PUBLIC NOTICE: It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of the final First Lady of Paris Joyce Ivy Grace Bawcutt (neé Wood-Gaines), the wife of the last Mayor of Paris Jack Bawcutt before amalgamating into the County of Brant.

The Bawcutt family has greatly enriched our community, and The County of Brant is proud to honour their legacy by restoring the original Town Hall now called the Bawcutt Centre. Their daughter Linda Schuyler and her husband donated the 1 million dollars for the purchase of the building.

We extend our deepest condolences to Mrs. Bawcutt’s family and express our gratitude for her tireless efforts in helping to shape and support our community. Her contributions will not be forgotten.

Read this Saturday's Paris Independent for the full write-up about this amazing woman and her family who will never be forgotten.

Joyce is survived by her four children; Linda Schuyler (Stephen Stohn), Tony Bawcutt (Tracy), Barb Graham (Rob), Michael Bawcutt (Lori Brook). She is beloved ‘Nana’ to Max, Erika, Carter, Patrick (Meghan), Christopher, Garrett (Amanda), Kyle (Jess), Matthew, Heather (Pat), and ‘Great Nana’ to Austin, Hannah (Jacob), Mason, Madison, Scarlett, Leighton and Willow.

Friends may call at the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, 184 Grand River St. N. Paris on Friday September 20, 2024 from 5-7 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at Paris Presbyterian Church on Saturday September 21, at 10:00AM with Rev. Joel Sherbino officiating.
Private Family interment Paris Cemetery.

Special Thanks to the team at Telfer Place who cared for Joyce so devotedly in her final year; and to the team at Stedman’s Hospice who offered final comfort.
Donations to Paris Presbyterian Church or the Bawcutt Centre (https://webforms.brant.ca/Finance/Donations) would be appreciated.
Online condolences and donations may be arranged through www.wmkippfuneralhome.com or by contacting Wm. Kipp 519 442 3061.

The Secret of Life 🐄💡

A farmer once told his children, when they were young:
“When you turn 12, I’ll reveal to each of you the secret of life."

When the eldest turned 12, he anxiously asked, “Okay dad what is the secret of life?"

His father replied:
“You must promise not to tell your siblings first”

“Okay, I promise” the boy said

“The secret of life is this: The cow does not give milk."

The boy, confused, asked, “What do you mean?”

“Exactly that,” the father said.
“The cow doesn’t just give milk. You have to get up very early, walk through the mud and manure, tie up the cow, sit down, and milk her. You have to do the work.”

👉 The cow doesn’t give milk. You either put in the effort, or you get nothing.

Today, many believe that things should just come to them with no effort. If they wish, they ask, and they receive. But life doesn’t work that way.
Happiness and success come from effort.
Lack of effort? It leads to frustration and entitlement.

It’s important to teach this lesson early:
🔑 Nothing in life is automatic.
🔑 You must work for what you want.

Share this with your children, your friends, and remind yourself:

**Cows don’t give milk. You have to work for it.**

---

What do you think?
Do you believe the secret of life is you will get out of life what you put into it? Let’s discuss below! 👇 Photo credit: Michelle Malvaso taken at The 166th Paris Fair

🚸📸 AS REPORTED IN SATURDAYS' PARIS INDEPENDENT 🚦🛑 In the County of Brant, road safety around our schools is a top priority. Keep an eye out for new road signs with the program starting in Ward 2 along Silver St (by North Ward School) to enhance safety for students and residents. If the program is successful it will be rolled out in more areas.

These state-of-the-art cameras will uphold speed limits, reducing the need for constant manual enforcement while ensuring round-the-clock compliance. 🚓✅

Starting this year, The County of Brant will inform the community about this program's initiation. The cameras will gather speed data, with ticketing slated to begin in the first quarter of 2025.

Let's work together to make our school zones and community safety areas safer and more pedestrian-friendly! 🚸🚦🏫

📚🚍 Attention, drivers in the County of Brant! It's back-to-school season, and it's crucial to keep our children safe. 🎒✨

would like to remind drivers that when you see a school bus with flashing amber lights, it's a signal that the bus driver is preparing to stop and pick up or drop off children. Remember, speeding up to avoid stopping is not only dangerous but also illegal. 🚫🚍

FIRST OFFENCE: Fines range from $400 to $2,000 and 6 demerit points. Each following offence: fines range from $1,000 to $,4000, 6 demerit points and possible jail time of up to 6 months!

It's essential to understand the gravity of failing to stop when the bus's red lights are flashing. The consequences can be severe, including serious penalties and, worst of all, the potential for injury or even loss of life. ⚠️❌

Let's prioritize the safety of our children over saving a minute or two of travel time. Their well-being is worth more than any fleeting convenience. 🕛👫

Take these important steps to ensure the safety of our young students:
🚸 Slow down and be prepared to stop when you see a school bus with flashing amber lights.
🛑 Always come to a complete stop when the bus's red lights are flashing and the stop sign is extended.
🚧 Observe and respect the rules of the road to protect our children.

Together, let's create a safe and secure environment for our students as they embark on a new school year. 🎓🚌

- September 1, 1980 - near Thunder Bay, ON

As Terry ran through intense pain, hundreds of supporters gathered along the highway cheering him on, saying, "Keep going, you can do it!" and "We're all behind you." Refusing to let anyone down, he took a break hoping the pain might subside. Terry ran another mile until he couldn't see any more people, returned to the van, and asked Doug to take him to a hospital. Terry called his parents in Port Coquitlam and told them the cancer had returned. The following day he flew home to begin further treatments. Terry had run his last mile of the Marathon of Hope.

The day he stopped was the day we started. Continue Terry's dream of a world without cancer by joining the on September 15. Register, fundraise, and donate today: https://run.terryfox.ca/56006
