Hello! Synthetic Sun is still moving along nicely. Focusing on making assets right now to make the world as big and as beautiful as possible. It's still on course, but I've decided to start work on a /smaller/ game first just to prove that I /can/ do this.

I'll announce the new game soonish, but I just wanted to make two quick points. This game is going to be a free download on itch.io. Also, as a tease, here's the game's palette. Should be easy to figure out what style I'm going for!

Phantasy Star inspired overhead sprite for Alice. PSIV sprites are about 27 pixels tall, but due to increased resolution in RPG Maker MV, character sprites will be about 40 pixels tall.

I always loved the more "realistic" proportions of the character sprites in Phantasy Star and wished more games did something similar back in the days.

Anyway, Alice is done, now it's time to do the other seven party members! ☀☀☀☀

I'm happy to announce that our first game will officially be called SYNTHETIC SUN. Progression is moving ahead at a steady pace, but I have no idea when the game will be out.

I'm using RPG Maker MV as the backbone of the project, but I intend on using all original assets to give the game a unique feeling. I've got an artist - alonelyspirit - creating official character art for the game. I'm writing the soundtrack myself. I'm still looking for artists to do in game sprites and tilesets.

It's really coming together and I could not be any happier.

In the mean time, if you would like to support our endeavour to make the game as original as possible, why not grab the new promotional mini album? It's only £1 on Bandcamp, but you can pay more if you want. All sales will go towards building the game. Hi all!

I'm hoping to have a few updates every week to show where we are getting. Some updates might be a bit leaner than others due to being so early in development, but hey, things are already proceeding nicely.

So far I've recorded seven pieces of music from the game. I've been using the RYM2612 FM synth VST to compose the bulk of the music, but I am also using Midi Guitar 2 to translate electric guitar into thick and choppy FM sounds.

The soundtrack is going to be mostly FM synth heavy due to the inspiration I've gotten from Phantasy Star I, II, and IV, but I'll be adding some different sounds here and there as well to give the OST some surprises.
