I just accepted a position on the editorial board at Sundress Publications and so I will no longer have as much time to dedicate to MLU. While I love this site, my interest has been waning as of late and I’m eager to start out on a new adventure. I am not shutting MLU down but it is no longer a priority. I will write reviews here and there as I am inspired to do so. Local and DIY bands are still invited to send their music, but I might not get around to it. If you have already sent me something and I haven’t gotten back to you, I apologize but I probably will not get around to it. Thank you for all your support over the past few years.

The new Spoon album is great, but I'm not sure if it's the best album they ever made, which has been reported (I think by The Gaurdian?). The new Jack White song sounds like Queens of the Stone Age but with better solos and probably the most aggressive theremin I have ever heard.
I'm going to try to write a review of a DIY band tomorrow. Sorry things slowed down. I've been focused on other writing.

Much like Laura Fisher's other 2021 release, APOPHENIA, her new EP is difficult to pin down. Elusive, sinuous, and ever shifting, it's a wondrous sonic snow globe that leaves the listener unsure whether they're inside or outside of the glass. And we're back. Finally. After a long hiatus that consisted of me finishing my thesis and then sitting in my room and drinking for a month or so while little cartoon whiffs of smoke slowly emanated from my head. Now that I'm burned out with being burned out, I'm ready to start writing about some music again. I'm currently downing some whiskey highballs and watching some JHS Show, to get hyped and write about some Philly music.

So, I think we will be ending Live on the Ides being as live shows are mostly back. If you want us to continue, let us know. Either way, there is no live stream this month but there is an awesome shoe at Harpers on the 14th featuring Ada, Brandon, and Austin, all of whom have been a part of the MLU journey (and if I left anybody out, I apologize-- I'm bad with names and don't really know everyone involved in Mirrorsigns and Mandrax). But it'll be a good time, so come on out! I know we are unintentionally competing with the Lo Priestess show and they're awesome so if you can't see us, see them!!
My Little Underground is officially on hiatus while I finish my thesis. For all of you waiting for reviews, I apologize. I have a folder full of submissions and I will dive into it as soon as I am able. Thank you for your patience and support.

Sentimentalism employs layers of rhythms and melodies, punctuated by brilliant arrangement, coalescing in one of the best hip-hop albums I've heard in a while. And I'm sure it's difficult to take me seriously, being as I've admitted to knowing RayRayBeats, but I'm completely serious. The use of melody and arrangement compliments the flow of RayRayBeats' lyrics so deftly, that it never sounds as if someone is rapping over a track. No, it sounds full and complete. Every piece in its right place. Everything functions together in such a complete and satisfying way that I guarantee a non-English speaker could enjoy this album for the sound alone.
So, I should open with a disclaimer of sorts. I know RayRayBeats and have worked with him on some projects. I don't believe any have seen the light of day, but we did work together.
