US President Donald Trump has issued multiple executive orders aimed at restructuring the US military.

One directive signed late Monday prohibits diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) projects in the military. It will prohibit the use of racial or gender preferences in the armed services, the Defense Department, and the Homeland Security Department.

Another reinstates more than 8,000 service members who were discharged for refusing to receive the Covid-19 vaccination.

The White House also stated that a third executive order directs officials to develop a policy on transgender military. The action does not instantly prohibit transgender service personnel.

US President Donald Trump has dubbed the success of Chinese startup DeepSeek "a wake-up call" for the US IT industry, following the release of its artificial intelligence (AI) model, which sent shockwaves across Wall Street.

Shares in key technology companies like Nvidia plunged substantially, with the chip manufacturer shedding about $600 billion (£482 billion) in market value.

DeepSeek's assertion that its R1 model was developed at a fraction of the expense of its competitors has shook the industry, raising concerns about the future of America's AI dominance and the magnitude of investments that US corporations are planned.

Donald Trump accuses Vladimir Putin of 'destroying' Russia by refusing the Ukraine deal.

US President Donald Trump claimed Monday that Vladimir Putin is "destroying Russia" by refusing to reach an agreement to stop the conflict with Ukraine.

US President Donald Trump claimed Monday that Vladimir Putin is "destroying Russia" by refusing to reach an agreement to stop the conflict with Ukraine.

"He should strike a bargain. "I think he's destroying Russia by not making a deal," Trump told reporters upon his return to the Oval Office.

"I think Russia's going to be in big trouble."

Trump's statements represent an uncharacteristically hostile posture toward Putin, whom he has previously admired.

Trump also stated that he was prepared to meet Putin. A summit between the two during his first term acquired prominence when the US president appeared to trust the Russian leader's word over that of US intelligence.

"I got along with him great, I would hope he wants to make a deal," Mr. Trump stated.

"He can't be happy he's not doing well. I mean, he's grinding it out, but most people expected the war to be finished in about a week, and you're now three years in, right?" Trump stated.

He said that the Russian economy was suffering, particularly from inflation.

Trump also stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had informed him that he desired a peace treaty to end the conflict, which began when Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

"Zelensky wants to make a deal," added Trump, who has previously insulted Ukraine's leader.

During his campaign, Trump promised to rapidly end the Ukraine war, with his advisers considering using US aid to force Kyiv to make concessions.

Trump issued a series of executive orders on Day 1. What are his priorities?

On Day 1, President Donald Trump began the predicted frenzy of executive action.

With his first batch of memoranda and executive orders, Trump reversed scores of former President Joe Biden's measures, launched his immigration crackdown, pulled the United States from the Paris climate agreements, and attempted to keep TikTok open in the United States, among other things. He pardoned hundreds of people for their involvement in the January 6, 2021, attack on the United States Capitol.

Here's a look at some of Trump's first actions and future plans:

Pardons for the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol
As Congress reconvened to recognize Biden's 2020 triumph over Trump, the president issued pardons late Monday for over 1,500 people convicted or criminally charged in the Jan. 6 attack on the United States Capitol.

Separately, Trump ordered the end of federal cases against "political opponents" of the Biden administration, which translates to Trump supporters. He promised Monday to prevent the "weaponization" of federal law enforcement, but his actions appeared to benefit solely his supporters.

The Economy and TikTok
On Monday evening, in a made-for-TV event at Capital One Arena, Trump signed a mainly symbolic decree urging all federal agencies to combat consumer inflation. Trump is lowering regulatory barriers on oil and natural gas production by reversing Biden moves and enacting his own orders, which he promises would lower consumer goods prices. Trump is aggressively targeting Alaska to increase fossil fuel output.

On trade, the president stated that he intends to put 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico beginning February 1, but failed to elaborate on his plans to tax Chinese imports.

Trump also signed an order to temporarily halt Congress' TikTok ban for 75 days, during which time the administration intends to seek a U.S. buyer in an agreement that will preserve national security concerns while keeping the popular social media platform accessible to Americans.

America First.
As he did during his first administration, Trump is withdrawing the United States from the World Health Organization. He also directed a thorough assessment of US foreign aid spending. Both moves align with his more isolationist "America First" approach to foreign affairs.

In other symbolic gestures, Trump intended to sign an executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. The highest mountain in North America, currently known as Denali, will revert to its original name, Mount McKinley, before President Barack Obama renamed it. And Trump issued an order requiring flags to be at full height on all future Inauguration Days. The directive occurred after former President Jimmy Carter died, prompting flags to be flown at half-staff. Trump insisted that they be moved up to Monday. Another Trump directive aims to promote "Beautiful Federal Civic Architecture."

Immigration and National Security
Trump rescinded many immigration orders issued under Biden's presidency, including one that limited deportation priorities to persons who committed major crimes, were deemed national security concerns, or were apprehended at the border. It restores the administration to Trump's first-term policy of prioritizing deportation for everyone in the country illegally.

The president proclaimed a national emergency at the US-Mexico border, and he intends to send US troops to assist immigration authorities while restricting refugees and asylum seekers.

Trump is attempting to remove birthright citizenship. It is uncertain, however, if his decree would withstand the inevitable legal challenges, as birthright citizenship is guaranteed by the United States Constitution.

He has temporarily paused the US Refugee Admission Program, pending a review of its "public safety and national security" ramifications. He has also promised to reinstate a policy that compelled asylum applicants to wait over the border in Mexico, although officials have not stated whether Mexico will take migrants again. Trump is also discontinuing the CBP One program, a Biden-era border tool that granted legal admission to over a million migrants.

Meanwhile, on national security, the president revoked active security clearances from a long list of his perceived enemies, including former national intelligence director James Clapper, former CIA director and defense secretary Leon Panetta, and his own former national security adviser, John Bolton.

Climate and Energy
As expected, Trump signed documents that he claims would legally withdraw the United States from the Paris climate agreement. He made a similar action during his first term, but Biden overturned it.

Trump also declared an energy emergency, promising to "drill, baby, drill," and vowed to repeal what he called Biden's electric vehicle mandate.

Reforming federal bureaucracy
Trump has banned federal government employment, with the exception of the military and other unnamed agencies. He also imposed a moratorium on new federal rules while establishing his second administration.

He formally established the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, which is headed by Elon Musk, the world's richest man. DOGE, while ostensibly an endeavor to streamline government, is not an actual agency. However, Trump appears to be giving Musk broad authority to recommend changes to federal services and spending.

Diversity, equity, inclusion, and transgender rights.
Trump is rescinding transgender rights and eliminating federal diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Both represent significant shifts in federal policy and are consistent with Trump's campaign promises. One decree states that the federal government will only recognize two unchangeable s*xes: male and female. According to the impending ruling, they will be classified based on whether people are born with eggs or s***m, rather than chromosomes. The directive requires federal jails and shelters for migrants and r**e victims to be segregated by s*x. Furthermore, federal taxpayer dollars may not be utilized to subsidize "transition services."

A separate order suspends DEI programs, requiring the White House to locate and terminate them throughout the government.
