🇦🇺 Growing up and people making fun of you because you didn't pronounce a word correctly. You are called a "pocho" which was a derogatory term, like an insult. Hopefully we are more aware these days.

🇲🇽 Crecer y que la gente se burle de ti porque no pronunciaste una palabra correctamente. Luego te llaman "pocho" que era un término despectivo, como un insulto. Espero que estemos más conscientes hoy en día.

Hey guys! It's and I thought I would introduce myself!

I'm Erika Deery and in 2014, I wrote a children's book about a girl that goes to space. Then I decided to make it bilingual so it could be a resource to help families get the most out of

Fast forward a few years, and I created this podcast so bilingual authors like me could share their creations. I also created this podcast as it can be overwhelming for parents, carers and teachers to discover new books.

Here are a few things about me:
⭐ I grew up in Guadalajara, Mexico and when I arrived in Melbourne I did folkloric dance as a way to keep connected to my country.
⭐ I never thought writer was something I could become, and I have now published 5 picture books
⭐ I almost didn't move to Australia because a spider bit my leg. I was in hospital for 9 days and I questioned whether that was a sign that I had to stay. Luckily I didn't.
⭐ I love 💜 I feel like this is a city where you can come and reinvent yourself.
⭐ I need a coffee to start the day!
⭐ My favourite book is The Giver by Lois Lowry. This was the first book that I genuinely couldn't put down.
