Do you remember the first time you used a miter saw? I do. It was 7 years ago today. I attended a workshop at my local where we learned how to make a vertical succulent planter. I was so excited about using the miter saw that I asked the instructor to take a picture of me. I think that’s when my love for power tools was born. I bought my first miter saw a few weeks later, and haven’t looked back since.

An unplanned Part 2 of “How much would you have paid for this haul?” After making the first purchase, I knew that the opportunity to acquire these tools at the prices I paid for them would likely never present itself again. So I did some budget crunching and went back for round 2. 🫣 I mean who needs groceries anyway? 😅

Just wrapped up an amazing week at with the super talented learning how to make the stunning Morley barstool! Always a great time at MASW learning new skills and making new friends! I fell in love with the design of this barstool and decided I wanted to have a trio of them at the kitchen counter in my new house. I chose Sapele for the first barstool, and numbers two and three are already in progress and will be made from Cherry and Maple. Can’t wait to finish them soon, but for now, they are going into a hopefully short stint in because your girl still needs to pack and move. 😅

Is a thing? If not, let’s make it one! Here’s a before and during of this Stanley Bailey No 3 plane. So far, I’ve disassembled it and washed it in soap and water to remove the first, dust, and grime. I then soaked the parts overnight in evaporust. After removing them from the evaporust, I rinsed and dried them thoroughly. For good measure, I let them sit for about 20 mins in the oven at low temperature to make sure all the crevices were completely dried. Since I’m not ready to continue with the next steps of restoring this plane right now, I went ahead and applied a coat of Boeshield t-9 to protect it from rust until I’m ready to continue with the restoration.

May for Makers Day 3: What’s the method to my madness? Plot twist: there isn’t one! 😂 I try to go where my curiosity takes me. If where/whatever that is isn’t jotted down somewhere in my notebook or on my phone, it’s probably not going to happen. 😂

Hi! There are some new folks around here, and it also happens to be day 1 of hosted by . So let’s . My name is Annette and I live in Cincinnati. I’m a self-proclaimed “Jill of all trades” who dabbles in everything from wood, leather, resin, metal, home DIY/decor, furniture refurbishing, tool restoration, and more. My true area of expertise is starting new projects and then relegating them to what I fondly refer to as project purgatory. 😂 I got started in when I decided about 6 years ago that I could probably build raised beds for a garden instead of buying them. My future plans include moving into a larger garage shop later this year. Drop a question in the comments below with anything else you’d like to know about me and my journey as a maker.

What’s one thing you would improve about your workspace/workshop if you could? I’m taking notes for things I want to do/setup differently when I move to my new place hopefully later this year! First thing that will be different in my new shop is the floors!

Not too messy, but could be tidier.
- Saying goodbye to my trusty dust collector setup this week! 🥲
- The epoxy round table is still incomplete. I took the googly eyes off because I was tired of their judgement. 😂
- My friends at Lee Valley are feeding my hobby habit with this sweet pack of carving supplies!
- Peep a few of my stuck in purgatory projects cluttering up the shop while I proceed to start something completely new this week. 🤣🤷🏾‍♀️
- Picked up a slab of boxelder and a small slab of mystery wood this weekend.

What’s going on in your workspace this weekend?

to when I made my current table saw outfeed table. Time to switch it up! It’ll still be basic 2x4 legs with a plywood or MDF top. But since I decided to move the CNC to the basement, it doesn’t need to be this large anymore. This’ll give me a chance to add in a few features, and also gain some additional storage space under it. What’s your must-have outfeed/assembly table feature?

My first Workbenchcon experience has come to an end. Meeting so many of the talented makers whom I’ve gotten to know over the past couple of years here on IG was amazing and absolutely did not disappoint! I didn’t do a great job of taking pictures and videos throughout the event, but I’m telling myself that’s a good thing if it means I was more present in each moment! Safe travels home everyone! Looking forward to Makers Camp already!
