It was fascinating to hear how she made the journey from somewhat shy, mostly broke high school student to accomplished, confident casting director, and to hear how her values played into that. It was also a joy to catch up with someone from 'the good ole days'!

Joseph Vangieri is a serial entrepreneur, music industry maven and an early aficionado of applying AI to the business of music.

I first became aware of Joe through his wife Cathy - also entrepreneurially minded, and a Knoxville-based educator, editor and publicist who has created a children’s app and original content - for which my then 4-year old daughter was a test user!

Joe does not have a boring trajectory, nor one that rests on a massive stack of academic credentials. He's forged his own path.

Most of us don't actively reflect on our values and goals very often.

I've found that stepping through that exercise can be really valuable, particularly if a long period of time has gone by since you've done it or if you've gone through major life changes.

You may find that you're not really spending your time any more in a way that's aligned with those values, and that can be that hidden source of angst, of anxiety, of stress that you might be feeling inside.

And if you can identify that, you can act on it.

The Kid Who Drew, 32 Years In An Attic, Giving Back, Finding a Rhythm

Danny Wilson is a Knoxville-based illustrator I became aware of as a senior in high school when a friend’s family business hired him to do some book covers. I was in awe of the cover illustration and inquired about it, and was thrilled to discover it was done by a local. To high school me, it was a chance to reach out and talk to a real, working commercial artist at a time when I was debating what to do with my life.

Danny is incredibly talented, wise, and humble – and he actively gives of his time and expertise to young artists and aspiring creatives of all ages. It was a blast catching up with him and hearing about his personal road to the role of seasoned illustrator. Definitely lots to dig into here. Enjoy!

For this show, being number 10 as well as being the threshold I’d set for myself as a goal before moving forward with adding the show to the various podcast outlets, I wanted to do something different. Casting about for ideas on who to have on the show it occurred to me I was being a bit selfish… Always asking questions of guests but never opening up myself, sharing about my own past history with work, values and goals.

So I approached my guest from the very first episode, the indomitable Shane Murphy, with the concept that perhaps he could interview ME instead of me having someone else on the show. He agreed, with the caveat that he be free to deviate from the high level script and probe as needed. I agreed, and we were off to the races. Hope you enjoy!

Missing Fairness, Staying the Course, Need For Control

Unlike most of our guests, Russ didn’t have a winding career path – he was fortunate to have found his niche early on and has stuck with it through several boom & bust cycles, in both self-employed and employee modes.

His specialty and preference is helping first time home buyers, so I really appreciated his insights on the housing market these days (and how unfair it is to those first time buyers).
