New Updates: Media sources report that flooding continues to impact multiple areas of northern and central Nigeria. Updated reports indicate that the areas of Sokoto State include Sokoto North, Sokoto South, Wamakko, Silame, Wurno, Isa and Sabon Birni. There have been no immediate reports of casualties in these areas, but a large amount of farmland and produce has been damaged by the flooding. Previous Updates: Flooding has cut access between the villages of Binji and Silame in Sokoto State. The only road connecting the two villages was washed away. Recent flooding has killed at least 32 people in Kebbi State. This brings the total death toll from flooding in the region to 72. Thousands of people have also been displaced across Kebbi and at least five different bridges have been washed away across the state. Three people in Kaduna state were killed and another two people in Ketu, Lagos State, went missing over the weekend. The Nigerian government has raised the flooding alert as a result of a high risk of severe flooding throughout the northern and central regions of Nigeria. The areas with the highest risk are Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Anambra, Edo, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa. The areas currently most affected by flooding are Bauchi, Kebbi, Nasarawa, and Jigawa. The coming flooding is expected to take place during September and October, expect severe disruptions to local infrastructure. The death toll from flooding in Bauchi State has risen to 16, with at least 3,042 houses destroyed. The death toll in Jigawa remains at 21. Over 51,000 dwellings have been destroyed in 17 local government areas of Jigawa, with at least 100,000 people displaced throughout multiple regions. Emergency services are currently conducting search and rescue operations. Associated disruptions should be expected in the affected areas.
