The Saudi authorities have announced that this year's Hajj will take place.

In a statement by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the annual pilgrimage will hold amid safety and security measures to preserve the lives of the pilgtims.

It states that health institutions in the Kingdom are assessing the situation and will make a pronouncement on the modalities for the exercise.

The statement however does not indicate whether pilgrims from outside the Kingdom will be accommodated.

Last year, only 1,000 pilgrims resident in Saudi Arabia were allowed to perform the Hajj due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, Alhaji Zikrullah Olakunle Hassan, has reiterated the commission’s commitment to continue working with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Hajj matters.

Alhaji Zikrullah Olakunle Hassan, made this known at a send-off in honour of the Nigerian Consul-general designate to Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Mansur Abdulkarim.

He solicited the support of Nigerian Consulate in Jeddah to facilitate the resumption of NAHCON desk officers at the Consulate, and also appealed that the cheque endorsed by Saudi Government for the victims of the crane accident at the Grand Mosque in Makkah in 2015 is processed for the families to get their money.

Responding, the Consul-General designate, Ambassador Mansur Abdukarim thanked NAHCON for the gesture and promised to look into the request by the Commission.

Highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of a gift to the Consul-General designate.
