*Snow cricket in Kashmir's Gurez catches eyes of Int'l cricketers*

*Famous celebrities desire to play cricket over frozen track*

Sajid Raina

Bandipora, Jan 20 (KNO): After witnessing huge tourist flow in summers for the first time, the Gurez Valley in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district is yet again attracting the people from outside Jammu and Kashmir as some video clips have went viral on the social media platforms, in which the youth from the locality could be seen playing cricket over snow.

As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the video clips as well as the photographs of the cricket over snow in Gurez have even caught the eyes of the international cricket players.

The photographs and videos of snow cricket played on the frozen track at snow bound Gurez valley, which is cut-off since December following the snowfall and is likely to remain disconnected for a few more months, are presently viral on social media and are attracting attention of celebrities all over the world.

An Australian batting star, Marnus Labuschagne, who plays internationally for the Australian national team and domestically for Queensland also shared the video of young boys playing cricket over snow at Bagtore with a caption “how good is this”.

Fakhar-e-Alam, a famous Pakistani actor, TV host and a singer also shared the video of the cricket match played on a frozen track in Bandipora's Gurez valley and wrote: “I wanna play cricket here with these guys....this looks so much fun..”

However, the locals from Gurez after witnessing such a response from the people on the social media platforms, hoped that the local youngsters would get support from the BCCI and other international players.

“Hope will support our younsters to perform on national and international level Gurez valley is full of talent needs little bit support from administration and Govt I assure starts will come from Gurez valley,” a local from Gurez wrote on Twitter.

As already reported by KNO, people of Gurez, living in the border area organized snow cricket tournaments on the frozen snow ground in a bid to promote tourism during winters in Gurez and attract the attention of the administration.

The youngsters of three villages including Markoot, Achoora and Bagtore in the border valley of Gurez, have organized three snow cricket tournaments on the snowclad ground.

According to locals, the only aim behind organising these tournaments is to attract the government's attention to this area as there is a lot of potential for winter sports activities in Gurez—(KNO)

*Kashmir: Little girl turns reporter to show bad condition of roads; video goes viral*

Srinagar, Jan 10: An undated video of a little girl from Kashmir who turned reporter to show the bad condition of lanes and bylanes has created a storm on the internet, with netizens complimenting her for her coverage.

Dressed in a pink jacket, the girl, whose name as well as the place where she was shooting the video could not be immediately confirmed, is complaining that guests cannot come to her place because of the bad road condition. ''Itni gandi road hai ki mehman bhi nahi aa sakte (the road is so bad that guests also cannot come),'' the girl said while directing her camera person, whom she refers to as ''mom'', to show the pot holes, reported PTI

The Kashmir valley recently witnessed heavy snow and rain.

Narrating how mud and rains have made the condition worse, the girl walked on a road showing the potholes in a 2.08 minute video apparently shot on a mobile phone.

The girl showed how people were also dumping garbage on roads and shouted ''sab gandha ho gaya hai (the neighbourhood has become dirty)''. The enthusiastic little reporter also asks viewers to ''like, share and subscribe'' and promises to meet them in the next video.

The video has been shared by many Twitter users and has been viewed over one lakh times. This is not the first time that a child from the valley has appealed to authorities through video messages.

Last year, a 71-second video addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by six-year-old Mahiru Irfan, seeking a cap on duration of online classes, had propelled the girl from Kashmir to overnight media stardom as camera crews made a beeline at her residence for a soundbyte.

The video had caught the attention of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who directed the School Education Department to come out with a policy in 48 hours to ease the burden of homework on the school students.–(PTI)

Government afraid of struggle carried out by PDP for people of J&K: Mehbooba M***i

Says PDP will continue this struggle and fight against all odds

Srinagar, Jan 10 : Peoples Democratic Party president, Mehbooba M***i on Monday said that the government is afraid of the struggle carried out by her party for the people of J&K and that is why Covid SOPs are meant for her party only.

As per talking to reporters at the party office in Srinagar, M***i said that Coovid-19 protocols are only to be followed at the time of rallies and conventions organized by the PDP and not at the time of other political parties.

"COVID comes only when PDP leaders and workers visit for Fateh Khwani at their deceased leader's graveyard. Maybe administration is scared with our party as PDP always stands with the truth. PDP is struggling for a particular cause and the government is afraid of that struggle," she said.

She also said that election agenda of the BJP is based on dividing Hindus and Muslims of the country, while the party has nothing to offer on developmental front and other issues.

"They only have one agenda in their hands which is rioting between Hindus and Muslims of the country. They only want to break the harmony between the two communities and they are attacking the age-old communal harmony of the nation only for elections," she added.

Meanwhile, welcoming the new entrants into the party fold, Mehbooba said that she is happy that new entrants have joined the PDP with a passion of doing something good for the Jammu and Kashmir. "It is not easy for anyone to join the PDP in these uncertain times for the party. But when youth come forward to join us then it generates a new hope for the party."

She said that the party will continue this struggle until all motives get fulfilled and they will fight against all odds.

*Jammu-Srinagar NH reopens for traffic after three days closure*

Banihal/Jammu, Jan 10: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was reopened for traffic on Monday after remaining closed for the past three days owing to heavy snowfall and multiple landslides in Ramban district, officials said.

Senior Superintendent of Police, traffic-national highway, Shabir Ahmad Malik said the traffic from both the twin capital cities was allowed after the arterial road was cleared of fresh landslides at Panthiyal and Maroog by road clearance agencies.

“The clearance of debris at certain places was still going on to ensure smooth movement of traffic,” the officer told PTI.

The highway, the only all weather road linking Kashmir with rest of the country, was closed for traffic on Friday afternoon, shortly after it was opened after two-day closure following heavy snowfall and multiple landslides between Chanderkote and Ramsu.

Over 50 passenger vehicles were left stranded at different places by the closure of the highway. They were allowed to move towards their destinations late Sunday evening after authorities speeded up the road clearance operation with improvement in weather conditions.

The officials said the traffic was allowed from Jammu to Srinagar early Monday morning, while the movement of traffic from Srinagar to Jammu was allowed only after 11 am.

The traffic was briefly halted at Nagrota in Jammu and Jakhani in Udhampur in the wake of the fresh landslides which were swiftly cleared by road clearance agencies, paving way for resumption of traffic, the officials said.

They said the movement of traffic at landslide-hit areas is very slow as the road is narrow and only worthy of one-way traffic.

The clearance operation is on and is likely to be completed within the next few hours, the officials said.–(PTI)

Suo-moto cognizance:
Two security guards arrested after Kupwara family loses infant

Srinagar, Jan 8 : Taking suo-moto cognizance after the death of an infant at maternity hospital Lal Ded here in Kashmir capital Srinagar, Police on Saturday arrested two female private security guards.

The accused security guards had allegedly stopped a family from North Kashmir’s Kupwara district carrying an ailing infant from meeting a doctor at neonate ward of the hospital seeking bribe (chai-pani) from them.

The incident occurred four days ago in the hospital.

Police today took the suo-moto cognizance and arrested both the female security guards.

Confirming the incident, SHO Police Station, Raj Bagh, Muhammad Ishaq told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a family from Kupwara district carrying an ailing infant was supposed to consult a doctor inside the neonate ward of the hospital when two female security guards stopped them seeking ‘nazrana’ (bribe). “The family offered whatever was possible but the greedy guards demanded more and more, thus causing unnecessary delay that led to the death of the infant,” Station House Officer, Muhammad Ishaq said.

“Both the female security guards have been arrested and an FIR vide number 01/2022 under section 304 stands registered against them,” he said.

Pertinently, the practice of ‘chai-pani’-a word for corruption is prevalent at the LD Hospital. Since it is a maternity hospital where women give birth to new born, some employees find it convenient to force family members to grease their palms.

As per attendants a newborn is not handed over to the family until they pay. KNT
