आधाररत स्वागत भाषण प्रस्तुत दकया गया। काययिाहक प्राचायाय प्रो. संगीता भादटया ने अपने संबोधन में भारतीय बौग्विक परं पराओं के संरक्षण और अध्ययन के महत्व पर प्रकाश िाला।
प्रो. दमश्रा ने अपने व्याख्यान में तीन मुख्य दबंिुओं पर ज़ोर दिया: (1) पदिमी इदतहासकारों द्वारा भारतीय ज्ञान प्रणादलयों की आलोचना पर पुनदियचार की आिश्यकता। (2) आधुदनकता को के िल पदिमीकरण के समान न मानते हुए भारतीय सभ्यता की प्राचीन और उन्नत परं परा को स्वीकारना। (3) अपनी जडों से जुडे रहकर भी आधुदनक बनने की सम्भािना।
िॉ. गोपाल राम ने भारतीय भाषाई परं पराओं और िशयन के महत्व पर चचाय करते हुए भारतीय ज्ञान प्रणाली के भाषािैज्ञादनक पक्ष को रे खांदकत दकया।
काययक्रम का समापन आभार प्रिशयन के साि हुआ, दजसमें प्रज्ञानम् - IKS टीम: प्रो. रे खा निनीत, प्रो. मीना, प्रो. अल्का गगय, प्रो. िंिना लूिरा, िॉ. चंद्र दतिारी, िॉ. नीतू कु मारी, िॉ. मेघा शुक्ला, सुश्री बखाय िुबे,
श्री राजीि शुक्ला और िॉ. श्यामोदलमा जी. चौधरी - को उनके योगिान के दलए धन्यिाि दिया गया। संयोजक िॉ. अल्का माइकल और सह-संयोजक िॉ. अरुदणमा िास के मागयिशयन में यह काययक्रम भारतीय परं परागत ज्ञान को आधुदनक दशक्षा से जोडने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूणय किम दसि हुआ।
